Benefits of Air Purifiers for New Born Babies

Author: George Sandler

Are you a new parent? If not, are you expecting to become on in the future? If this is so when that moment comes, your life will literally change for ever and ever.

Like many mothers and fathers, there’s a reasonable chance that you would do pretty much anything to promise the health and safety of your new baby.

When doing this, were you aware what an air purifier can do for you and also your child? There is a reasonable probability that you’ve heard of air purifiers before. If you’ve not, they are machines, which are electronic. The aim of these machines is to help clean the air within. This is generally done with filters and collection grids.

These filters and collection grids have an inclination to trap bacteria and air particles, stopping them from circulating around in your house. Naturally, clean air is vital for all, however it is particularly crucial for babies. That is’s the reason why it’s really important that you do everything in your power to keep the air in your house, or at a minimum the air within your child’s room clean and pure.

If you’re a smoker or a pet owner, the most suitable option could be to quit smoking or lose your pets, but if that isn’t a choice an air purifier may do.

When it comes to buying an air purifier, particularly if you need it to have benefits to your kid, you’ve got a assortment of different options. Air purifiers tend to come in 2 main styles. Individual room air purifiers have a propensity to wash the air in a specific quantity of space, sometimes anywhere from 2 hundred to 5 hundred sq. Feet. Dependent on the dimensions of the room in query, certain air purifiers could be able to wash the air inside one or 2 rooms. As you will presume, whole house air purifiers are air purifiers that clean the air within a total house. This is done when the air purifier is hooked up to a home’s cooling and heating system.

When doing this, you will be wanting to keep a substantial number of things under consideration. Perhaps, the most imperative thing to bear in mind is the general cost of owning an air purifier. A considerable number of air purifiers are filter-less, but only some of them are ; basically most need a filter. In numerous cases, you will find that these filters need to be replaced, once in a while. It is critical that you check the cost of all spare parts, including the filters. It is the only possible way to make certain that you’re actually getting a fair deal.

As well as checking the final price of an air purifier, you’ll also need to check your uses. If you would just like to have the air in your child’s room be clean and fresh, you’ll be able to purchase just about any air purifier that is’s now on the market. What you are depending on using your air purifier for is important ; it’s the key to meaking your purchase worth it.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Is it easy to install baby safety gates?
I am moving into a house at the end of the month and it has 2 stairwells. So I would need to install 4 baby safety gates for my 15 month old’s protection. Are they easy to install or should I get someone to do it?

    • ANSWER:
It’s not difficult at all for a DIY, with even the most modest tools. The issue might extend a bit farther however. In your case spend for the best. Certainly dollar amounts should never be equated to child safety. While I have installed some for other than family members; it is a MAJOR liability issue. Certainly as a DIY your concerns are as valid; but in your case also is it valid for a contractor to not strictly want to take on the safety of YOUR child…after the fact; and possibly for years.

Instructions are pretty clear with any quality product; and should be followed. Not only do you want the gate secured in a locking system; TOP AND BOTTOM; but also one with some fabrication that disallows climbing over; and/.or secured protrusions; etc.

A tenacious child will continue to seek out ways to overcome a gate; and obviously any child young enough to NOT GET IT; should be pretty constantly monitored anyway.

Preparation for a New Baby: Baby Proofing

Author: April Walters

When you’re expecting an addition to your household, it’s a stressful but exciting time. Pregnancy can be draining and you’ll have a ton of things to do, but you won’t be as busy as you’ll be after the birth. This is why it’s necessary to make the time to get your residence prepared for the baby. With careful preparation, you can make things much easier for yourself later.

Getting ready for a baby doesn’t only mean getting the nursery ready; it can mean rethinking the entire plan of your abode. Before you know it, your baby will be crawling, so you’ll need to make sure that possible problems are taken care of. This means putting up gates, putting plugs into electrical sockets, fixing unstable furniture that a child might pull over and making sure things small enough to be swallowed are at least three feet above the ground. It’s also a good idea to raise the height of electronic equipment, which your baby might break by pushing buttons or pulling cords. Insure that all cables are out of sight and, ideally, secured to the wall with strong clips.

If your residence has radiators that get very hot, block them off so that your baby can’t get to them. Avoid having rugs on slick surfaces where they could cause accidents. When you’re finished with those tasks, give your whole house a thorough cleaning. Your child won’t just put things in her mouth; she will more often than not have her face and open mouth on the furniture and the floor, so you’ll want to reduce the associated risks.

If you’re planning to let the baby sleep in your room for awhile, it is a good idea to go ahead and prepare the baby’s room ahead of time anyway. If possible, avoid having older children share a room with a baby. Many parents traditionally choose soft pastels in the nursery, but pediatric research has shown that colors with strong contrasts can add to the developments of your baby’s eyes and their visual processing skills. Geometric shapes are a great option, as are cheery and pleasant looking animal and human faces, which can be a source of comfort to a baby.

Although you certainly can provide the new baby with a room that has plenty of lighting, you’ll also want to insure that the room is dark as well. It is important for the baby’s eye development to have some darkness, so make sure you steer clear of glowing decorations until the baby is older.

Most new parents get gifts of clothes and toys from friends and family. There are additional things that you will need as well. You’ll need a suitable bed, a crib, a dresser, and a toy box. A changing table is a giant help also. Also consider adding a comfortable chair or glider so you will have a spot to sit and comfort baby.

All this might sound like a lot of work, but a little time now can save a lot of trouble in the future. Preparing is a great way to enjoy looking forward to your new arrival.

  1. QUESTION:
    about baby proofing…?
I can’t seem to find anything that works for my drawers just those cupboard locks and it seems i need something different for the drawers that pullout. Also I went around plugging all the outlets not in use, but what is there for the cords that are plugged in?? Plus we have nightlights all over the apartment. Please help if you have any suggestions on all together basic baby proofing. I’m gonna lock the fridge, stove, dishwasher and medicine cabinets. If I’m missing anything please let me know. Most are furniture is soft so that’s one thing I can skip, plus we have a playard circle gate we can use that a lot!

    • ANSWER:

      GOod luck!

  2. QUESTION:
    How to baby-proof the computer?
I’m working on baby-proofing, and can’t figure out what to do about the computer area. The tower is on a low shelf (a couple inches off the floor) under the desk. How do I stabilize it? And what about the mess of wires? Plus, I have a flat-screen monitor. How can I anchor it?
    I appreciate any advice!
And please don’t say I just need to watch my child closely instead of baby-proof. I am an attentive, loving, and safe parent, but I don’t want to take any chances and plan on baby-proofing anything that can cause serious injury to my son.
    Thanks! :)

  3. QUESTION:
    Scared of the baby?
I am 28w 3d pregnant with my first. I don’t know who the father is because it was a sperm donar. I have wanted a child since I was so young. I am 24 and live in Maine, while the rest of my family lives in New Mexico where I used to live until I moved for work.

The only friends I have are single, go to clubs every weekend, and don’t have kids. I am ready for the baby, the nursery is all set, I have baby proofed everything and I have been going to every parenting/birthing class that there is and everything else!

However I just feel like I am juggling everything ontop of being pregnant. Plus I don’t have any names for my lil girl. Please help me! I can’t wait to hold my little girl, I am just worried about raising her on my own with my mother on the other side of the country. By the way my name is Sadie and my last name is Hanson. I don’t know what her first or middle name will be.

    Thanks in advance!
Please don’t tell me that I chose to get pregnant so I should have thought about how I was going to raise a baby on my own. I did think about that, but now I am just getting cold feet kind of.

    • ANSWER:
My 5 year olds name is Sadie Grace, I love your name. As for your cold feet it is perfectly normal, it is very scary raising kids nowadays, but you obviously care so you are already doing better then some. but listen you can get in touch with local play groups to meet moms, or just hang out in parks with playgrounds, moms will flock to you. It is very important for your sanity to have a support group with children so you can go to them when you need an understanding ear. My advice to you is to make sure no matter how busy you are to make time every single day to sit on the floor and play any silly whimsical game she wants. And teach her to use her imagination and be creative. Also when I was a single mom I made sure my son had a strict 8:30 bedtime routine (bath, story, song etc.). That way I knew I would always have a few hours to take care of myself. Whether it be a glass of wine and a movie or reading, giving myself pedicures, whatever. Don’t feel guilty ever for needing that. Other then that ‘baptism by fire’ is a great way to learn, you will be fine you have a lot of love for her i can tell and that is what is important. And as for names what about Tess Olivia, or Audrey Ryann, or what is your middle name?????? It will come to you even if you have to wait until you see her. good luck.

    • ANSWER:

  5. QUESTION:
PLEASE HELP! My toddler wont go to bed!?
My son is 21 months old and has NEVER been a good sleeper. We moved him to a toddler bed when he was 19 months and that didn’t help. He always wakes up during the night EVER SINCE HE WAS A NEWBORN, He has slept probably 5 nights all the way through!!! When he used to wake up I was so tired I just put him in bed with me and my husband so we can all get some sleep, but I dont want to start that BAD HABIT (even though I may have already) So he sleeps great in our room (bigger comfy bed, dark curtains etc) SO I moved him to a queen re did his room AGAIN and still no luck. He just gets right up and SCREAMS BLOODY MURDER at the door for about 30-40 minutes. We always let him cry it out but it is getting really old. PLUS he can open doors, and if we put baby proofing products on the knobs he just pulls them off so he has a gate at his door. We have done the whole bedtime routine, reading books, brushing teeth EVERYTHING!

    DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVICE!?!?

    • ANSWER:
My son does the same thing. He is going on 2, he will get up numerous times. We put a baby gate up at his door so he cant get out and wander the house. When yours gets up and starts screaming just calmly go into his room put him in bed and say goodnight and leave the room. Give 3 chances then you’ll have to let him cry. Don’t give in to him crying otherwise he will cry until you cave in.

  6. QUESTION:
can i sell baby/adult guppies on craigslist?
i have tooooo many fish and they keep giving birth over and over again. i want to know if i can sell them on craigslist. ONLY ANSWER IF YOU KNOW FOR SURE. i would like it if you could have proof by having the website you got it off of. if not can i do it anywhere else? besides giving them to the pet store or my friends. plus what would be a good price for them. lots of answers plz!

    • ANSWER:
Sure, you can sell almost anything on craigslist!
The only problem is that guppies are very cheap and pet stores are overrun with them. So I’m not sure you could get a lot for them.

Chain stores usually take them for free, and people searching for fish on craigslist usually like free things as well. So if no one wants to pay for five of them or so, you can always give them away.

Just remember to be safe when using craigslist. Have the person come to you or meet in a public place.

  8. QUESTION:
    I need a job please!?
I need a job like many other people in this world. But please, my family is desperate for money. My husband works at UPS and makes 0 per week and our rent is 0 per month plus our car insurance is 0 per month and the gas and electric bill is 0 per month, and we need food and our food stamps keep getting cut off and we’re trying to get our daughter back from social services, she is 1 year old and the only thing left we have to do is finish baby proofing and repairing the house and between the cost of rent and repairs and all the bills we are broke. My dad is helping us with the bills until I can get a job so please someone give me a job! I’ve turned in hundreds of applications and haven’t recieved a single call back. I’m very good at computers, I do designs on adobe photoshop along with photoediting, I’m proficient with Microsoft office Excel, Powerpoint, Word, I know how to delete viruses and cookies, I can set up wireless internet connections, I can fix networking connectivity problems, and I was an intern at Hypernova videogames aka Evil Genius Video games. I’m very good at math and reading, I have a hobby of learning other languages (I’m only fluent in English but I know some Japanese, Spanish, and French). I’m also very good at training cats and dogs, I’ve had 3 jobs as a cashier, and I am also a very good sales person when it comes to electronics. I have no previous experience selling computers, mp3 players, etc. employment-wise, but I have had multiple personal experiences. One, for example, was when I was at Best Buy with my dad getting a new computer. I overheard this guy talking to his wife about how he wasn’t sure what kind of Ipod he wanted. I, personally, prefer Zunes. I’ve dealt with Ipods and I’ve dealt with Zunes so I walked over to him and I explained how although Ipods may seem better, they commony glitch, they’re overpriced because the main “operating system” of the device takes up more memory than the Zune “operating system” program does. Thus allowing you to put more songs and videos onto the Zune. In addition, with the Ipod if you want one that has Video, Music, Pictures, Games and Radio like the Zune you would have to spend 0-0 and the screen wouldn’t be as large as the zune screen, and it would most likely break within a year. Whereas a 6 Zune has Radio, games. video, pictures, etc. and you get over 80GB of memory and you can access more of the 80GB of memory than you would be able to access on a 80GB Ipod. Later, when my dad and I were at the front of the store checking the reciept for our purchase, we saw the same couple at a cashier paying for a zune.
I also used to intern at Dougals Catering as an assistant cook, and I interned at Hill Middle School as an 8th grade math teacher for the kids who had the most difficulty in math.
I have no college degrees, I have my high school GED, I do not have my Microsoft A+ certification but I know enough and will continue to learn just please someone give me a job! Please, I have no tickets on my record other than a wrongs to minor ticket that was given to us the day our daughter was taken because our house was messy even though we showed proof that the exterminators had come just beforehand and when they come to spray you have to move everything to the centers of each room. Please I love my daughter and I need her home with me! Please, someone please give me a job and I promise you won’t regret it! I am a hard worker and all I need is a break from standing once an hour because the MCL ligaments in both of my legs are torn and they’ve been torn for the past 4 years, I have my medcal marijuana license but I do not come to work under the influence of my medication, thus why I’ll need to sit for 5-10 minutes every hour-half hour. Please, I promise I will work hard just please someone give me a chance and please give me a job! Please e-mail me at monicamorse57@yahoo.com if you have a job opening.
    Thank you

I’ve very empathetic about your situation. I myself am looking for a job. But it is going to be a long, tough life if you don’t get a college education. You can fill out the form provided through the Web site below to become eligible for grants. Child Car Safety Seats – Your Options

By Ciara McGrath

Before you take your new baby home in your car you will need to buy a suitable car safety seat.

Seats for new born infants must be rear facing for safety. This is because a baby younger than about 12 months old does not have neck muscles that are strong enough to support the head. When a car stops suddenly the back rest of a rear facing child seat is designed to support your baby

In the past getting a car seat for an infant was simply a matter of going to the local retailer of baby goods and getting whatever was on sale. For some it was a matter of asking a relative with small children or, in some cases, simply doing without. A few generations ago seeing a baby riding in the lap of an older sibling or parent was completely normal. These days transporting an infant in a car that does not have a proper car seat installed can lead to fines and even imprisonment.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Where can I find the best safety latches for baby proofing cabinet doors?
I bought the Wal-Mart brand and they are not very practical. I am looking for ones that are easy to install

    • ANSWER:
I live in earthquake turf and we use them to keep glass and other objects from flying out of cupboards during quakes. I’ve used several different types, but have found the easiest ones to both install and operate are the ones that Lowes sells. They also aren’t as unsightly as many of the other ones and the plastic they are made out of doesn’t snap with “adult” strength pressure.

I read somewhere online that dealerships install the anchor latch free of charge….is that true or how much would it cost? Im in Canada

    • ANSWER:
In Canada, it is a law to have your carseats tethered. Yes, GM will install one tether anchor at no charge…and there is no charge for the hardware. You need to contact your local dealership and they will install it for you. Since it is required in Canada, they MAY be able to install more at no charge.

Is it a Chrysler Town and Country? You can have TA’s installed outboard, but not in the center and you can have them at all seating locations in the 3rd row. The part number is 05017529AA. That part no. is for all of the seating locations.

Refer to Technical Service Bulletin 23-08-00 Revision A for details. It is only with certain older models.

  3. QUESTION:
Do you use safety latches on kitchen cupboards or teach baby not to touch them?
my son is one and has learnt how to open the cupboards and draws, just wondering if you bought the safetly latches or just taught your baby not to do it

by the way, he cant get into anything ‘dangerous’ – i’ve made sure of that, just the tupperware and pan cupboards but i dont want to have to clean all them up everyday

    • ANSWER:
We don’t use latches, however for cupboards with the nobs close together we do just use an elastic band around them so he can’t open them. When our son was younger we did have a gate up to the kitchen, now he’s 27 months and we’ve moved to a house with two doorways to the kitchen and only one gate, so whenever he’s in the kitchen if he tries anything we just tell him, no, danger, and he steps away. I was told to say danger rather than hot, or just no, and it seems to be working great. But he’s still curious and gets into things everynow and then.

  4. QUESTION:
Which brand is the best to use for baby safety?
I’m trying to stop my little one from opening doors, and drawers. I have the brand safety first, using their cabinet
& drawer latches, and the ones with the tension release strap, but i find the sticky stuff holding them in place, just fails…everytime. I sick of wasting money on a product that doesn’t work. What can I use to stop my child opening drawers, cupboards, shower doors……if you know something that definately works let me know..

    • ANSWER:
I believe I have the same kind of cabinet locks and you are supposed to screw them in. The adhesive tape on them is so they stay in place while you screw them into the cabinet.

If you have cabinet doors with the handle together, I suggest just getting the slide locks. They had them that looked like a U shape and you just slid the end on and then pushed buttons on the top and bottom to slide them off. I cant find them anymore though :( BUT now they have these ones that look like a diamond and 2 zip tie looking things that you loop through the center diamond piece… they are mommy proof too though LOL! I bought both of these at walmart.

For the doors, they have door knob covers at walmart too. OR you can buy a gate and not let him or her in the kitchen and close the bathroom door…

  5. QUESTION:
I need ideas for baby safety on screen doors.?
My son is 18 months old and we have a latch that keeps the door shut, but now he is tall enough to reach the door handle (it isnt a knob it is a handle that goes across about 2 inches) Well we have been keeping the big door open because it is summer. I need some ideas on how I can keep the screen door shut, if there is a latch or something on the market when I can stop him from opening the screen door all the way. Thank you!

    • ANSWER:
You can buy a little gate that hitches onto the door! Im sure they sell them like at Walmart!

  6. QUESTION:
What is the best car seat for safety reasons, and that will last a long time (grow with baby)?
Just turned one year, 24lbs, around 31-32″ tall??? Money is no object but my car only has seat belts no latches.
Must be easy to install and take out due to two different vehicles it will go in, and able to fit in small cars like a 99 kia sportage.

    • ANSWER:

  7. QUESTION:
I need a seatbelt sown smaller! Is It Illegal? for baby capsule?
    hi there

i have a baby capsule and it has a seatbelt that goes around the unit and clicks into the safety latch. the belt is too long and i cant get it tight enough to hold the capsule still….

if i was to take it to a apolstry place or somewhere they could use industrial grade stiching and sow it smaller, is it illegal???

    what to do?

    • ANSWER:
Yes, they should be able to do it with no problem. The belt isn’t holding back an adult, so normal stitching like what is done on the belt ends is more than sufficient.

Why you asked this in the aircraft section, I have no idea.

  8. QUESTION:
Buy a used car that does not have LATCH installed?
The model car I am seriously considering buying (1995 model) does not have the latest LATCH safety bars/latches in it, as far as I know for the models produced that year. This particular car did not get that feature until a few years later than 1995. However, this is the only car I can afford right now :( I have a 20 month old toddler whose booster car seat HAS to be used with a LATCH system. Is there any safe way to purchase/use this car? Can LATCH be installed later?? (I know that’s not likely!!) What are my options here? I am going to read back through my carseat manual, but in the meantime anyone else find a solution for this problem?? I am REALLY big on safety for my baby’s carseat, that’s why I am looking to see if we can possibly work with this car, or not. Thanks so much for your experience with this prob!
OK people, NOOO, my child is not in an ACTUAL booster, she is in a carseat!!! I guess I put booster because she’s not in an INFANT seat. Geezus can I just get an answer for the question please?? In my question I stated I AM REALLY PICKY ON SAFETY do you really think my child is in a booster??!
She is in a REAR FACING CARSEAT. Geez.

    • ANSWER:
A booster for a baby? THAT IS NOT SAFE. Baby needs to be ina convertible, many easily use the car seat belts for installation. We have seats that are installed using the seat belts, and not LATCH. We have ‘three across’, the middle one needs the seat belt install. It is just as safe if installed correctly. But at your child’s age, baby should be in a 5-point harness rear-facing. A booster is useless for a child this young. If money is tight, WalMart and BigLots sell 5 pt harness convertible seats that RF in a harness to 30 pounds, FF to 40 pounds. These seats are safer than a booster. Best seats FF in a harness to 65 pounds.

Baby’s First Adventure Home From the Hospital

Author: David Cummings

Bringing baby home from the hospital is one of the big events in life. Whether your baby comes home right away, arrives later, or comes through an adoption, the first homecoming of the little one is a major event that you have probably imagined and looked forward to for a long time. It may or may not turn out to be what you expected, so you need to be prepared for some of the situations that could arise. Before embarking to the hospital for that joyous day, you will need to pack clothes for the return trip home. Most moms look forward to the first outfit their baby will wear but often time do not give their own attire the proper thought. Make sure you have loose fitting clothes or drawstring or elastic waist pants as you are not likely to fit into what you wore before pre-pregnancy.

More often than not, parents elaborately dress their baby for the return home. It is an exciting time and a time which is very easy to get over-zealous; however, you need to remember that it’s more important to have your baby feel comfortable and be healthy your than it is to wear fancy first-arrival clothes.

Although you may want a lovely dress or the latest rough-and-tumble wear, a nicely decorated one-piece outfit, in your favorite color and with a fun pattern or image, is often the best outfit a newborn can wear. Regardless of the weather, warm or cold, it’s important that you baby keep something on his or her head to help maintain body temperature. Though you’ll likely have received a cap from the hospital, finding a cute cap is the easiest way to show-off your new baby’s style. You’ll also need to keep your infant wrapped in at least one cozy blanket – perhaps a few if you’ll be arriving home in the wintry months. You will be much more likely to bring home a calm, happy baby if you don’t’ put the baby through an ordeal of getting dressed into some complicated outfit before you and baby leave the hospital.

If you haven’t made arrangements with your healthcare provider for your baby’s first checkup, make sure you schedule this before you leave the hospital. There are many baby health topics that you will begin to learn about during your stay in the hospital and you’ll likely feel a bit overwhelmed, but you can be confident that the doctors and nurses will be sure that you understand the most important information you need to know. In your baby’s first post-birth checkup, your physician can help fill you in on the many other health topics of which you’ll need to be aware. As you leave the hospital, and for your first days at home, if you find yourself wondering about anything, be sure to write down your questions so you can ask your healthcare consultant at your child’s check-up.

The most important item you will need for the trip home is a child safety seat. Every state in the US requires parents to have one before leaving the hospital. Your precious baby is too important for you to not take every possible measure to keep him or her safe, right? No matter how short the trip your baby is not safe in your arms. Even a quick stop could result in injury to your baby. Get a car seat and use it!

There are a few different kinds of car seats but only two types are suitable for transporting newborns: infant car seats and convertible car seats. Infant car seats are designed to face rearward, which is an absolute necessity to protect your newborn’s head and neck in an abrupt stop, and must generally be replaced when your baby gets to be about 20 pounds. Convertible car seats are designed to provide a rearward position for newborns but also accommodate forward facing positions for older babies and toddlers. Whichever seat type you purchase, be sure to locate your infant in the rear seat of your car. Your baby should never be situated in the front of the vehicle!

Though you may feel a bit overwhelmed with both joy and anxiety when it’s time to take your baby home, bringing your child home is not a complicated task. Just be sure to take the time to plan your baby’s needs as well as your needs and you’ll soon find yourself enjoying time at home with your happy and healthy baby.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Has anyone bought a safety first z80 travel system or a safety first “traveler” travel system? First baby!?
Has anyone bought a safety first z80 travel system or a safety first “traveler” travel system?
Just wondering if anyone has any comments or concerns about these two strollers or if there are any other strollers recommended? We are having our first baby in November and are trying to find a stroller that will be good for around that time.

    • ANSWER:
What I’d recommend is getting your infant carseat, and getting the Snap-N-Go stroller. It’s just a stroller frame that fits most carseat brands. It’s so much easier to use. It’s light weight and doesn’t take up a lot of room in your car trunk or cargo area. Then once your baby begins to outgrow the infant carseat, you can shop for a stroller you really like that doesn’t have you limited to just a travel system and you’ll probably save money in the process. I did this with my twins. I HATED the big bulky travel system, then found a used double snap-n-go on craigslist for half the cost of new, then sold it when I was done with it and got some of my money back in the process.

It’s truly the way to go!

  2. QUESTION:
What are the toxic-free brands of baby toys? Are brands such as Safety First and The First Years safe?
Are these brands free of pthalates? My baby is 7 months old and she needs some toys to stimulate her. Any suggestions. Safe toys, of course.

    • ANSWER:
No, most of the toys you will find at regular commercial toy stores do contain pthalates. The FDA and other regulatory agencies do now acknowledge any dangers in pthalates, parabens, dioxins, SLS, sodium polyacrylate, etc., so the manufacturers don’t see a need to change to more expensive materials. If you want non-toxic toys, shop at natural baby stores. Some good online stores are:

  3. QUESTION:

Are they easily breakable or strudy? :) Thanks to everyone who answers.

I’d wait til bub is clawing around to put them on!! I also put on the corner covers too!! (for the coffee table) and used a broom upside down for the drawers!!

  5. QUESTION:
I will be having a first baby soon. Do I need to get rid of my cat and Labrador for safety reasons?

    Change that to “My wife…”

    • ANSWER:
No, unless your dog has a bad temperment. You can keep both cats and dogs. Pregnant women should not clean litterboxes, but whoever said that you should get rid of your cat should be sent away. We have two cats and they are curious but very gentle with our baby. Just always watch them when they are together. Also, get a crib tent because your cats may want to snuggle with baby when sleeping and that is not safe as heavier cats can make it difficult for baby to breathe if they jump on top of the baby. Please do not abandon your beloved animals. There are always ways to make living situations work for all.

One thing we did is that when my baby was born, my husband would go back and forth from the hospital to home to feed the cats, etc. Each time he went, I sent him with a blanket or clothing item that smelled like the baby. When I came home, my husband carried the baby in and I went straight for the cats so that they knew I stilled loved them. Apparently, cats can get jealous. My cats love the baby and I think they think she is theirs too because they try to groom her and run to her when she cries.

  6. QUESTION:
Does anybody have the safety first high definition baby monitor?
This monitor was recommended to me by several people as it doesn’t interfere with wireless networks, cell signals etc. and from what I have observed from seeing it in use at my sister’s house it is great. However, I can’t seem to get a charge on the parent unit. Has anybody else had this problem. I’m going to call the company tomorrow during business hours, but wanted to check to see if anybody else had a solution for me.
I’ve pulled out the plastic tab to make the connection available to the battery and have opened up the back to make sure the rechargable batteries are properly aligned and that the plastic tab was fully removed.

    • ANSWER:
No i dont have that monitor, just take it back to the store you bought it, dont even bother ringing they should replace/refund for you

  7. QUESTION:
Does your baby monitor pick up weird noises?
I have a safety first baby monitor and it’s been quiet all night and then about 5 minutes ago there was this loud static noise that lasted about .5 seconds.

Seriously made me jump out of my skin. I can’t help but think there’s something lurking around here that I can’t see!

Does the static on your monitor ever freak you out?

    • ANSWER:
I used to have a Safety 1st monitor and got an angel care one because I had the same problem, but even then it still happens so I also think that there is something lurking around here too.

I think it has to do with the plug in, but I could be wrong.

  8. QUESTION:
When to know the safety of the baby?
Hello I am 9weeks pregnant. And this is our first baby. Can I ask until how many weeks should I need to wait to confirm the safety of the baby until his/her birth? I was afraid to all of the story I heard regarding my friends on their first born child.. Can you give me more advices on how to be more aware on everything to ensure the safety of my baby?

    thanks. more power to all.

    • ANSWER:
There is no way to say that a baby will be good until birth. Problems can arise at any point in pregnancy. Things you can do to help the baby have the best gestation possible include: Eat a healthy diet, do not consume any alcohol or smoke. Avoid any stress. Try to avoid fattening food and beverages as your health directly effects the baby. I am sure your baby will be ok, good luck. :)

Baby Car Seat Safety – Your Must Know Guide

Author: Joshua Poon

It is very important to use the correct type of baby seat when you have an infant on board. Most people do not know how to install a baby car seat safely. Do you know that some hospitals won’t discharge a mom and new baby until they see the car seat? Fortunately, many kinds of infant car seats exist in the market.

The easiest baby car seat to utilize is the kind that has a base that is buckled securely to the seat. This car seat itself can be lifted off and carried around by the handle. This is will be convenient to you because the baby can be carried to and from the house or wherever the child is going while strapped into the seat. These infant seats usually will only be safe for transporting babies facing backward, until the age of one year. When the baby is 18 pounds, and at least one year old, it is time for a forward-facing baby car seat. Plus, by the time the baby is that old, and weighs 18 pounds, he will be too heavy to lug around that way! You will want to get the baby out of the baby seat, and carry him, or he may even be walking by then!

The next kind of baby car seat is called a convertible car seat. Many of these baby car seats can be placed in the backward-facing position for when babies grow out of their infant seats, but are not yet old enough, or at a heavy enough weight to sit facing forward. Then, the convertible baby car seat can be turned to face forward, and will seat the baby until the baby is 40 pounds or more. These have a 5-point harness that is buckled at the bottom and the chest.

Once the baby reaches 40 pounds, he will move to a booster seat. This seat is a small base that keeps the child secure, while allowing him to use the regular seat belt. The child can usually sit in this type of car seat until he weighs 80 pounds!

As a rule of thumb, babies and children below the age of twelve are supposed to be seated behind, not in the front seat. The safest place is the center of the back seat. This is because studies show that air bags in the front seat may cause injuries to children. So if possible, never allow a child to be seated in front.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Where should the baby safety car seat be located, middle or sides of the car, when facing front?

    • ANSWER:
The middle is safest by far… but having said that, you can put the baby in any position you wish so long as there is an anchor point to attach the seat to.

When i had one baby she went in the middle forward facing but on the side when rearfacing due to issues with the size of the car.

When i had two kids the baby was on the side the whole time as well as the older child who was also in a car seat still.

When i had three kids the newborn capsule went on the side as its hard to get it in the car when its in the middle, but when he went forward facing he went in the middle, with the two older ones in car seats on the sides

    • ANSWER:
Tip 1. Securing your child car safety seat Always install the seat tightly, using your body weight to tighten and fasten the seatbelt. There should be no more than 2.5 cm (1″) of movement of the seat from side to side or forward. Each time you place your child in the car safety seat, give it a tug to make sure it is still secure

Tip 2. Using tether straps with forward-facing car seats
The tether strap for a forward-facing child car safety seat must be used. The tether strap is located on the rear of the child car safety seat and has a hook. The hook is designed to attach the strap to the tether anchorage on the vehicle as specified by the vehicle manufacturer. Ensure the tether is only secured to the designated anchorage point(s) in the vehicle as specified by the manufacturer.

Tip 3. Using Universal Anchorage System (UAS) / LATCH
All new Canadian vehicles manufactured on or after September 1, 2002 come with lower universal anchorage points. Consult the vehicle owner’s manual before using the UAS system/LATCH to determine where the anchorage points are located and ensure that the correct method is used as advised by the car seat manufacturer.

      Tip 5. Using harness slots
Your child car safety seat’s harness straps must be positioned correctly by ensuring they pass through the correct slots.

Rear-facing child car safety seat harness straps should sit at or below the child’s shoulders.
Forward-facing child car safety seat harness straps should sit at or above the child’s shoulders.

Tip 6. Securing your child in the harness
Ensure that the harness system is snug enough on your child’s chest to allow only one finger width between the strap and the child’s collarbone.

Tip 7. Positioning your harness straps
Ensure that harness straps lie flat and they do not twist or fold. Harnesses need to be straightened out each time the child is secured in the seat.

      Tip 8. Adjusting chest clips
Properly adjust the chest clips on the harness. They should lie flat against the chest and be positioned at armpit level.

Tip 9. Installing away from active air bags
Always install child car safety seats away from active air bags. The safest place is in the back seat of a passenger car, sport utility vehicle or light truck and either the second or third row in a mini-van.

Tip 10. Installing your rear-facing child car safety seat on a proper angle

Most child car safety seats have a recline position that must be used when in the rear-facing position for an infant (up to 9kg or 20lbs). Check your child car safety seat owner’s manual for instructions. For rear-facing seats, if necessary, use a tightly rolled towel or a foam bar (pool noodle) under the base of the child car safety seat to adjust the angle to 45 degrees. A forward-facing child car safety seat should be in the upright position. Make sure that when the seat is turned from rear-facing to forward-facing, the recline feature is adjusted to the upright position.

  5. QUESTION:
Where can I rent/hire a baby car seat in Madrid? Are there taxis that offer that service?
We will be visiting Spain next month and we are traveling with our 8 month old daughter. I need to rent a car seat to use for 7 days. Are there taxi or other transportation services that offer baby safety seats. I’m mainly worried about the trip from the airport to our hotel.

    • ANSWER:
Being an advid traveller, i prefer to bring my own, i then know what condition the car seat in. every time i rent one it never seems to be in great condition.
most airlines allow you to transport the car seat for free, and not counted as a piece of luggage

  6. QUESTION:
two boosters and a baby car seat in a medium sized car?
I need to fit three kids car seats into my peugeot 307 (two boosters and a baby seat). The problem is that their combined width is greater than the width of the back seat.I have looked around, but most seats seem to be of similiar width.Does anyone know of a slimline range of safety seats?
I really don’t want to buy a new car to solve this temporary problem
its not really the seat part which causes the problem, more the styling wings, arms and cup holders which makes the whole thing too wide to fit across a normal car seat. The only solution seems to buy a van like people carrier which are wider than a standard car. There must be a better solution

car seats are all pretty much the same just different styles (decorations) and as for strollers i would suggest getting one that you can open with one hand or really easy to open and storage on the bottom… there has been a recall on alot of strollers with the sun hood injuring fingers so just make sure you look up the item before you buy to see if it has been recalled

While doing a writing assignment this week I discovered that cloth diapers are making a comeback. Without having to pay close attention to new baby products recently I had no idea. But these are not the diapers my mother used.  Gone are the days of diaper pins, large square cotton cloths that were impossible to fit, and plastic cover pants that never protected anything. The modern version of this eco-friendly necessity is technically designed to rival its disposable counterpart. With nearly 5 billion tons of untreated waste filling our landfills each year from disposable diapers alone, these new cloth diapers are worth the time to research.

As a young mom in the latter part of the 1970′s I wanted to be the kind of mother I had so I was going to tough it out and resist using the newly introduced disposable diapers. My highly traditional mother balked at them and actually insisted I give cloth a try. So she saw to it that I was fully equipped with the traditional cloth diaper and all of its accessories. I soon found them to be useless in keeping baby dry and when grandma wasn’t looking succumbed to the use of disposables turning my cloth diapers into awesome dust rags! But through my recent research of cloth diapers I was impressed with how technology has evolved this traditional baby product into a must-see alternative for new parents.

There are many brands to choose from and the new parent will be overwhelmed with the choices.  These diapers are designed for effectiveness, convenience and the fashion conscious. They begin with two basic styles.

The all in one (aio) is just as the name implies. No outer covering is necessary as this diaper comes with one. They do not require big ole safety pins as they come with snap or sticky enclosures.  All in ones come with a “soaker” already sewn into the diaper. Some styles offer a pocket so an additional soaker can be inserted for those little ones who really have to go.

The all in two (ai2), theoretically, is for those parents who want to try to get two uses out of one diaper. The soaker then is snapped in or lays into a pocket where moisture is trapped keeping the rest of the diaper dry. This is then replaceable and the diaper can be used more than once.

These new alternative to diapering baby not only offer a break to the environment but they also bring relief to the family budget as they can save as much as 50% of what it would cost to use disposable diapers only. Most families still see the need for disposables but are using both methods as a way to save.

Many parents also find that today’s cloth diaper is better for baby’s skin and new laundering techniques make cleaning them easy. Any new parent can begin researching this product through the countless mommy blogs and cloth diaper forums found on the internet.

Today’s parents have a wealth of information available to them and will find solace in the support that others will bring.

The Time is Right for the Kidco BabySteps Electric Food Mill

By Wayne Baker

Hey, Wayne Baker here.

And you’re reading my uncensored review of what I really thought about the Kidco BabySteps Electric Food Mill. Why am I writing this? Well, when I was thinking of buying the Kidco BabySteps Electric Food Mill, there weren’t many real reviews around. So, I thought I’d do a quick write-up to help any of you who are in the same position I was.

With a new baby in the house approaching six months of age, we have started to think about solid foods. With our previous two children, we simply used commercially available processed foods. This time around, we want to do something better.

Many pediatricians recommend organic foods until the age of three. During this time babies are especially susceptible to the effects of environmental toxins, due to the fact that their cells are reproducing very rapidly.

With the expense of and difficulty in obtaining commercially available organic foods, a viable alternative seems to be to make our own.

Researching products has led me to see a common comment with some inexpensive food mills, that the motor wears out after two or three uses and that they don’t make enough food at once to be useful.

A very nice system that I have found is the KidCo BabySteps Electric Food Mill.

This system consists of an electric food mill with a two-cup capacity bowl, a very nice size for preparing adequate food for several days.

One of the things that I hate the most is cleaning. I am familiar with food processing and blender type devices that typically require careful cleaning of the motor since it cannot be immersed in water. The KidCo food mill has been ingeniously designed so that the five parts that need to be cleaned can all be simply put in the top rack of a dishwasher, while the motor is completely isolated and does not require cleaning at all. Very nice.

People who would benefit the most from purchasing the KidCo BabySteps Electric Food Mill are parents who are interested in the best for their baby’s health without going to a lot of extra hassle. This device is so easy to use and clean that it really doesn’t require a lot of extra work to provide your baby with the best possible nutrition at a very reasonable price.

The only thing that might be nice would be the addition of a recipe book, although this is certainly a minor complaint, and one could certainly upgrade to the KidCo BabySteps Basic Natural Feeding System, which includes a book.

This food mill is so simple to use that it can literally be used right out of the box, although it is recommended that you clean the parts before the first use.

The KidCo BabySteps Electric Food Mill is worth every penny of its cost and will make a nice addition to the kitchen of any household with a baby on board. With the health benefits of making baby food at home, you can
