NEW BABY SAFETY BATH SUCTION ...

High-Tech, Baby!

Author: AOL Baby

With all of the technological advances we’ve seen with computers, cellphones, vehicles, etc. it’s not surprising that the baby market is being influenced as well. Cool baby gifts today include high tech features to keep baby safe, comfortable, and engaged, or to utilize new technology to make parenting simpler.

The Why Cry Baby Crying Analyzer boasts being able to decipher baby’s crying to find out what the cause is. The Answers to the crying questions are displayed on the easy-to-read LED monitor.

The ItzBeen Baby Care Timer is a cool baby gift that helps sleep-deprived over over-stressed parents keep track of their child’s important activities. There’s even a reminder notification for nursing moms!

The Aquatopia Deluxe Safety Bath Thermometer Alarm checks water temperature and doubles as a colorful tutrle for for bath-time play.

The 4Moms Cleanwater Infant Tub solves the basic problem of how to keep water clean for baby during bath time. A hole in the tub side drains dirty water while clean water flows in. It’s techie feature is a built-in digital thermometer that indicates by color when water is too cold (blue), too hot (red) or just right (green).

4Moms also offers the Good Night Sleep Trainer that’s supposed to help baby’s sleep be longer and more peacefully. Featuring a progessive timer to teach children to soothe themselves, schedules interactions to support healthy development, options for parents to track sleep patterns, get tips and compare their child’s sleep data online.

The Twilight Ladybug and Twilight Turtle Constellation NIght Light helps create a relaxing bedtime atmosphere. The night lights project constellations in three different colored light settings and includes a guide for identifying the stars.

The Flip Video Mino HD is great because it’s slim enough to slip into a diaper bag pocket and simple enough so even the most sleep-deprived, baby bogged parent can operate it.

Braun Multiquick Handheld Blender is great for making your own organic baby food with baby in arm!

Lorex LCD Wireless Surveillance System features an LCD screen that provides a crisp and clear picture of your child while you’re out of the room. Thankfully, the same technology that made phones clearer and screens smaller has influeced the design of today’s monitors. No more cluncky, static-emitting monstrosities!

Finally, the Snotsucker! Made by Nosefrida, the Snotsucker is a doctor-recommended nasal aspirator to help keep baby’s nasal passages clear. It comes with disposable filters to help avoid the spread of infection and is dishwasher-safe for easy cleaning.

The key to picking the right high-tech baby gadget is to ask yourself two questions:

1) Does it solve a common problem?

2) Does it help add to the quality of life of baby’s early years?

was wondering if someone could give me some information or links where i could find info because im having a hard time…

    things like:
how deep the water should be
    how hot it should be

  2. QUESTION:
Does anyone own this Safety 1st baby/bath item?
My daughter is 9 months old and her infant tub is getting too small for her and I’m nervous about bathing her in the big bath tub. She can sit on her own and I have tried bathing her in the sink but she’s also getting too big for that.

My question is, does anyone have the Safety 1st tubside bath seat? The one that attaches to the side of the bath tub? Is it a good bath seat? How long can I use it for, age/weight wise? Do/did you find it useful? If not can you recommend something else you have found useful?

Thanks for the info in advance :)

    • ANSWER:
Its a good bathseat as long as shes not pulling to stand. It doesnt have height or weight requirements on it at all so its really just till they can pull themselves out of it. We have one but we dont use it anymore but i will say i loved it while we used it and now we got sticky fish for the bottom of the tub so they dont slip all around.

I would definitely reccomend it though if your looking for something to just keep her up and in place in works very well. We used ours from 4 months to just before 13 months for our slow sitter.

  3. QUESTION:
AVEENO BABY CALMING comforting bath safety warning?
The Aveeno Baby lavender and vanilla calming comfort bath has a safety warning that states, “keep this product out of reach of children. Do not use without consulting a doctor if child has asthma or allergies or if there is a family history of either. Serious breathing problems could occur.” Does anyone know what ingredient in it would cause some sort of reaction like that? I didn’t notice this warning till my friend pointed it out and it was suprising b.c. I thought aveeno was a “good” brand. in case you wish to compare the rest of the bottle its front states:
    Natural Oat Formula
    Tear-Free
    Helps Calm babies before bedtime

just am concerned that something might potentially affect my babys breathing b.c. asthma and allergies do run in my family. anyone else notice this on other innocuous seeming baby products they have and ended up being suprised as well?

    • ANSWER:
It is because of the scent. Most doctors recommend an unscented baby wash for those with eczema, allergies, asthma.

  4. QUESTION:
im looking for a website i saw in mothering magazine to check the ingredients and safety of baby bath products

  5. QUESTION:
    Baby safety?
I was wondering what sort of room, bath and temperature thermometers you have all used for your babies. For the temperature i’ve seen ones you can use across their forehead, but then there all these expensive ones to use in their mouth or ears etc. so i havent got a clue which one to get and if the forehead ones are even accurate? then there are the basic room thermometers that you stick on the wall, and then ive seen ones like the grobag egg etc. and same for the bath ones. i feel that if i got the basic cheap ones, i would be a bad mum for not buying the best to make sure my baby is completely safe when shes born. i already feel guilty, but then i dont want to waste money on the expensive stuff when the basic stuff is just as good? what do you think i should do??

    31 weeks & 6 days.
Thank you everyone, its a relief to hear the expensive stuff isnt as essential as i thought! I think its because my boyfriends sister who just had her baby bought all the expensive things so i assumed its what i should get too. I will stick with the basic ones, and get an ear thermometer. thanks again.

    • ANSWER:
You don’t need all the expensive stuff, your mam didn’t have all this stuff & her mam & her mam & her mam, you get the picture. The cheep ones will be ok.
Have a look around you local car boot, you should be able to get almost every thing you need at a fraction of the high street cost, & it’s not all used stuff, Babys grow very quickly so lots of babys out grow clothes before they are ever worn, brand named stuff too. ;-)

  6. QUESTION:
whats the best & largest baby bath for the shower only bathroom?
i now have a shower only bathroom and would like advice on the biggest bath i can find for a baby can anyone recommend something other than the regular baby tubs. (keeping safety in mind) thanks??

    • ANSWER:
We only have a shower too, so we started out with a baby bath, but that only lasted about 3 months. We went to using a plastic storage crate on wheels (90L). This is great. It fitted the baby laying down bath aid and the sitting up one too. My son is 7 months and can sit up by himself and it is fine.

  7. QUESTION:
Safety 1st Swivel bath seat – anyone used this?
    Bought this for my son:

    http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Babies-R-Us/Bathing/Bath-Safety/Swivel-Bath-Seat(0029787)

Only thing is I can’t attach the little toy bar! It’s supposed to just click in but my partner and I spent an hour trying and can’t figure it out. The instructions aren’t helpful either… they just say DO NOT USE WITHOUT TOY ATTACHMENT as though baby will die without it. Anyone used one of these seats and/or have any idea how to get the toys on?! Thanks

    • ANSWER:
I have that one for my daughter but the toy part was already in place when we took it out the box!
This is what it says in the book that came with it :

      1) push the 3 coloured toys into the D shaped toy loop flexing the coloured toy as necessary

      2) with the D shaped toy loop pointed outwards , click the axel ends into the toy housing on the front of the ring . The narrow end of the axel should click into the smaller hole .

      Hope this helped :)

  8. QUESTION:
How do you give your baby a bath?
Just curious…. do you use an infant bath tub or an infant bath seat? Those of you who use the bath seat (the round thing the baby can sit in and it keeps them in an upright position while in the regular size bathtub) do you like it? Which one do you have? My 6 month old doesn’t fit in the infant bath tub and I would like to start giving her a bath with her 2 year old brother. We bought a safety first bath seat that hooks over the tub, but it’s got sharp edges and won’t suction to the tub and she just looks uncomfortable in it. Do you like your infant tub seat?

    • ANSWER:
i would use the seat or if your 6mo can sit alone and be there watching baby cause the baby is still to little to be left unattended the seat that’s works best is the round one that has suction things at the bottom of the seat that you place inside the tub or a slip mat at the bottom of the tub so your baby wont slip around while she sitting.

Bathing Baby

You are just home from the hospital with your precious baby.  Reality is now setting in, where to begin?  You know you are going to be the best parent ever, no question there.  Then you realize there are so many other things to consider.  Besides loving your baby with beyond any emotion you have ever experienced you need to keep your baby well fed, warm and clean.

The first bath can be intimidating for all parents, experienced or otherwise.  Here’s how to bathe baby and what you’ll need to make baby-bathing easy. With any luck, his bath will become one of the most enjoyable parts of your days together:

1.Assemble all necessary bath accessories close to the bathing area and in easy reach.

2. Fill the tub with 2 to 3 inches of water that feels warm but not hot, about 90 degrees Fahrenheit (32 degrees Celsius).  You can dip your elbow in and if the water feels luke warm that is about right.

3. Make sure the bathing area is warm and free of drafts.  Bring your baby to the bath area and undress him completely.

4. Gradually slip your baby into the tub, using one hand to support his neck and head. Pour cupfuls of bath water over him regularly during the bath so he doesn’t get too cold.  Some parents find the Spa Baby Tub a great way to bathe baby as the baby is never really without water and stays snug and warm throughout the bath time.

5. Use soap sparingly (it dries your baby’s skin) as you wash him with your hand or a washcloth from top to bottom, front to back. Gently wash his scalp with a wet, soapy cloth. Use a moistened cotton ball to clean his eyes and face. As for your baby’s genitals, a routine washing is all that is needed. If dried mucus has collected in the corner of your baby’s nostrils or eyes, dab it several times with a small section of a moistened washcloth to soften it before you wipe it out.

6. Rinse your baby thoroughly with a clean washcloth.

7. Wrap your baby in a hooded towel and pat him dry.  The Kangaroo Towel is a product that is highly recommended.  You wear this hooded towel while bathing baby, then when you are ready to take the baby out of the tub, just slip him into the towels pouch.  Baby never gets cold and you can cuddle and make baby feel secure immediately.

8.  If his skin is dry, or if he has a bit of a diaper rash, you may want to apply a mild lotion after his bath.

Although some parents bathe their babies every day, until yours is crawling around and getting into messes, a bath isn’t really necessary more than once or twice a week. (Just wash his face frequently and thoroughly clean his genital area after each diaper change.) When you do bathe him, you may find it a little scary to handle your wiggly little one when he’s all soapy and slippery, so keep a good grip. Most babies find the warm water very soothing.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
baby gate for a shih tzu?
i want to keep my shih tzu in the kitchen when i am not home. but my kitchen is open so i will need a corner gate. what can i do to close off the kitchen. it seems that there is no baby corner gate made.. please help
i need to close off the kitchen as my puppy is still in training mode
yes i have thought of using the crate training.. which i am still reading up on it to understand exactly what i do. Because my shih tzu is still in her L’s. i need to keep her enclosed in the kitchen when i am not home so she will not have accidents
my bathroom downstairs is very small and can probably only fit her sleeping basket and newspaper but hardly any walking space. which i thought is no good for my shih tzu

the playpen style will not really work for me because i want her sleeping basket, feeding area and newspaper for pooping to be in a area she can get to easily. rather than moving it in and out of the playpen when i am home or out

    • ANSWER:
Have you thought about crate training instead?

      Added:
Well, you should try to give your puppy as little space as possible and yet big enough to move around. Giving the pup more room to move around gives the opportunity for more mistakes. If your kitchen isn’t too big then I would say that it is okay.

But try to crate train your pup as soon as possible. It takes a lot of time and patience but it’s worth it. This particular method is a bit hard if you work during the day, that’s the only down side. But just be sure that when you are at home you do whatever you can to show your pup the crate is her place. My little Shih Tzu would go in and out on her own when she was tired. She loved it!

Oh and if you already haven’t, you should move her water and food bowl far away from her pad and sleeping area so she doesn’t associate the pooping area with her food and sleeping area. She needs to know that there’s no pooping and peeing in her food and sleep area.

  2. QUESTION:
Trying to gate off a corner for a child’s play area?
I need to gate off a corner for my child’s play area while I am working. I know about the configure / interlocking baby gates, but I am looking for an alternate solution.

It is a 100 sq. ft. area. Two sides are walls, so I need 20 ft of gate to corner off the room. Any safe ideas that are cheap and secure for a toddler? Thank you for any help!!

    • ANSWER:
If your child is small enough you could use these Step Over Extension For Stair Gates (Model SGX) from http://www.stairgatestore.com. You can keep adding extensions as you need.

  3. QUESTION:
Do you think it is safe to step over a baby gate when pregnant?
I am 7 weeks pregnant and because I have two dogs we have a baby gate in our house to stop them getting to a certain area. As we live in an old victorian house we cannot get a gate that open in the middle and it is basically just pressured into the four corner of the wall to stop it from moving… therefore it is a pain to put it back into place..

so i usually just step over it… it is about waist high… Do you think it is safe to do this or not?

This might be a silly question.

    • ANSWER:
I think it’s safe as long as you’re careful to make sure you don’t fall.

I think it would be more worthwhile to open and close it all the time just in case.

  4. QUESTION:
Where can I get a baby gate for my dinning room?
Ok here it is my child loved to go in my dinning room which in connected to my kitchen. I have tried putting just a regular gate on the wall but my wall it catty cornered. Where can I get a gate that will fit my wall.

    • ANSWER:
Go to Home Depot…. Loews or any other hardware store.. I really don’t think Wal-Mart would have anything but a hardware store should…

  5. QUESTION:
needing a baby gate that mounts diagnolly?
i have a ten month old daughter who is currently on the verge of walking =D but for my kitchen way i need a baby gate, with our kitchen its diagnal and the one side of the wall is a flat surface but then the other side is cornered off so im having a horrible time trying to find a baby gate that can be placed there! also its about 4 or 5 feet wide…. does anybody have any suggestions on where i can find a pressure tight gate!!?? please help
we do rent our place that we are at so i really dont want to damage the walls in any way thats why i was curious as to a pressure gate instead of putting screw holes in the wall? thanks so far you guys =]

  6. QUESTION:
What is a good baby gate for the bottom of the stairs?
We have one made by The First Years at the top of the stairs that has a swinging door and a foot pedal to open it. We bought two of those but when we tried to put the second one at the bottom of the stairs it was too tall. The wall with the banister wasn’t tall enough to secure one of the top corners. Now I want a gate with a swinging door for safety reasons like not stepping over a gate while going up/down the stairs while holding my son. But I need one that is the height of the normal pressure gates. Also because of how the wall is set up we can’t screw it into the wall and it has weird baseboards and stuff so it has to have the adjustable corners. Like the one at the top of the stairs in all four corners you screw out the mount until it meets the wall… does that make sense?

    • ANSWER:
Uhm…I am just 14.5 and putting this out there…but, you should really go to Babies R Us and ask someone there.
I know they have baby gates, because…well, it’s a baby store.

We’ve had a baby gate for our dog, but it didn’t have a swinging door…

I tried looking at some, and I found some, but they are kind of…pricey..which is weird…because…well, just because prices for plastic and wood shouldn’t be this high…oh well.

  7. QUESTION:
How can I get heat to my basement without leaving the door open?
I have an older model pellet stove that heats the house, with corner fans in some of the doorways to circulate the air. The problem is that if I need to keep the basement door shut because of the baby. I don’t want to put a baby gate up and leave the door open because it blocks the hallway. There are no vents or heat ducts in the house. How else can I get the heat from my pellet stove to the basement?
Putting the pellet stove in the basement is a good idea, but I’m looking for a less expensive solution.

Putting a space heater in the basement will use too much electricity.

    • ANSWER:
the easiest way would be to put a vented door with a corner fan overhead to pull air through vent….some mobile homes came with this kind of door to shut in front of furnaces..or you could just buy a 24 inch square vent and cut out hole in part of the top half of door for it ..then put corner fan in stairway to pull/push air downstairs..

  8. QUESTION:
What sized cage is needed for a Dutch Rabbit?
I know that Dutch Rabbits are a smaller breed, not Dwarf, but prety small, right? Anyway, I have my rabbit, Clover, in a 2x2x2 ferret cage with no ledges/shelves/whatever. In her cage is her food bowl, her hay rack/saltwheel combo that I made from half inch mesh chicken wire (I cut (2) 2×3 inch holes in it for her to get the hay out) also, 3 small tossing and chewing toys, her resting platform (her cage doesn’t have a wire bottom or anything, but I noticed that she would dig a hole in the aspen bedding and lay on the bare cage floor, so I pout the platform in there so I didn’t have to keep emptying shavings from her food bowl and sweeping the floor. There is also a 3 sided corner hammock that she likes to stand on. I haven’t started working on litter training her yet (I got her a week and 3 days ago, so I am giving her time to get really comfortable with my house first) I can’t let her out very often because we have cats and dogs and they can all jump over the baby gate into my room.
I do not have a basement, I do wish she could have more time out, I have built a small cardboard playpen so I can let her out in the living room, but the problem is that everytime I want to let her out in any area of the house I have to lock all 4 of our dogs and all 3 cats in the tiny bathroom (6×8 ft roughly) It wouldn’t really be a problem, since the dogs are all dachshunds and one yorkie, but the dogs howl and bark nonstop and you can hear it anywhere in my house and the noise scares clover so she doesn’t want to come out of her hiding house. I know my cats would be mean to her because one of them (The youngest) reaches through the bars of her cage and tries to grab her, I try to stop him everytime nhe does it, but I can’t sit in my room all day to make sure he doesn’t do it, he even does it at night to my rat as well. My other cat is an avid hunter and has killed wild baby bunnies and squirrels before. The dogs are all of the hunting or vermin kiling type.
I really love her, she is such a spunky little girl, she is constantly boxing my hand/the toys away when I play with her with her toys. She is happy most of the time because she binkies alot, but she sems really bored when I am not playing with her. When I get a new apartment or something after college, I wil not have any problem at all because then all I’ll have is the two cats (can be locked in the bathroom easily) my ferret who can stay in his cage when she’s out and my rat who honestly doesn’t care about anything but her food. I don’t have an issue with my ferret being out because it seems that the cats are more afraid of him than he is even slightly aware that they exsist. I have to watch the dogs though, but he does a good job against them too, I just have to referee, but a rabbit doesn’t really stand much chance against all those teeth….
I play with her serveral times during the da;y, but she has to stay in the cage when I do it, I toss her TP roll around in front of her and she tosses ittonto a different spot, I wiggle her stuffed bone toy in front of her nose and she boxes it out of my hands and I shake her jug toy I made for her in front of her and she either boxes it or tries to get it out of my hands to toss it, depending on her mood. We play: in the mornings for about 15 minutes, after I fill her food bowl and hay rack for a few minutes until she get’s hungry and goes to eat, wafter I change her bedding she get’s especially frisky and wants to play for around 15 -20 more minutes, and then often I play with her/give her a treat and pet her for about 10 minutes at night before bed. I don’t have a problem with interacting with her, I would love to have her out with me all day every day if I could, I am just so concerned for her safety around my families other pets I am too scared to risk her getting attacked.

    • ANSWER:
I don’t know what your living arrangements are, of course, if you live in a house or an apartment, but give your new bunny the largest cage you can fit. My bunnies are outside for the summer/early fall in giant cages, but when they come back inside (until I move into my new home w/ an actual state-of-the-art bunny room) they’ll live in the basement in corrals, the smallest of which is 7 feet by 4 feet & holds about 4 bunnies. Someties I’ll give them the run of the basement for the afternoon or evening, they love to go exploring & really run around. I hate to see anything in a cage per say, I mean, can you imagine living nearly full time in a space say the size of an average bathroom? Is there any chance that Clover could be put into a similar set up, in a basement or someplace? In time try slowly introducing the cats & bunny, my cats couldn’t give a rats behind about the bunnies, I’ve even had cats who were kind of afraid of them. I know my current dog would make a meal of them, but my last dog was pretty good w/ them. Please make sure that your new friend gets at least an hour out of her cage & lots of attention & affection from you every day. Enjoy & love your new bunny!

Picking The Best Baby Hair Care Product

Author: lisa lucero

When your baby is first born, they usually do not have much hair and so you will not have to worry so much about having to find a baby hair care product. However, as they get older and their hair gets longer, this will be an issue and certainly by the time they are a couple of months old you will want to be using a baby hair care product regularly on their hair to keep it clean and shiny.

If you want to get a baby hair care product, you should know that there is a wealth of options to choose from. There are so many different companies offering baby care products including baby hair care products, and there are even tons of people who make their own baby hair care products at home and then sell them.

You can check out your local drugstore if you want to find a baby hair care product, but there are a few companies in particular that will be worth your time here.

Original Sprout is a great choice, and they offer a full lineup of baby care products, whether you are looking for hair, skin, or even styling products for your baby or child. Their prices are also very competitive which is nice because as all parents know, babies are already costly enough without having to spend a fortune on their hair care products.

Johnson’s Baby is another of the top picks for hair care products, and whatever your child’s hair type, they have a shampoo and conditioner that will leave it looking shiny and healthy. Their Johnson’s No More Tangles shampoo + conditioner is especially favorable and it is specially formulated to gently cleanse and detangle duplicate strands of hair.

To use you simply wet your baby’s hair with warm water and then gently massage a small amount of shampoo into her delicate scalp. You want to use this mild shampoo during bath time to clean your baby’s hair and scalp and gently detangle little locks.

Go Natural

One of the best things that you can do is choose to go all natural, and use only a natural baby hair care product, just as you would with a natural baby skin care product for instance. This way you know that all the ingredients are natural and safe to use on baby, and that their hair and skin will not be irritated as a result of using the product.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Which brand is the best to use for baby safety?
I’m trying to stop my little one from opening doors, and drawers. I have the brand safety first, using their cabinet
& drawer latches, and the ones with the tension release strap, but i find the sticky stuff holding them in place, just fails…everytime. I sick of wasting money on a product that doesn’t work. What can I use to stop my child opening drawers, cupboards, shower doors……if you know something that definately works let me know..

    • ANSWER:
I believe I have the same kind of cabinet locks and you are supposed to screw them in. The adhesive tape on them is so they stay in place while you screw them into the cabinet.

If you have cabinet doors with the handle together, I suggest just getting the slide locks. They had them that looked like a U shape and you just slid the end on and then pushed buttons on the top and bottom to slide them off. I cant find them anymore though :( BUT now they have these ones that look like a diamond and 2 zip tie looking things that you loop through the center diamond piece… they are mommy proof too though LOL! I bought both of these at walmart.

For the doors, they have door knob covers at walmart too. OR you can buy a gate and not let him or her in the kitchen and close the bathroom door…

  2. QUESTION:
Too young to have a baby?
First off, let me make it clear that I am NOT planning on having a child right away (it will probably be at least five more years before I start trying); this question is solely out of curiosity! That said, let me explain my situation a bit. Here’s what you need to know:

I am 20 years old. My boyfriend is 23 (closer to 24) years old.

He and I have been in a wonderful, steady relationship for two years. We get along well, and very, very rarely argue. We’re very compatible, and absolutely in love.

We plan to get married soon after graduating from college.

We live together in an apartment with our kitty. We’ve lived together for about nine months, and we love it.

We both attend school full time at the University of Washington.

I am an Early Childhood and Family Studies major, and a philosophy minor. I also have a background in psychology.

I plan to work as a professional nanny until I have my own child, at which point I would like to be a stay-at-home mom if money allows. This will likely be a feasible option, as the career my boyfriend is planning on getting into pays roughly ,000 to 0,000 a year.

I have worked as a nanny for over three years, for children of ALL ages (from birth to thirteen), and I love every age range. This has given me lots of experience taking care of children (yes, including diaper changes and tantrums) and I love every minute of it. I’m very good with kids.

I also read up about childcare and child development CONSTANTLY. I’m even subscribed to several parenting magazines. I know all about childcare, health and safety, the best baby products, milestones (and how to help a baby reach them), styles of parenting (I most closely identify with attachment parenting), birth, breastfeeding, emotional development – the list goes on and on and on.

We both really want one child. We have baby names picked out, we know exactly what we want the nursery to look like, we know which baby products we want, we know which values we want to pass on to our child, etc., etc., etc. We even have ideas for traditions we want to pass on or start as a family.

My boyfriend and I are NOT really into “partying.” We’re not the typical college students who like to drink and go clubbing – we’re not into doing the things people typically mean when they say “take this time to be young.” We like hanging out at home and just being together, and we enjoy dreaming of and planning our future. We’re extremely responsible, financially and otherwise (we’ve never been late on a single bill, if we use credit cards we pay them COMPLETELY off at the end of every month, we save money for the future, etc.). We’re intelligent and educated. We’re laid-back, low-key, and stable. And we have a lot of love to give!

I want a baby more than anything in the world – I wake up thinking about it most days. I can’t wait to be a mom and I love my future baby already. But I know that part of loving my baby is giving it the best life possible – which, for me, means waiting a few years until we’re both done with school, we’re married, we have a 2+ bedroom house, we have more money to spend, etc.

HOWEVER, I think about being a mom all the time, and I always wonder what it would be like in my current situation. This has left me extremely curious as to what people would think if I had a child. This is where you come in! Please answer the following questions:

    1) If you DID know my situation (if you just skipped down to this question, please read what I wrote above to learn more about my situation), what would you think of my boyfriend and I having a baby? Would you think we were too young? Too inexperienced? Too irresponsible?

    2) If you did NOT know my situation, what would you think? (Imagine you just saw a two people, who appeared to be about 20 and 23/24, with a baby. You knew nothing else about them.) Too young? Too inexperienced? Too irresponsible?

    3) How long do you think we should wait to have a baby? What would you do if you were in our situation?

    4) Do you think we will make good parents when the time comes?

    5) Any other comments you’d like to make? I’d love to hear what you think!

I know this was a very long question, so thank you for bearing with me. I’m dying to know what people think. Please do answer! I’d really appreciate it. :] Thanks!
There are a few things I’d like to clarify, since people have been mentioning them:

    1) I DO plan to wait until we’re both finished with school.

    2) I DO plan to wait until we’re married. And, yes, we DO plan to get married.

    3) I HAVE talked about it with my boyfriend, and we ARE on the same page about everything.

    4) I know about the litter box thing, and my boyfriend would do the scooping when I got pregnant. (Actually, by the time I get pregnant, I hope to have my cat using the toilet – we almost had him trained already!) My cat is a purebred, healthy indoor cat with no diseases or health issues, so hopefully that wouldn’t be an issue.
    5) Believe me, I do NOT only want the child when he or she is a baby! The only reason I kept using the term “baby” is because I was referring to a time relatively soon after birth (i.e. when I have the child, or when you hypothetically see a young couple with a newborn). I’m very excited for all ages and stages! I can’t wait to see my child grow up.

    • ANSWER:
      Hey!

I am 20 in two weeks and I too can’t wait to have a baby. But I am counting down the days until I am old enough and financially stable to have one.

      1. Considering your situation you sound like you would be a great mother. I mean, there are 35 year olds who are still not mature enough to have babies but still do.

      2. 20/24 is not an uncommon age to have a baby. It is actually a good time to have a baby. The only reason it is really ‘out of fashion’ is because people usually do not have money by then or are still young and like to party. If you were 17, I would be saying something completely different.

      3. Personally I want to have a baby when I am around 25. Because by then I would have saved enough to have my own house, finished my degree and have worked a few years to build up some money. That is the only thing really holding me back, money. And the fact that non of my friends have babies and I would really like my children to be brought up with other children around them.

      4. Sounds like you would make a lovely mother. You have more knowledge about kids than most mothers. Not every mother has studied child care, though some seriously should have to complete some kind of parenting course before they can be parents.

      5. Waiting for that day to come is hard. The way I see it, every day that I work, every day that I study, is a step closer to having everything set up the way I want it for by baby. I would hate to have one now and not be able to have the nursery the way I want, or all the toys and books I want to get for my baby. Or the freedom and stability to be a stay at home mum. So it is better in the long run, if I wait.

      Good luck :)

  3. QUESTION:
What’s the best name brand maker for children out of these?
    Graco
    Eddie Bauer
    Disney
    Baby Eienstein
    Safety 1st
    Evenflo

Or if you know of one better let me know and why. I’m having my first child and I’m looking to buy products that has had the least recalls, best for durability and lasting, safe for children, and handy for parents. Which name brand is best?

    • ANSWER:
I think you’ll find that each product, and each category, has different safety ratings. We went with the highest safety rating at the best price, and had a Graco infant seat and an Evenflo convertible seat. As far as other products go, they will run the gamut. There’s not one manufacturer that does everything the best. Check out Consumer Reports and read reviews on Amazon when you’re shopping for an item.

  4. QUESTION:
Best brand of breast milk storage bags?
What kind of milk storage bags do you like? I have been using Lansinoh and they work fine, but I am running out and need to buy more. I was thinking of getting these “easy pour” ones http://store.babycenter.com/product/safety+-+baby+care/easy+pour+milk+storage+bags.do? – has anyone tried these? I think I tried Medela in the beginning and they leaked. I need to freeze them, so they need to be sturdy. Thanks for your thoughts!

    • ANSWER:
I have to agree with Tanya – use bags that are made specifically for breast milk only – you know they are sterile, they are made FOR breast milk so they are the right thickness, they have the measurements mL/oz right on the bag. Also do NOT reuse them, they are not THAT expensive, I think rinsing them and reusing them could lead to problems and if you’re putting soap in there, you may not get all of it out which could cause your child to have diarrhea and could make the milk taste different.

Okay, so I’ve used Gerber and Lansinoh. I prefer the Lansinoh bags because they can be frozen flat, it makes them sooo easy to store and organize. I have a large supply of frozen milk and it was getting difficult and time consuming sorting through them trying to find the oldest bags first. So, now I freeze them flat, and I can stand them upright in a plastic bin in the freezer and they are already in order. The Lansinoh bags also have an easy pour spout, turn the bag side ways (flat part facing ceiling) and squeeze the two edges together and they make a nice pour spout. They are also very well priced – 50 qt. for .99 at our local Target.

      Good luck :)

  5. QUESTION:
What is the best baby monitor?
Hi parents. I would like to know which baby monitor has worked the best for you. We have an almost 3 month old & 3 year old. I had a perfectly fine monitor for my first child. But I seemed to have lost the parent receiver. I believe it was by Safety 1st.
We don’t live in a big house (although we plan on moving this summer). Right now we are living in a duplex, so I would expect interference.
Baby has always been in the same room as me so I haven’t needed a monitor. She will soon be moving into a crib & I will need to hear her.
We don’t have a whole lot of money, but if someone swears by the product, we will consider it.
I would perfer the kind that can clip on to the crib.
If you know of one that is cheap, but has a few cons, that’s ok too. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
the sounds and lights one works great for most people. i used to work at babies r us and that was the most commonly sold one. it really depends on what area you live in, but still, the sounds and lights is good. that’s the one i have and love it. you can turn the sound off, but still see when the baby cries.

  6. QUESTION:
What baby product companies do you like?
Just curious what companies you like best…either like their products or find the company easy to deal with if you had any problems? I really like Evenflo stuff and I find both Playtex and Baby Einstein are great if you have a problem. Playtex replaced my leaky bottle nipples with no problems and Baby Einstein sent me a replacement top for my daughters mat when hers broke and I got it the next day! I however find Safety First is a pain…I requested info about a replacement canopy for my daughters stroller and its been over a week and I haven’t heard from them and I found the people at Huggies to be very rude. What companies do you like? Have you had any problems with companies?
Yeah Graco is pretty good too…I love their Pack N Play

    • ANSWER:
I had to contact first years about my breast pump dying after 4 months of use. The warranty was only for 90 days but I called anyways and they ended up replacing my pump with no cost to me. But I hated that pump anyway so I had already bought a medela and so I just sold the new one. But I am pleased that they replaced it even out of warranty.

  8. QUESTION:
Anyone else get just the tiniest feeling of satisfaction when…?
I know it’s awful but does anyone else besides me get just the tiniest feeling of glee when one of those outrageously expensive and super trendy baby products gets recalled for safety reasons? I live in CT and there’s a shopping area not far from me where all the snobby SAHMs stroll along with their 700-1200 dollar strollers, babies all dolled up in Janie and Jack or whatever All-organic trendy boutique outfit they found, etc. They sit at Starbucks and chat about how they have already filled out applications for thier 3 month olds to attend the best pre-schools around, blah-blah-blah…

Don’t get me wrong, I think a lot of expensive baby things are very nice. I would certainly buy all organic clothing and specail cloth diapers (but not at a pop) if I could afford them… but it’s the way they carry the babies around like a fashion accessory and look down on someone who can’t afford to spend on an all organic outfit for their child to outgrow in a month!

I believe in doing what I can for the environment and my priority is keeping my 8 month old daughter happy and healthy. I make her foods at home from scratch and use organic whole grains and fruits and veggies but I do it for her health, not to tell my snobby friends I am doing it. (Besides it ends up saving me money in the long run, LOL.

So… anyway, back to my point… every once in a while it’s just so satisfying to see one of their super trendy strollers or something like that get a big recall. Anyone else feel this way? And no, it’s not a jeallousey thing. I was raised to spend wisely and to appreciate what I have. I’m not poor but I am a single mother and I watch my money.

    • ANSWER:
Yeh. My mum bought Soph a Tutti Bambini cot bed, along with the spring mattress it cost £250 all in – it was her baby gift to us.

My BF cousin, bought the most beautifil oval cots, with 2 sets of all matching bedding. It had the drapes over it and it was just stunning. I think it topped about £6-700.

They were always very quick to flash pics of their daughter in it, she is 2 weeks younger than soph. Then it got recalled.

And I was sooooo tempted to say, well, my ”cheap tat” is still standing, where’s your trendy cot now?

Bath Time Safety

Author: IC

Bath time can and should be one of the most enjoyable times of the day for parents and children; a perfect opportunity to bond and relax with baby. But once baby has moved into the big tub, the big shiny faucet and warm streaming water can be too much to resist, despite mom and dad’s repeated warnings. So how can parents ensure that bath time is safe, enjoyable and relaxing for everyone? A few precautionary measures go a long way.

Stay in Touch

The single most important action that a parent must take each time a bath is given is touch supervision. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), touch supervision requires that an adult be within arm’s reach of baby at all times. If you cannot touch your baby at any time during the bath, then you are too far away.

Nationally, drowning is the third leading cause of injury-related deaths in children younger than one and the second leading cause of injury-related deaths in children ages one to four. In fact, young children can drown in less than two inches of water, according to AAP’s Injury Prevention Program (TIPP). Drowning frequently occurs quickly and quietly, in the amount of time it would take a parent to take or make a phone call. Regardless of the intended time of absence, a parent must never leave baby unattended in the tub at any time for any reason. Very simply, touch supervision saves lives. No gizmo or gadget will prevent drowning or substitute for the adult supervision that can.

Keep Your Distance

The second most important action a parent must take is to protect baby from the faucet and fixtures. According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, 5,000 children a year require emergency room treatment for tap water burns. The AAP warns that the bathtub is a source of severe scalding burns. In addition to burns, contact with the faucet can cause injuries resulting in stitches, bumps, bruises, scrapes and even chipped teeth. The Center for Injury Research and Policy at Columbus Children’s Hospital found that 75 percent of kids under age five who were hurt in the tub were being supervised at the time.

When selecting safety products for the bath, avoid products that will attract a baby. Bright colors, shiny materials, and happy animals will all draw babies towards them, despite their intended safety purpose.

In addition to touch supervision and the right safety products, parents should also take the following precautions when bathing baby:

- Set water heater to 120 degrees or less.

- Check water temperature on the inside of your wrist before placing baby in the bath.

- Place a rubber mat or non-slip appliquA©s on the bottom of the tub.

- Have bathing supplies, clothes and towels already assembled prior to baby’s bath.

- Always bathe baby using as little water as necessary.

- Do not allow other children to substitute for adult supervision.

With the right preparation, precaution and products, bath time can be less struggle and more fun.

We used ours from 4 months to just before 13 months for our slow sitter.

i now have a shower only bathroom and would like advice on the biggest bath i can find for a baby can anyone recommend something other than the regular baby tubs.

  3. QUESTION:
For people who already have had a baby :] Do I have everything I need?
My baby boy is due in May, here’s a list of what I have so far, am I missing anything?

.Clothes (onsies, sleepers, socks, mittens, sweaters, pants, hats, soft shoes)
    .Blankets, bath towels, wash cloths

    .Stroller
    .Diaper bag (already packed :])

Am I forgetting anything? I thinks that’s everything..

    Thanks :]
Oh yeah the baby carrier, I almost forgot! Thanks :]

    • ANSWER:
I agree with everything Arlene G said. It sounds like you have pretty much everything covered for the baby so don’t forget about yourself. This is coming from experience because no one even told me to take any of those things for myself. My poor husband was always having to run to the store for extra things.

I would suggest bringing something to keep all the paperwork in. You will have lots and it’s so easy to just put them in one place so you aren’t worried about losing or forgetting them.

Also have some healthy snacks for when the baby comes home because I know I wasn’t able to eat for more than 5 mins at a time :) . Escpecially because she had colic.

You might want to get some baby gas drops just in case.

And this is a personal choice but I now have a wrap for the baby and wish I had looked into them sooner so maybe you could check out those. But other than that it seems as if you are all set. Congratulations!

  4. QUESTION:
What would you recommend for bathing a 6 month old?
He no longer fit on his tub, I got one of those safety first chairs,(this one: http://shop.parents.com/product/bath-safety/5553/safety-first-tubside-bath-seat.html) but what I hate is that you have to fill the whole bath tub and it wastes too much water, also it is kinda uncomfortable, hard, cold and the baby can only sit up.

What else is there and what are other alternatives?

    thanks in advance…

    • ANSWER:
we have this and I like it.

      http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3331853&CAWELAID=295754954

it’s pretty big, it’s recommended until age 2, and it’s soft. we did have my son in the regular tub from birth (on a big bath sponge) but he began hating it around 6 months. try the regular tub and then if that doesn’t work or if you don’t feel comfortable, try a blow up tub.

  5. QUESTION:
    Bathing an older baby?
My daughters 7.5 months old and has outgrown her baby bath tubs so at Christmas I went and bought her the munchkin inflatable duck tub

    http://www.munchkin.com/products/detail.html?section=prodCategories&ID=10000&pID=168

It has been great, but now that she knows how to pull up she has taken to trying to use the inflatable sides to stand up which of course can’t support her weight and she ends up nearly hitting her head on the side of the bath tub

So I’ve herd great comments about the safety first Tubside bath seat

    http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp?productId=2857180&cp=2582924.2582927.2582927&parentPage=family

So I bought it today and read the instructions and it said it wasn’t suitable for a baby who could pull up, I figured it wouldn’t be that big of a deal and came to use it……only to find out my stupid bathtub edge is too big and the retractable arm won’t sit on the edge of my bath tub (so back to walmart I go tommorrow to return it)

So now I hear about these bath tub rings I come to look them up at stores in my area and you can’t buy them anymore. I’m guessing to too many neglectful parents and too many deaths because of them

    http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41VK4FG295L._SL500_AA280_.jpg

So anyways I have found some used ones in the area and just wondering if they have the same precaution of if a baby can pull itself up they can’t use it anymore

Also what have you done if you didn’t use the rings or baths? I tried to bath her with nothing and she was slipping and sliding everywhere and I even have slip grooves built into my bath tub…should I get the suction cup ones from the store to reduce the slippage?

Just wondering what other people have done, and it’s not an option to let my daughter stand to get bathed as I don’t want it to become a habit for when she is older and become a slip hazard! I’ve fallen backwards in the bathtub and hit the back of my head on the faucet when I was 3 and from what I’ve herd from my mother it wasn’t a fun experiance

I do have a detachable shower head which has been great and fun lol

    • ANSWER:
Lilah is 8 months and I was using her infant tub until about a month ago. Now when I give her a bath in the evening, I just get in with her and kind of set her between my legs so she doesn’t slip over. She loves it. She plays with her Rubber duckies while I bathe her all whilst managing to splash water all over the place! lol….I find it much easier than the infant tub. Plus it’s a nice bonding time =)…..

I have yet to purchase a mat, but it’s something I am going to do soon….I think it would help alot.

  7. QUESTION:
    retailers recall Simplicity bassinets ?
WASHINGTON – Eleven more retailers have recalled Simplicity bassinets, bringing the total to 17 that have decided to recall the infant beds, which are linked to the deaths of two babies

The Consumer Product Safety Commission said Wednesday that 11 additional retailers are pulling from their shelves the “close-sleeper/bedside sleeper” bassinets because the products pose a strangulation hazard. Those retailers include AAFES, Amazon.com LLC, Bed Bath and Beyond/BuyBuyBaby, Burlington Coat Factory, Chelsea & Scott LTD (OneStepAhead), CSN Stores, Fingerhut Direct Marketing, Kohl’s Department Stores, ShopKo Stores Inc., Sweet Pea Decor, and six stores of USA Baby.

The agency first announced on Aug. 28 that Wal-Mart Stores Inc., Toys “R” Us Inc., Kmart Corp., Big Lots, Target, J.C. Penney have recalled the products. The recall affects nearly 900,000 bassinets.

In recalling the Simplicity 3-in-1 and 4-in-1 convertible bassinets, the retailers have agreed to provide a refund or store credit to consumers who return the product to the store where they purchased it, CPSC said.

A 6-month-old girl from Shawnee, Kan., was strangled on Aug. 21 when she became trapped between the bassinet’s metal bars. In September 2007, a 4-month-old girl from Noel, Mo., became trapped in the bassinet’s metal bars and died.

The Simplicity bassinets have metal bars spaced farther apart than federal standards allow. Julie Vallese, a CPSC spokeswoman, said consumers can tell if their Simplicity bassinet is recalled if it has removable fabric that is fastened by Velcro.

SFCA Inc., the company that purchased the assets of Reading, Pa.-based Simplicity Inc. earlier this year, has refused to recall the products. SFCA maintains that it is not responsible for products previously manufactured by Simplicity.

  8. QUESTION:
im doing a speech on why the FDA should regulate personal care prouducts and i need more information help!?!?
so this is wht i have so far:
Do you think that major businesses would avoid putting there customers in dangers way, when they would make lots of money even by doing so? I don’t! For example, just look at are tobacco companies. Every year many people die from using there products. Yet they continue to sell and produce there products because there making millions from it. Did you know that your cosmetics and personal care products aren’t even regulated by the FDA before they are sold to you? The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health discovered that 884 out of the 2,983 chemicals available to be used in cosmetics alone have been reported as toxic substances to the government. If the FDA doesn’t start regulating these products then just think about it that’s millions of people everyday that are putting themselves in danger of serious harmful conditions. There are statistics and sceneries that prove that cosmetics are a danger to the pubic. And proof that the FDA dose not regulate cosmetics nor do they make very many efforts to warn you or the dangers.
One of the main reasons the FDA should regulate personal care products is the FDA website directly quotes that: “Cosmetic products and ingredients are not subject to pre market approval authority, with exception of color additives. However, FDA may pursue enforcement action against violative products or against firms or individuals who violate the law.” The FDA also states that: “Cosmetic firms are responsible for sustaining the safety of their products and ingredients before marketing failure to adequately substantiate the safety of a cosmetic product or its ingredients prior to marketing causes the product to misbranded unless the following warning statement appears conspicuously on the principal display panel of the products label: warning –the safety of this product has not been determined.” Their for because the FDA dose not regulate cosmetics and other personal care products just by using the products you are putting yourself in danger of cancer, genetic damage, and other serious conditions. Cosmetics include: baby powder, bubble bath, toothpaste, deodorants, shaving cream, hair tonics, hairsprays, colognes, sun tan lotions, mouth washes, baby shampoo, hand lotions, shampoo, conditioner, hair dyes, moisturizing cream, and many other products. Americans think these products are safe. But this confidence is too unjustified. Our public wants and demands higher standards of protection. This protection has been established for drugs, medical devices, and food additives but not for cosmetics. The Cosmetic industries want people to believe that no effective regulation of cosmetics is necessary at state or federal level. The FDA doesn’t even do much, to protect or warn women when it comes to the danger of using femine hygiene products. Not only have that but the legislation prohibited states from taking action as well.
Cosmetics are under-regulated and too often hazardous. Here are just a couple examples of people that found this out the hard way: A 59 year old woman almost died from a allergic reaction she had to hair dye. Another woman of age47 had her cornea destroyed by a mascara wand. A 6 year old girl and her mother used air product that resulted in second degree burns on her ears and neck! As result of using a inflammable hair treatmfgbfgytjjjyjyjtjhhnnnhjnjhjjjmmmmjkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk……..zzs very scarred. Other examples of injures that cosmetics can result in are: pain and tissue damage, sores, eye infection, cancer, blindness, eye problems such as; rash, redness, swelling, and inflammation. And the list goes on and on. For every one million cosmetics products purchased there are 200 more visits to a doctor to treat cosmetic-caused illnesses.
A study for consumer product safety commission in 1987 found that in 1 year alone, cosmetic products result in 47,000 emergency room visits. Between 1985 and 1987 more then 150,000 cosmetic related injures occurred. One third of chemicals used in cosmetics are toxic. More then 125 ingredients that are in cosmetics are suspected to be the cause of cancer. 20 cosmetic ingredients may affect the nervous system; this includes headaches, drowsiness, and convulsions. Birth defects are suspected to be cause by another 20 cosmetic ingredients. The GAO concluded that: “cosmetics are being marketed in the united states which may pose a serious hazard to the public.”
I believe that the cosmetic companies should be regulated by the FDA. To make
The likeliness of a person becoming injured less. And reduce the number of visits to the emergency room because of cosmetic related injures.

i need a 10 minute long speech for my speech and debate class and this isnt long enough i know i need to deosite all my statistics(which r in one paragraph right now) but i ineed more information….everywhere i look its the same old stuff so can someone please help me get a few more paragaphs and stuff so i can be

Essential Baby Bathing and Bath Time Equipment

By Declan Tobin

*Baby bathing and bath time is a fun way of bonding with your baby. Babies love the water and will grow to love bath time as their favourite time of the day*

The essentials for baby bath time are a small baby bath which is portable, a changing table that changes into a bathing area or a bathing chair for an adult bath, baby toiletries, towelling robe baby brush. The first time parents try to bath their baby it can be a little daunting and frightening as the small bundle of joy is so helpless and venerable. A small bath that can be placed in the warmest room of the house especially in winter is a must have. Traditionally moms would bath babies in front of an open fire in a small bath tub, or in the kitchen sink depending on which room was warmest.

Baby Bath Safety

Author: richardjames

Safety rules are pretty strict concerning children play in pools, lakes, and oceans. Many parents are wise enough to keep a close watch over their precious offspring when

they are in outside water areas. However, the number one reason for deaths in children between the ages of one and four is drowning. Not only in outside pools but in

bathtubs as well. Following baby bath safety rules will keep bath time fun and effective.

When you think of childproofing your home, baby bath safety is not the first thing that comes to mind. Most parents do not consider baby bath safety because usually when

a child is taking a bath, they are under the direct supervision of an adult. However, supervision does not always prevent accidents from happening.Anyone who has children

knows and can tell you that children are totally unpredictable and prone to accidents with or without supervision. This is why there are certain precautions that should be

taken for bathtime safety.

It doesn’t take a lot of water to harm a baby. They don’t understand that water can drown them and don’t know to hold their breath if they fall underwater. For this reason,

you need to make sure that you have everything needed for bath time with in arm’s reach, including baby.A great tool is a tub that is shaped like a bucket. It was made to

imitate the womb experience for the baby. It give the baby a snug fit on the sides and they sit in the fetal position. This helps the baby feel like they are in their natural

environment, which make them feel safe.

Tip 1 – If you are intending to use your own bath for washing your baby in then it is a good idea to put a slip proof mat or even some towels into the bath on which your

baby can be placed. But if you can afford to there are baby bath chairs that can be purchased which allow the baby to sit comfortably in the bath whilst being washed.

Tip 2 – To ensure that the temperature of the water is right for your baby not too hot or too cold there are several things as new parents that you can do. You can either test

the temperature of the water using the traditional method of dipping your elbow or wrist into the water as your mother would have done. The other way is to purchase a

special thermometer which changes colour when the water temperature is correct.

Tests done by a leading group in safe cosmetics state that in over 60 percent of bath products for kids have a couple of hazardous chemicals that are linked to serious health

conditions. There aren’t any strict regulations for the amount of use in these products. Even though they are identified as potential cancer causing agents. At the very least,

they can cause serious skin allergies. The labels may state that they are gentle and safe, but they aren’t, more toxins can be absorbed through the skin than ingesting tainted food and water.

Its a good bathseat as long as shes not pulling to stand. It doesnt have height or weight requirements on it at all so its really just till they can pull themselves out of it. 5. QUESTION:
whats the best & largest baby bath for the shower only bathroom?
i now have a shower only bathroom and would like advice on the biggest bath i can find for a baby can anyone recommend something other than the regular baby tubs.

  7. QUESTION:
how do you bath an infant baby?
how do you bath an infant baby like tips safety tips things you should use

    • ANSWER:
You can wipe your baby down, it’s not necessary to give them a bath. I was told to give my baby a bath after there umbilical cord falls off.

Shopping for Baby Clothing by Brand

If you consider quality, comfort and style important for your baby, brand names are usually the way to go.  There are hundreds of brands worldwide for you to investigate.  I have picked out a few that you will find in Australia.

Aden + Anais specialise in really soft cuddly muslin which they use for swaddling blankets, wraps, cloths and bibs.  They are generally made from certified organic cotton or bamboo that is grown in a natural and environmentally friendly way.

Although they produce mostly gorgeous dolls and soft toys, Aimrose Designs also have a babies’ line of accessories that includes cot quilts, aprons, handkerchiefs and more than 70 different styles of bibs.

Bluebird & Honey have a unique look to their baby wardrobe.  Their clothes are modern but with just a touch of old world quaintness and great detailing.

Catch the inspiration of 1950′s style French bloomers in Bluebelle’s great collection of underwear.  On children they are cute and comfortable.  They are made of environmentally friendly, organically grown bamboo cotton and deliciously soft to the touch.

From Austria, David Fussenegger’s beautiful soft textiles are best known in the charming baby and children’s wraps and blankets. But they also produce cuddly dressing gowns for small children.  The fabrics are certified free from chemicals that could cause harm to children.

Dwell Studio products are recognisable by their bold, distinctive patterns and subtle, slightly muted colours.  They produce mostly cot and crib accessories but you will find sleeping bags, bibs and aprons too.

Ella & Otto of London, UK, produce baby bedding and accessories. Everything necessary for baby’s bath time and bed time are available in contemporary designs and matching sets.  These include cute pyjamas, sleep suits, sleeping bags, hooded towels and many more.

Old Soles provide shoes designed for the health and comfort of little feet.  They are also very fashionable and stylish.  Pure, soft leather is used with padded leather inners.  The backs are elasticised and non-slip soles assist toddlers in their first unsteady steps.

Pure Baby includes the brand names:

Green to Grow
Nature’s Paradise
Nature’s Baby Organics
Olli Organic

They stress natural, organic living and their baby singlets, body suits, cocoons and outer clothing are soft and gentle against delicate skins.

Although Alphasketti Products consist largely of educational toys, they do produce custom designs on T-shirts, rompers and other clothing.  These are usually printed to order from one of their own designs of your choice, or else from your own design/picture.

Snugglebum is essentially cosy stuff for babies.  They produce day wear and night time wear, with pretty patterns but mostly without unnecessary trimmings.  They emphasise comfort:  warmth without chunkiness in winter and cool freedom in summer.

Elegant Baby specialise in matching outfits, like pants, shirts and hats and clothing for special occasions, such as birthdays, with birthday logos on the fronts of the tops.

Buttermilk Baby clothes are as soft and sweet as they sound.  In gently pastel colours they are designed for easy changing and comfortable sleeping. They are designed with enough length to cover everything warmly and include a delightful sleep nightie that tucks away cold toes with press studs at the bottom hem.  There are also comfortable suits and sets for the warmer months.

Ideal gifts for a new baby

Whether you’re a mum to be or a relative looking to help out, there’s every chance you’ll be trying to work out what baby gifts you can get. Here are a few ideas to help get you started.

Clothes

From vests and sleep suits, through to scratch mitts and socks, babies need clothes. Keeping a baby warm is extremely important, so hats, cardigans and jumpers are all ideal gifts. And remember, babies grow very quickly, so buying clothing that’s for a slightly older baby will be useful before long. Why not be even more thoughtful and buy organic baby clothing, which is fairly traded and use organic textiles?

Skin Care

Whether it is bubble bath, shampoo, baby wipes, cotton wool or baby lotion, it is vitally important babies get excellent skin care. In the early stages of their lives, their skin can be extra sensitive, so make sure you get the products that are right for them. Like with clothes, you could buy them organic skin care products.

Equipment

Every baby is going to need things like cots, cribs, moses baskets, sheets, blankets, towels, high chairs, prams, strollers, and much more besides. They are more the more expensive items, so if buying for a friend’s baby they might fall outside of your budget, but for parents, these represent must-have items.

Toys

Whether they stimulate or offer comfort, toys are the perfect way to welcome a new baby to the world. And as they get older, they’re going to need – and eventually want – more and more! From bath time toys and cuddly characters to mobiles and Loopy Links, there are many toys that will bring the baby enjoyment and help develop their creativity.

Other stuff

From dummies and nappies to bottles and changing mats, the list of baby-related products are endless. Consider visiting a store, either online or in person, to browse the full range of gift ideas for children of all ages.

You’ll find a wide collection of newborn baby gifts, including organic baby clothes.

The first few months of a baby’s life are vital when it comes to development; each and every week provides new milestones to reach and new skills to discover. Online retailer of educational toys DiscoverMe (http://www.discovermetoys.co.uk/) knows that it is important to enlighten baby at every stage in these early weeks and months, which is why it is pleased to stock the excellent Lamaze brand as part of its range of the very best in baby toys.

Lamaze baby toys are designed around the Lamaze Infant Development System, a system developed by US company Learning Curve in collaboration with psychologists at Yale University. Based on the psychology of early child development, a three stage developmental system was identified: “awakening the senses”, “exploring and experimenting” and “moving and doing”. This breakdown is not unlike the Early Years Foundation Stage, the development system recognised in the UK, in that it seeks to stimulate core skills through play during clearly defined stages of early development.

Once the three stages of the Lamaze Infant Development System were identified, the Lamaze range of toys was designed to specifically develop baby’s skills in the three key areas. All Lamaze baby toys are fun and friendly characters in gorgeously plush fabrics and bright and cheerful colours, however each one is very different when it comes to its role in ‘play and learn’. Some are musical toys which “awaken the senses” with sound as well as with kaleidoscope colours and a tactile mix of textures. Others promote “exploring and experimenting” through mirrors, bells and rings for baby’s fingers to find and explore; while others are activity toys which help to encourage “moving and doing” with interactive features such as bath-time games and activity playmats.

Central to the Lamaze way of thinking is that playing with the right toy at the right time will enlighten baby at every key developmental stage. This enlightenment makes playtime more than just fun, but an essential learning experience. Enter the Lamaze world of fun and enlightenment at Discover me: go to http://www.discovermetoys.co.uk/.
