Bringing up a child can be a nightmare in a less-than-hygienic world, but at what point does cleanliness and safety consciousness transcend the boundaries of sanity?
1. Toad stool :
Your child will definitely find this stool hilarious. You can put everything within reach for your little ones on this frog-theme stool. When your child steps or sits on the stool, it croaks. Teeth brushing time will become a little more fun when your child steps on this stool.
2. Potty Mitts :
Have a phobia that your children might catch diseases from unknown sources in public places? Water-resistant Potty Mitts are sure to change your life and your outlook.
In addition to keeping your kids free of germs, these revolutionary disposable gloves are small enough to fit into a handbag or diaper bag. A must for those visiting less-than-clean environs, but make sure you don’t flush them down the toilet; they’re not flush-able.
3. Poop Scoop Bag :
One for really hard-core greenies in keeping with current trends to cut down waste and keep in tune with natural rhythms. The idea is to monitor Baby’s bowel movements, and, instead of clothing them in diapers, let them do their thing whenever and wherever they please.
The trick is to always have your 100% bio-degradable ‘baby poop scoop’ bag at hand to ensure their waste doesn’t become the planet’s.
4. Monkey Bottle Hugger :
Monkey see, monkey do! Use this adorable baby’s bottle cover to keep the bottle contents at a constant temperature and prevent condensation. The expandable elastic mouthpiece fits all bottles and sip cups and keeps it from falling out of Baby’s mouth. The furry cover ensures that your child has an easy, comfortable grip at the same time.
5. Pee Pee Bottle:
An ingenious solution for those frequent tight moments when you’re nowhere near a toilet or natural spot, My Pee Pee bottle is as effective for adults as it is for children when it comes to needing a compact, portable space to relieve yourself.
Designed to replace public toilet seat covers, it is leak- and odour-proof and great if you’re on the move, but critics point out that, though it comes in pink and blue, its lack of transparency could detract from its functionality.
6. Baby knee pads:
Here’s an easy way to keep your baby happy while crawling. Your baby will never suffer from grazed, bruised, red and sore knees with these knee pads. There is no need to worry on which floor your baby is crawling inside or outside.
You can easily put the pads with the help of Velcro straps behind baby’s knees to keep them in place. The pads provide maximum protection without restricting the movement and circulation when your baby hits the knees against furniture.
7. Thudguard Helmet:
A UK-derived safety device to help cushion your toddler from banging their head too hard when they fall or collide, the Thudguard helmet may be taking safety too far.
While it looks cute and soft, one can’t help thinking that it conjures up images of astronauts and space bubbles and other unnatural climates where ultimate protection is required. Whatever happened to the learning experience gleaned from a good, solid graze?
8. Shampoo Hat:
A fun, feminine derivative of an adult shower cap, this frilly crown is an excellent way to keep soapsuds and shampoo out and your baby’s humor intact if she/he doesn’t like getting her/his head wet.
The foam ring has a hole in the middle which serves as a visor and ensures there are no more tears at bath time. Available in pink and blue as well as with cartoon motifs.
9. Baby Snot Sucker:
As clinically correct as the country which spawned it, this Swedish nasal device is possibly the snottiest invention you will ever come across. A cross between a tube and a straw, the Nosefrida is a bizarre way of ensuring Baby’s excess mucus does not choke or suffocate.
A long, flexible tube with a mouthpiece on the parent’s end and a nostril sucker on the baby’s end, the Nosefrida introduces a whole new concept to child care: nose to mouth resuscitation. Lest you are worried that you’ll ingest the baby’s snot, the developers have thought of everything.
An inline filter stops the snot from reaching your mouth, and you just have to wash it in the sink before using again.
10. Potty Song:
Remember Thomas the Tank Engine, a childhood ditty used by many parents to inspire their toddlers by repeating the lines & think I can, I know I can’t The times they have changed and the parents reckon they’ve got wiser.
The newly released Potty Song CD will encourage any kid want to change their diapers, and go to the loo all by themselves. A brilliant Pavlovian concept, the CD allows you to play your child a personalized song which rewards him/her for using the potty by saying their name over and over again. The attention your child receives makes him/her keep going back for more.
11. Babykeeper Basic:
A cross between a handbag and a carrycot, the Babykeeper Basic is the perfect antidote to keeping your baby out of harm’s way when you don’t have enough arms. It hangs comfortably from walls of most public restrooms and fitting rooms by means of two large metal hooks protected with safety webbing.
An added benefit of the patent-pending carrier chair, padded with non-slip material, is that it offers a safe, efficient way to keeping your child strapped up while you push the shopping trolley. Just don’t mistake it for your handbag!
12. Pee-Pee Teepee:
A discerning design from someone who has cottoned on to Baby’s unpredictable toilet behavior, this clever little triangular tent-like cover will shield you from A¢a¬A”sprinkling wee weeA¢a¬? while trying to change your baby’s nappy. Washable and waste-friendly, the wee-wee wigwam comes in three styles: cellophane, laundry bag and terry cloth. Wham bam, thank you Mom.
13. Bink Tees:
From day one, babies are friends of pacifiers. If your baby is no exception, you will love this new line of t-shirts suitable for little suckers. Your baby will love this bink tees and amuse themselves with binkies for hours putting them in, spitting them out, and crying to retrieve it again. When they throw it out, you wash it off and put back or give it to her and the whole routine starts again.
14. Billy Bob Pacifiers:
If your baby is one of those who share that traditional longing for two front teeth for Christmas, give him/her something to really smile about. Besides keeping everyone in the vicinity in stitches, these wacky Billy Bob Baby Pacifiers soothe Baby and makes you wonder whether s/he really does only have a sublime mouth full of teeth.
15. Baby Legs:
Your baby’s legs are being exposed to the chilly air because of gapiosis. Protect your little ones legs from wind burn and chill with these baby legs. Your baby’s soft knees are protected from harsh surfaces, bugs, and sun rays. Keeps legs warm, comfortable alternative to tights and allows barefoot walking.
16. Baby High Heels:
Reverse the age order and dress up your little lamb as mature mutton. Not that the intention is to make your child grow up before its time, but these booties with high heels will add a fun dimension to yours, and Baby’s life.
Designed by two childhood friends for a laugh, the soft, decorative heel adds a fun aspect to comfortable crib shoes. Aptly named Heelarious, the shoes cannot support any weight and are not intended to be anything other than comfortable, but zany, baby shoes in a range of trendy designs. Ignore them at your peril.
17. Baby Food Dispensing Spoon:
Feed your baby conveniently one bite at a time with Squirt baby food dispensing spoon. 3 ounces of baby food can be filled in the bulb and attached firmly to the spoon end. Get the right amount of food from bulb with a simple squeeze. Protective cover helps to seal the food and to keep the spoon clean.
18. Baby Mickey womb doll:
Think your newborn baby might be missing the warmth of your womb? Takara Tomy has come up with a melodic solution in the form of a doll to apparently recreate the primal sounds of in utero heartbeat and blood flow outside the womb. Issho ni Nenne Baby Mickey and Minnie Womb-sound dolls aim to ease babies into a relaxing sleep cycle, and provide them with a new friend at the same time.
19. Baby Bottom Fan:
Just when you thought they hadn’t thought of everything to make Baby’s upbringing as clinical and as humanly possible, a Freudian with a serious hygiene fetish got wind of the news.
Equipped with a built-in anti-microbial fragrance dispenser to protect your baby from skin ailments, the Baby Bottom Fan is the quintessential gizmo to keep your baby dry, and you busy, at every diaper change. Apparently eases sleep and irritation too, and comes with sponge fan blades to eliminate any possibility of danger.
20. Peter Potty Toddler Urinal:
Now you can potty train your toddler boy easily with this flushable toddler urinal. This toddler urinal provides your little guy standup experience 6 months faster. The low basin is easier to use, reducing mess.
After using it, your kid loves to push the flush button. No plumbing is required; you have to just fill the reservoir at sink.

Frequently Asked Questions
QUESTION:
Can someone with legal experience regarding the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act answer this?
I am a Work-At-Home-Mom. I make custom baby carriers and sell them. Each of my carriers is one-of-a-kind. I buy my fabric from nationally trusted retailers such as JoAnn Fabrics, etc. I do not buy loads of fabric since I make them on an order-by-order basis (so I can customize for my buyer). How is the CPSIA going to affect me in particular? I am not the one importing the fabric or thread. Shouldn’t my supplies be tested before I buy them? Also, even if they are tested, I usually only buy fabric remnants instead of whole reels. It would be ridiculous for me to ask for certificates for 1 yard of fabric. I feel like this whole thing is going to put me, and a whole bunch of others like me, out of business. How can I possibly afford to have each and every one of my baby carriers tested for lead?
BACKGROUND INFO:
Congress passed a law in August 2008 called the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This law came about because of the numerous recalls of children’s toys in the past two years and specifically the issue of lead in the toys. While I applaud the attempt at making children’s products safer, the law as stands, will actually remove many of the products that we have turned to in place of those made in China.
As of February 10th, 2009, ALL children’s products sold in the United States will need to be certified to be lead free and many products will need additional testing. To be certified, the final product sold needs to have each component on it tested for lead. This sounds wonderful when you think of all of the “Made in China” children’s products that are out there and all of the children’s items that are mass produced (mostly imported). HOWEVER, think of the handcrafted items sold within the US. Think of any children’s item that is a ready made item that has been personalized with a child’s name (it would need to be retested because it is the final sold product that needs to be certified). Think of the children’s items that are sold at craft shows, garage sales, ebay, consignment shops and fundraisers. As of February 10th, it will be illegal to sell any children’s products without certification, no matter when it was produced. Collectible vintage toys and trains? A “banned substance”. You will not be able to donate items for charity because they are a “banned substance” since they are not certified. This applies not only to toys, but all products such as books, shoes, clothing, school supplies, sporting equipment, jewelry, etc. that are possibly intended for children 12 and under.
ANSWER:
Write to your congress person and your states senators. Ask them to sponsor a bill exempting domestic craft products from testing provided that the components are lead free.
Then contact everyone you know and know of involved in making and selling domestic craft products and ask them to do the same thing.
If enough people write enough members of congress corrective action will be taken.
If you’re looking for a creative and different way to honor new moms- and dads-to-be and help them get ready for their baby, consider throwing a baby safety shower instead of the usual “blankets and snugglies” shower.
Traditional baby showers are great fun and they offer new parents an opportunity to prepare their ”nests” for the arrival of a new baby.
Usually a baby shower is intended to give new parents a leg up in acquiring essential items like baby clothing, bath supplies, bottles or nursing equipment, toys and games, and special blankets or other treasures like silver cups.
I’ve always viewed baby showers as one of the best ways that a community can come together around the birth of a new child.
It reminds me of one of the best aspects of the ”old days” when a town, village, or neighborhood considered the birth and caring for a new child its responsibility, too.
A baby safety shower is in keeping with these old communitarian traditions.
It’s more than just fun and games, it’s really a learning experience for the whole community where all the activities revolve around baby and home safety.
Parents and caregivers certainly have a great time, but they also leave with a higher awareness of ways to keep their new babies safe at home.
The shower’s theme may focus on a variety of safety issues (see the Baby Safety Checklist below), including child-proofing one’s home, nutrition or health.
Also, you can arrange a baby safety shower for as many people as you can fit in your party space.
At bigger safety showers, all of the moms and dads in attendance — not just the couple being honored — can visit a variety of exhibits where safety-savvy parents illustrate home safety information with games, puzzles, songs, prizes, and other activities.
At smaller showers, it might work better to have one person lead the group in discussions and safety games.
Usually baby showers involve a collection of family and friends of the new parents, but safety showers are also a good way to create and promote partnerships within the broader community.
By offering, for example, to distribute baby products donated by local stores, or by providing information from local community health service providers, you can enhance your ties with the local business community and build your relationships with local health and social service organizations.
All this creates goodwill in your community and it provides your invited parents with welcome information, products, and services.
Use your creativity to create a baby safety shower for your personal situation.
The key to throwing a safety shower that will be rewarding for all involved is providing important safety information in a festive and inviting setting.
So — have fun, and learn about the all-important matter of better safety practices for your household.
BABY SAFETY CHECKLIST
The guidelines below were developed by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
It’s important to remember that, while these standards are based on sound principles, certain parents may disagree with some of them.
For example, the bedroom guidelines state that a baby should never sleep in the same bed as an adult.
However, from the Attachment Parenting perspective, sleeping with one’s baby is considered an important aspect of bonding and is even believed to possibly lower the incidence of SIDS.
Therefore, I recommend using the following guidelines as just that, guidelines, which should be examined carefully in light of your own views and beliefs about baby care giving.
Always consult your pediatrician if in doubt of the best way to proceed.
In the bedroom:
Put your baby to sleep on her back in a crib with a firm, flat mattress and no soft bedding underneath her.
Follow this advice to reduce the risk of suffocation and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS).
To prevent suffocation, never put babies to sleep on adult beds.
Make sure your baby’s crib is sturdy and has no loose or missing hardware.
This will prevent babies suffocating or strangling by becoming trapped between broken crib parts.
Never place your baby’s crib or furniture near window blind or curtain cords.
This will prevent babies from strangling on the loop of the cord.
To prevent falls, keep children away from windows.
In the bathroom:
Keep medicines and cleaning products in containers with safety caps and locked away from children.
This will prevent children from being poisoned.
Always check bath water temperature with your wrist or elbow before putting your baby in to bathe.
This will prevent burns to a baby’s delicate skin.
Never, ever, leave your child alone in the bathtub or near any water.
This will prevent children from drowning.
In addition, keep children away from all standing water, including water in toilets, 5-gallon buckets, and pools.
In the kitchen:
Don’t leave your baby alone in a highchair; always use all safety straps.
This will prevent injuries and deaths from the baby climbing out, falling, or sliding under the tray.
Be sure to use safety straps in strollers and baby swings.
Use your stove’s back burners and keep pot handles turned to the back of the stove.
This will prevent deaths and injuries from burns.
In addition, keep children away from tablecloths, so they can’t pull down hot foods or liquids on themselves.
Lock household cleaning products, knives, matches, and plastic bags away from children.
This will prevent poisonings, bleeding injuries, burns, and suffocation.
In other living areas:
Install smoke detectors on each floor of your home, especially near sleeping areas; change the batteries each year.
This will prevent deaths and injuries from fires.
Use safety gates to block stairways and safety plugs to cover electrical outlets.
This will prevent injuries from falls and electric shocks.
Keep all small objects, including tiny toys and balloons, away from young children.
This will prevent choking and possible death.

QUESTION:
looking for a chair for baby of 9 months with safety straps.Only the one he has at the moment tilts forward?
he keeps trying to stand up in his chair, and actually went completely forward the other day, luckily I was in the room with him when it happen. although he did hit his face on the floor but nothing too serious, but could of been. I have been looking everywhere for a baby chair from 9 months upwards with safety straps as he is not walking yet,and not sturdy enough to balance himself. The chair he has at the moment is for birth to infant FP.Can anyone help
ANSWER:
If you’re talking highchairs, Peg Perego is great. If you’re talking a bouncy chair, which I think you are. Kids shouldn’t be in one after they learn to sit, it’s dangerous. Try putting him in his excersaucer, or if he doesn’t have one, that would be a good investment. Otherwise, put him in a play yard where he can’t escape from, but can move around safely
QUESTION:
How to get mildew out of safety straps for a carseat?
I am having a baby in about 3 weeks and got the carseat out of storage. I noticed that it had a bit of mildew on the straps. It was likely put away without being cleaned by my husband. So I am wondering what will take out the mildew. The straps are a golden tan color and they are Graco. Thanks for any help!
ANSWER:
While you *can* clean the straps off to a degree… you are not supposed to immerse them in liquid because it can weaken them and put your child at risk. With mildew… I really wouldn’t be happy with just a surface cleaning.
If the seat itself is not expired you can contact Graco with the model number and other info and purchase a new set of straps. That would really be your best option for maximum safety at minimal cost.
QUESTION:
Which brand is the best to use for baby safety?
I’m trying to stop my little one from opening doors, and drawers. I have the brand safety first, using their cabinet
& drawer latches, and the ones with the tension release strap, but i find the sticky stuff holding them in place, just fails…everytime. I sick of wasting money on a product that doesn’t work. What can I use to stop my child opening drawers, cupboards, shower doors……if you know something that definately works let me know..
ANSWER:
I believe I have the same kind of cabinet locks and you are supposed to screw them in. The adhesive tape on them is so they stay in place while you screw them into the cabinet.
If you have cabinet doors with the handle together, I suggest just getting the slide locks. They had them that looked like a U shape and you just slid the end on and then pushed buttons on the top and bottom to slide them off. I cant find them anymore though BUT now they have these ones that look like a diamond and 2 zip tie looking things that you loop through the center diamond piece… they are mommy proof too though LOL! I bought both of these at walmart.
For the doors, they have door knob covers at walmart too. OR you can buy a gate and not let him or her in the kitchen and close the bathroom door…
QUESTION:
omg .. opinion on safety straps for prams?
Now my opinion is that the mother shouldnt of taken her eyes of the pram! Let alone let go of it at a train station! Very stupid and irresponsible .. but my pram came with a safety strap that goes around my wrist so things like this dont happen .. i think here in australia its a law now .. i always use it just to be safe .. what do you think?
yes .. i have let go of my pram .. when ive had the safety strap on my wrist and im on level ground .. also she was waiting for the the train so she knew it was coming .. ive never let go of my pram on a train station when im waiting to cross the road etc .. but tis couldve been avoided with some responsibility .. im not saying shes a bad mother just this one this was very stupid.. i am also greatful that te baby is unharmed!
my pram came with one for my son which i bought when i was pregnant and hes 16 months old now so that was about 2 years ago .. and i bought a stroller a few months ago and te strap is on the pram and it cant come off unless you cut it and theres a label on it saying “warning use the strap to stop pram/stroller from rolling away”
ANSWER:
safety straps are compulsory by law for precisely the reasons shown in that article. I was told they are compulsory on ALL strollers, not just the ones sold since the law came into effect. I don’t know if you remember the incident where the baby drowned because a stroller rolled down a hill into a body of water, but that was the incident that pushed the tether strap law through.
However that doesn’t stop lazy parents from not using them and it doesn’t stop stupid parents from cutting them off, and it is those parents who will end up with the dead babies.
QUESTION:
Can you use a forward-facing car-seat without the safety tether strap thing ?
Our second car is an old pick-up with one long bench seat, simple cab. There are no anchors of any type for baby seats. We are still installing her convertible face-backwards because I read in the manual that you should never do it in the forward-facing position without the safety strap.
What do can I do ? She is getting too big to face backwards. Does anyone know of a model of seat that doesn’t require the safety strap ? Is it legal not to have it (this is an older vehicle ?)
ANSWER:
its not wise to put a car seat in the front seat of any vehicle. its not safe.
if the seat has a safety strap then use it. if you got no points of contact then you are risking your daughters safety.
QUESTION:
I need a strap for my baby swing.?
I was wondering, is it possible to buy a safety strap for a swing that doesn’t have one. The swing hasn’t been used as of yet, but will need that strap when the baby does start to use it. Please, if you can help me find one, that would be great.
Thanks.
ANSWER:
check the manufacturer’s website. if they dont have them on the site to buy u may have 2 call the customer service number an see if there is any way to buy a replacement strap. If you bought this swing new I would disassemble it an take it back to the store. if you no longer have the reciept go out an buy a new one of the same thing an put the one that did not have the strap back in the box an then take it back. The store is not losing out on money an they will not be short on inventory as they will just send the defective one back to the manufacturer an get a credit for it. Hope this helps!!!
QUESTION:
Baby Car Seat Safety – older vehicles? install teather latch?
I know that vehicles made after 2002 have an anchor for the carseat teather strap….but my vehicle is a 1990 Chrysler Van
I read somewhere online that dealerships install the anchor latch free of charge….is that true or how much would it cost? Im in Canada
ANSWER:
In Canada, it is a law to have your carseats tethered. Yes, GM will install one tether anchor at no charge…and there is no charge for the hardware. You need to contact your local dealership and they will install it for you. Since it is required in Canada, they MAY be able to install more at no charge.
Is it a Chrysler Town and Country? You can have TA’s installed outboard, but not in the center and you can have them at all seating locations in the 3rd row. The part number is 05017529AA. That part no. is for all of the seating locations.
Refer to Technical Service Bulletin 23-08-00 Revision A for details. It is only with certain older models.
QUESTION:
as a mom would you say anything, okay i’m gonna say something 4 the safety of the baby how do i?
w/o losing a friend?
my husband is 22 & he has been good friends with this guy who is 19, for about 5 yrs. his friend just started working where my hubby does, the same shift, so he told my hubby, “hey i’ll drive since i have to come by your house to go to work.” so my husband said great, yesterday was the first time, now his friend lives with his girl friend (who is 17, and just had a baby 8 months ago) and her parents,
so my hubby comes home this morning and he was like their baby’s car seat is facing forward and it moves whenever he goes around a curve, i’m like what? so he said that the car seat literally raises up on one side when he goes around the curb. picture leaning on a motorcycle. and slides along the seat a little.
now i know they are young, but their daughter is 8 months old, and only weighs 14 lbs (she was a preemie) so i know it’s not suppose to be turned around facing forward yet & the fact that it moves, and moves that much. i was like did you say anything, he said i asked him about it and he said her parents put it in the car for them
okay now i’m just a nosy, very opinionated mom, and i can and will bite my tongue on stuff that is none of my business, but this is my business because if anything happens (like they wreck and that little girl dies) it’s on me cause i know better and i didn’t do anything about it, now i have no idea how in the instructions her parents missed the part about it being turned rear facing till 1 year old or a certain weight, nor do i know how they missed the part about it not having to be tight, but my husband said is leans and slides along the seat, so not safe
but what upset me more was i was mulling this around all morning, so i wake him up and tell him to call them and invite them up for a cookout and to play in the pool, they come up and she is like i love swimming, i told her i have a small baby pool for the kids, she puts her baby, who can’t sit up on her own in the baby pool and walks off, yes i was there, but what if i wasn’t, my son can sit up on his own, the fact that i never leave him alone has nothing to do with it. but so anyway, that’s fine, i assume she knew i’d be staying with the baby’s
when they were leaving she put her daughter in the car seat and she didn’t fasten the straps across her chest, she just fastened the bottom buckles, i was like you forgot the chest buckle, she said no it’s too hard to get fastened, and she cries because it takes me so long to get it unfastened. okay so my baby used to also but i still did it
so i said well let me show you a trick to it. so i showed her if she uses both hands it will unsnap faster, i had to buckle the baby in, but she was like, nah she’s safe as long as one of them is fastened. really how did she come up with that
so now i’m trying to figure out i should tell her that her car seat needs to be adjusted and rear facing with out hurting her feelings
i was thinking like when they come up again, be cleaning my babies and ask her to help me put it back in the car and making a comment about i can’t wait till he’s 1 yr old so i can turn it around forward or something. what do you think
yes i know i will get rude comments about minding my own business, but i’m not going to, so if that is all you have to say, don’t answer, thank you have a great night.
oh, and yes it’s a rear facing kind of carseat
this is the carseat they have, i know, we gave it to them for the baby shower, and it only goes up to 32 lbs, and is meant for rear facing.
our police station installs car seats in our town, it’s where all the moms donate their old carseats to so they can give them to families that can’t afford a new one so their babies are safe in a carseat that is fairly new and still in the safe guidelines
i know i just want to shake her and say you’re a mom now, grow up and take care of your baby right. and put her safety first.
and then throw all my parenting books at her.
Celeys mommy i like that idea, i really don’t want to hurt her feelings or scream at her or damage my husband’s friendship with her boyfriend, but if i have to i will, i’m trying to be subtle about it first.
ANSWER:
I agree… but I think you need to just sit down and be frank with her.. tell her that her baby is not safe in that car seat and you are very concerned for her safety…tell her as a young mom you can understand the oversight (obciously you’d be lying here… pleny of young moms know the right way) and offer to show her how to do it correctly and mention if they ever got pulled over they would be cited for not having that child rear facing.
If she refuses then call CPS.. seriously. It’s moms like her that give young moms a bad name.
I feel very scared for that child and as a friend I think i is time to step in and gentle nudge her in the right direction or tke some sort of action, even if it means your hubby loses a friend.
After the arrival of new baby, it is very much exciting for the whole family. This is one of the most fun and joyful event in the family’s life.
After the arrival of your newborn there are some associated tasks and responsibilities that you need to learn for your child safety. Preparing a room for your child safety is also very much important out of all the tasks in the preparation of the baby’s arrival.
Parents often want to offer a best room for their child safety. Most of the couples would probably start planning of their child safety the moment they found that the wife is pregnant.
Some of the basic things that you need to do for your child safety:
So, you are now busy in preparing the things for your child safety. Preparing the baby room is one of the most important tasks that you need to consider with child safety.
You must need to know that what the basic things that provide child safety. You need to create a room that is worth living for your child.
You are confused with what things you have to buy and what things you have to install in your baby room? Here are the things you have to install in your baby’s room for your child safety.
The Mattress:
The mattress is a sleeping accessory worthy of scrutiny. The ideal mattress for your child safety should be perfect in size to fit snugly inside the crib. The mattress must fit tightly all round the crib for safety reasons.
If there is a space between the edges of the mattress and the side of the crib, there is a possibility for your child’s arms to get trapped in the space.
Hence, your baby could get suffocated if his or her head got caught. Therefore you have to purchase the mattress that fits tightly inside the crib and this gives perfect child safety.
The crib:
The crib is the most important thing that you should buy or create for your child safety. This is the basic thing where your baby sleeps. [Choosing Baby Cribs]
Your newborn will spend most of the time in his/her crib. So, the crib should be chosen and prepared meticulously that allows child safety.
Most of the mothers will get a question that is how to choose a crib that provides child safety environment?
a¢ This is just a simple thing. You just remember one thing when choosing the baby’s crib, think child safety first. Child safety is highly recommended here.
a¢ So, make sure that slats in the crib are no more than 2 to 3/8 inches apart. For your child safety, this is the standard measure for the crib’s slats.
a¢ Check that you can manipulate the drop side easily with just one hand as there are some instances that you will need to hold your baby on your other arm.
a¢ Ignore those cribs that feature corner posts that tend to extend above the rail. If you purchase this kind of crib, there is a possibility that the clothing of your baby may get hung on them especially when he starts moving on his own.
The Bumper Pad:
The bumper pad should also be taken into consideration as this also plays a very important role in your child safety. Basically it takes the role of protector.
It gives child safety by protecting your child from direct contact with the hard slats on the crib. Moreover, it can be a fun point to apply whatever decorating style you have got in mind.
However, it is vital to maintain the standard measure of the bumper pad in order for it to fully perform its role. The bumper pad must have at least six straps to grip it in place. The straps should be closed with snaps as this offers more child safety with those that are tied to the crib.
In addition, it is a constraint for the bumper pad to fit tightly around inside the crib. Similar to the mattress, the bumper pad should be fixed without leaving open spaces for the baby to bang head or block in between the side of the crib and the bumper.
You can purchase, or make your own bumper pad if you wish for your baby room. While choosing a bumper pad you have to consider the following things which give child safety:
a¢ However, select a bumper pad that has its own fabric and firm foam.
a¢ Select one that will coordinate with the pattern of your crib.
a¢ By the way, discourage the use of the bumper pad when your baby is capable of reaching a standing position.
a¢ Note that the pad can be his or her stepping stone to crawl out of the crib. So watch out for this purpose.
Swaddling blankets:
Swaddling is an effective child safety tip. Swaddling is the art of wrapping your baby with blankets to comfort and protect him or her from adverse temperatures. It gives child safety zone by avoiding sudden infant deaths.
Baby’s bath tub:
A bath tub in your baby room is another essential item for your child safety.
A small plastic child safety bath tub can provide a comfortable bath environment for your little one. Therefore, try to buy one that may fit the bathing needs of your baby.
Moreover, you can find a lot of both tubs and it’s up to you to decide which one you prefer for your child safety. Make sure that before using the tub it is completely clean. Be careful and never leave your baby alone in the bath tub. [Tips for Safe Infant Bath]
The changing table:
Changing table is not that much important for the baby room as the baby can be changed on any surface. It can be of great help to mothers and guardians. It can be a back saver for everybody as it places the baby at a comfortable height.
You can dress him or her, or change the diapers comfortably. It makes the clothing and diaper changes easier and faster. It also helps to keep everything handy and at your easy access.
While choosing a child safety changing table for your baby room, make sure that it has a comfortable restraining belt to keep your baby while you wipe and change his or her diaper.
Also, ensure that it should have a safety railing around the top and should be strong. Prior to using it, it is best to test it to make sure that it doesn’t bob.
And, at the time when you change your baby’s clothing or diaper, keep an eye at all times on your child. Never leave the baby alone on a changing table even for a split second.
A nightlight:
A nightlight is a requirement for a safe baby room. For safety don’t enter into your baby room at night to feed her not being able to see in the dark.
The nightlight offers you the possibility to see where and what you are stepping at so you don’t get bumped or tripped into things inside your baby room.
It is important, however, to ensure that the nightlight is out of your baby’s reach for your child safety. If you have placed it at floor level, that might attract crawling babies to sockets.
So, you have to avoid that and instead you can install a dimmer switch for the lighting fixture of the baby room. You can also use a lamp.
There are a lot of other requisites that your baby room needs to have. It may include the layette, a baby sling, books, baby clothes, and health care items for child safety.
But, other than these material things, every nursery needs caring adults, not just parents, who will be a part of the baby’s life.
How to decorate room for your child safety?
Finally you have got all the essential items for your baby room. The next thing to do now is to decorate the room for your child safety. Make the room like a heavenly place for your child safety.
To decorate a room, it needs careful planning, attention, time and effort. Hence, be ready to apply all of these when decorating your baby room.
Follow the below mentioned tips when decorating the nursery for your most precious one:
1. Think and plan for a child safety room that may last through childhood
Here you have to note only one main idea, that is, to think that your baby will grow old. With this idea, while planning for a baby room, you should not give the room too much of a baby feel.
The colors that you have chosen, like pink or blue might not great for grown ups, as it might seem like it is for babies. Therefore, maintain a color that might be great for both babies and preschoolers.
You have to choose furniture and wall treatments that can suit every age and gender. You can use accessories to give the room a baby feel, but don’t over do it.
It is also important to ensure that there is a comfortable place for a bed as this may be of great use once your baby grows out of the crib.
2. Avoid wall-to-wall carpeting
When decorating your baby room, it is best for you to choose either cork floor or area rugs on a wood.
If you use area rush rugs, they can be replaced easily than carpeting in case they get dirty and the cork or hard floors are easier to clean up. They don’t even hide allergy-annoying things like dust and dirt.
3. Watch out for the best lightning in the baby room
When it comes to lightning, a nightlight is not only the thing of focus here. A nightlight can help you from bumping and tripping on things inside the nursery every time you visit the baby room at night to feed your baby.
It is also necessary for you to take note of the light in the baby room in the daytime. You have to notice the angles of sunlight in your baby room at day time.
The idea here is, for your child safety, doesn’t place the crib in a spot where there is a direct sunlight in the morning. You also have to notice the place of the crib at night because there is the focus of streetlights at night time.
4. Adequate storage space is best
In your baby room, you probably need more storage space that you think. So, make a plan to build a room with enough space for you to store away baby’s accessories once the child gets older.
Adequate space allows your child to walk and crawl easily and gives child safety.
Your child will require bigger clothes, then shoes, and other accessories he needs for his age. As your child grows the number of toys may even increase. So you must expect that as your baby grows, his stuff grows too.
5. Create a room for you in the nursery
Possibly a time comes for every mother or father to spend a number of nights in the nursery with their baby. The situations may be rocking the baby to sleep or reading him or her stories later on.
So, it is important for every nursery to include a rocking chair or simply a comfortable chair where you and your child can spend some bonding hours.
How to turn your baby room into a child safety zone?
There are a lot of things that you can consider to make your baby room truly worth living for child safety. Just like you, your baby will also needs a room that is safe from whatever environmental harms.
Child safety is the main rule to consider. So, before transferring your baby from your room to his or her room, make sure that everything in place is safe.
Here are some tips to turn your baby room into a child safety zone:
a¢ Make sure that the crib you have installed for your baby has a firm mattress and doesn’t include decorative patterns. Also watch out for corner posts.
a¢ Check and make sure that the crib slats are narrow. Never ever leave any space for the head of your baby to get wedged between these slats.
a¢ Ensure that the changing table has a preventive strap and three raised sides.
a¢ Avoid the things like comforters, pillows and soft stuffed animals from the crib, because these things might suffocate your baby, especially when your baby is in between the age of 4-6 months old.
a¢ Once your child started reaching for things, it is best to take down all decorations or toys you have placed in or strung across the crib, from rail to rail for your child safety.
a¢ It is best for you not to buy a toy box that features a heavy hinged lid. There is a possibility that these things might fall on your baby especially when he reaches to obtain a toy.
a¢ Use a soft rug for the floor. This will give child safety by preventing your child from injuries and pain from those unavoidable falls.
When planning for child safety room, it is best to have an idea on how to decorate the room, what are the needed things for your child safety and how to maintain a safe place for your baby.
This process involves a lot of effort and time to be invested. The best way to succeed is to be conscious of what you want and need to make the baby room a pleasing place to be comfortable and provides child safety.

QUESTION:
can baby go over crib railing?
my 6 month old can already pull himself up in a standing position in his crib. i’ve already taken off his bumpers so he won’t b able to use them as steps. lately i’ve notice him bouncing while holding on to the rails (which btw is already at neck level) would he be strong enough to pull himself over the rails? this has been scaring me for days. any other advice on crib safety for his age wld be most welcome. thanks in advance.
ANSWER:
If is only bouncing, not jumping, you’re ok for now. Besides the bumper, make sure you have removed all other toys from the crib. Mobiles, toys, stuffed animals and pillows all can be used to step on or pull themselves up. Also make sure you have the mattress set at the lowest level. The crib being a neck level seems a little high, but he may be tall for his age, since he is ahead of the game in standing and bouncing.
Once he begins jumping and climbing, then you would need to move him to another bed. If he’s under one when you move him, it may be best just to put the mattress on the floor the first few months as he gets used to it. That way if he gets active he’s only got a 4-6″ fall. Once he’s used to sleeping in a “big boy” bed, you can transition him to a toddler or regular bed with a guard rail.
Hope this helps,
Alan

Baby safety on a balcony…??
We recently moved into a condo on the second floor. The balcony has rails that are wide and unsafe for our 7 month old who is learning to crawl. We would never let him out by himself but, we still want it to be safe. Someone suggested getting chicken fence and putting it up w/ twist ties… Any other suggestions? QUESTION:
Is there a safety risk in elevating my baby’s mattress?
I am a mom of a 3 week old baby. The last few days, she has not been wanting to sleep flat on her back. She sleeps fine in her swing and her crib but she’s really fussy at night when she’s on her back. Also, during the day when she’s napping or just laying on her back, she cries until I pick her up. Is there a safety risk in elevating her crib mattress? The springboard allows for the mattress to be elevated quite easily without any chance of it slipping or falling. I’m just wondering if there’s a risk of her suffocating or smacking her head against the side rails. Thank you so much!
PS – She is breastfed.
ANSWER:

will you be buying a Toddler bed for your baby?

QUESTION:
I’m 13 and I want to take a VIA rail train from Montreal to Kingston can someone assure my safety?
My parents are worried about me being stolen off the train because they think I’m still a baby. Is there someone (stewardess ETC) that could make sure I have a safe travel?
ANSWER:
The short answer is, no.
That being said, nothing is a sure thing, and I am afraid that you have gotten yourself into an issue that pure statistics will not settle.
Your parents are undoubtedly aware that there are some crazies out in the world, and no amount of data on train safety is going to sway them from that position.
The only way I can see you making that train trip is if they are assured that someone they trust will be there along with you the whole way, willing to be responsible for your safe passage.
Maybe if you could scare up some relative or even arrange for you to travel with a “buddy”, I think many of their fears could be allayed.
Good luck – train travel is “the bomb” (figuratively speaking, of course).
QUESTION:
Can my 11 week old baby travel in a stroller?
I am making a long journey down to visit family this week and have just been informed by the rail company that my pram cannot go on the train! I cannot carry my son in a carrier as I have a bad back so am thinking about buying a cheap stroller/pushchair just for this trip. They all say 6 months and up, is this vital to his safety? He can’t sit up on his own yet but can hold his head up. Please advise!
ANSWER:
Most of the travel strollers you are talking about do not have 5 point harnesses (waist, crotch, over shoulders) and that makes them a bit more dangerous for younger babies. That is why the 6 months and up warning. I have seen them, though and some of them even recline back a little. Most of these, even though they do recline a little, are definitely more upright and meant for children who can sit, even if supported. I would be leery about doing this with a baby so young. Maybe contact the rail company and explain the situation. I am sure they have run across this before. Good luck and safe journey!
QUESTION:
Drop rail safety on crib?
My 9.5 mth old has just started standing in his crib. He has one of those cribs with the drop down rail on the side for easy access of putting baby in and out. The only problem is that when he tries to pull up sometimes one side comes unhooked and drops a bit, if he were to get to the other side and do the same thing, he could have it drop low enough for him to fall out if he were to stand up.
Has anyone else had this problem?
Also the mattress is as low as it will go, and there is no way to lock the crib rail in place. Should I contact the manufacturer?
ANSWER:
Yes you should DEFINITELY contact the manufacturer TODAY. Your baby could take a dangerous spill. You should also go to consumerreports.org to see if there has already been a recall on your crib.
In the meantime, keep your baby in a pack n’ play.

QUESTION:
4 Month old puppy problems?
So have a 4 month old puppy, got him when he was 2 months, and he causes many problems. Hes a white shih tzu/ bichon frise if that makes any difference.
First, is his potty problem. He will poop/pee in his tray laid with newspaper about 7/10 times, but the other times he would only pee there and there would be poop somewhere on the floor (e.g. if i woke up and saw pee in his tray, id almost for sure find a pile of poop somewhere on the floor) Also, while we’re playing/interacting with him, he will potty on the floor.
Secondly, he barks when he wants attention or when he wants to be let out pass the room divider ( we use a safety divider on stairs for babies to divide the rooms because sometimes we dont want him in the kitchen).
Thirdly, when we try to take him on walks, he would always hold back, and tug back, like he doesnt want to go on walks or something.
Finally, when we try to teach him any tricks or play with him, he is way too focused on the treat.
Sorry this is our first puppy so we’re very inexperienced!
ANSWER:
You’ve identified 4 problems that are all easily fixed but the amount of data we would have to write here would be a bit voluminous (not to mention contradictory and confusing as there are multiple ways to train dogs). Since this is your first puppy, why don’t you enroll in a good obedience class with a capable trainer. (use www.canineprofessionals.com to find one in your area). They will give you all the tools and education to deal with these problems and more.

QUESTION:
top stair safety gates? where to buy a gate for the stairs?
Hello, we need to buy gates for our stairs. We have a 15 months old baby, and she is in every place, I’m scary that she can fall on the stairs on our new house.
I want a gate screwed into the wall but we don’t know where to find one like that.
Please any help would be appreciate.
Thanks.

The one I had was bought at walmart I think. It was a swing gate and very hard for kids to open it. Kinda hard for me actually lol but hey it worked. I’m not sure if that’s where my parents bought it so I’ll ask them tomorrow and email ya.
The one I had was made of thick plastic so you didn’t have to worry about it breaking.
QUESTION:
Baby Safety gate for against banister?
I am looking for a GOOD! safety gate that I can use for my stairs, I have a banister so it would have to go against that, I would prefer to have one that DOESNT ruin the banister nd wall, but I want to make sure that if my son pushes against it, it wont fall over.
It needs to be able to open because I cant climb over top of it
thank you so much!!
ANSWER:
At the top of stairs, a pressure-closed gate is not adequate. It will eventually given way, leading to a big tumble down the stairs. There are gates with “gate door” in them, with a handle to lift while pushing a release button. If your stairway is not near standard size, (ours is 23″, no gate fits), there is a gate which is kind of like a window shade turned sideways, with a latch to keep it in place. Pricey, but it did work well.

I have 2 steps at the bottom of my stairs without a bannister, what can i do about a safety gate for my baby?

Just read that the gates should not be used for kids older than 24 months.
It looks as I also have to buy a screw fitting gate only to fit it on the top.

Angle Mount Safeway Safety Gate by Kidco is all of those things except auto close. I think with auto close, it would be nice so I don’t have to turn on the top of the stairs and close it-it would just close on its own. And it seems safer.

QUESTION:
What is the best baby gate for top of stairs?

Thank you!
@barfly: So I should teach my 9m old (and walking) not to fall down the stairs and yet make sure the cabinets are locked? Sorry, a gate is a must. Anybody with kids have any suggestions?
ANSWER:
I have Dreambaby gates and love them. They’re metal and come in black or white. I have the standard size at the top of the stairs, and the extra-tall ones blocking access to the bottom of the stairs in the hallway. It takes a while to mount them properly, but the instructions are good and they’re strudy once mounted. They also swing closed automatically in both directions, though the click in kind of loud so I usually close them gently by hand. I ordered them online. They were more expensive than many gates, but totally worth it. You can open the gate easily with one hand.
You need to measure the space exactly, then buy any extensions you may need. The bottom and top of the space may be slightly different widths if you have a baseboard, but the mounting cups can screw out to different lengths. The more they’re screwed out, the less secure it is (thus the importance of getting extensions, if needed, rather than screwing out the mounting cups to the maximum). I wouldn’t trust any gate enough to lean against it at the top of the stairs, but ours has held firm every time we’ve bumped into it by accident, and it’s steady when my 13 month old daughter tries to shake the bars.

After some research on this about a year ago, my wife and I decided to go with an installed gate, which means that instead of the gate relying on its own pressure to stay put, you actually screw the gate brackets into the doorway. Our little ones can be quite tenacious and stronger than we think, so the more secure the better.
We chose a gate from Evenflo (which I reference below), that I believe we bought from Babies `R’ Us.
There may be a better choice out there as of right now, but the main thing I stress is to forget about the holes you will be putting in the wall or doorway, and think about what will protect your little one the best.
Good Luck!
QUESTION:
Which baby gate is good for the top of stairs?
I’m looking to buy a baby gate here in a few days. We live in an upstairs apartment so we have a flight of stairs in our house. Do any of you have one at the top of your stairs, do you like it, and where did you get it?
ANSWER:
If you can, get something that bolts into the wall – those are the most secure
QUESTION:
What is the best baby gate for top of stairs with a round banister?
We have a 10 month old and a 4 year old. We just moved into a home where they have to pass the stairs to get to our room and coming from an apartment, we didn’t have this issue. The top of the stairs has a square base and a round top.
ANSWER:
We have this attachment and the gate that works with it…work great for our stairs, which are very similar to the picture.
QUESTION:
What is the best baby gate for top of stairs?
I just bought the Safety 1st Perfect fit, it’s wall mounted on top of my stairs and I don’t trust it. Also every time you open it you have to readjust it loosing its one hand open feature. Please share your experience.
QUESTION:
what are the best and safest baby gates for stairs?
I need a new baby gate for my 14 mnth old son. we live in a 2nd floor apartment and I am nervous with the stairs. I was wondering if anyone knew of a good brand they would recommend?
ANSWER:
We bought an evenflo gate. You can buy it at Babies r us. I don’t have the specific name, though. Also, make sure the gate you buy attaches to the wall and is not a pressure-mounted gate. then it is safer. Good luck!
QUESTION:
What is the best baby gate to use at the top of the stairs??
My son is 7 months now and he is just starting to kinda crawl. We are going to baby proof the house now before its too late. What is the safest yet affordable gate to use at the top of the stairs? We live in a rented house and cant drill in the walls. We also want a gate with a swing door feature for accessability. Thanks . . . I dont know where to begin!!
ANSWER:
If you cant drill can you maybe do two gates in sucession? Maybe one at the door of the room where he is and then at the steps as a precaution in case he manuevers through the first one. Two layers of protection.
My son sprung every gate we had. Uncanny but he took everything apart.
I agree that the tension gats are good but not for the top of stairs. I hope you figure out something.
QUESTION:
Any suggestions for a top of the stairs baby gate that there isn’t anything to drill it into?
We have railings at the top of the stairs and I bought the kidco no drill baby gate installation kits and a baby gate but it turns out my railings aren’t straight across and the way they are placed it won’t work to put a baby gate on. I am in desperate need to put a gate in front of these stairs as the second I set my son down he goes straight for the stairs… has anyone had this problem with gates? Does anyone have any suggestions on what I could put in front of the stairs that would work just as good?!
The Kidco no drill kit works perfect for our other railing to attach the gate to… but our stairs going down the 2 posts for the railing aren’t straight across so the gate would be going diagonal and I don’t think the latches will work then so I’m wondering if there is some other type of gate I can put there that it wont matter if it is diagonal
ANSWER:
(a) Install 2 additional, upright ‘posts’ to your existing railing to accommodate the baby gate.
(b) Just install the baby gate to nearest the doorway and prevent your baby from getting near the stairway.

Also, you should take into account the sex of the upcoming baby before you make your final decision.
There are plenty of cool baby shower themes to choose from, if you find the mom-to-be a pretty cool one. Cool themes are fun that both the expectant mom and guests will enjoy. Another cool baby shower theme would be rubber duckies. This one makes a really cute theme for a baby shower. Rubber duckies are easy to be included in different parts the baby shower. You can use them to decorate the tables by creating floating rubber duckies centerpieces. Simply have some clear glass jars or if you have a number of small fish bowls, you can use them instead. Fill the jars with an enough amount of water so that the duckies can float. You can color the water using blue food coloring and you may also include a few crystals or stones to add an underwater feel to the centerpieces. It’s a good idea to incorporate some oranges or yellows on the table – for example orange or yellow plates or cups. Some of the great food selections to serve here are crab cakes, cheese and crackers, cupcakes with small rubber duckies on the top, brownies and cookies, and croissant sandwiches. For the drink, you can serve a blue punch with of course rubber duckies floating or use a bowl with rubber ducky design.

Baby showers are considered to be the most appropriate opportunity to honor the expectant mother. In a typical baby shower there will be food, games and activities. The shower often takes place just a few months before the baby is born. To host a successful shower party, you need the cooperation of the mother.
The main point in organizing a baby shower is to honor the birth of a child. The whole family and their relatives will have a chance to sit together and get to know one another better. However, a baby shower is also a chance to invite friends and colleagues to share the joy with the parents.
The expectant mother will receive gifts and supplies from guests. These gifts will be used for, and by, the new baby. Before the party, the mother gives a list of what she and her baby need. The guests will then buy gifts based on what the mother needs.
Before you throw out a shower party, you have to consider thy type of the party you want to organize. There are many types, including parties with only women and parties for couples.
When you select a party with only feminine attendees, you have to make sure all the activities are feminine targeted. Some activities include spa showers and tea parties. The main color of the party will be either pink or blue. Remember, pink for baby girl and blue for baby boy.
You can also throw a party for men only. This kind of party will involve sporting activities. If the parents are expecting their second child, they may have had enough supplies for the child from the previous child. This is when they want to make a party where the guests will give books as gifts so that they can make a small library for the child.
Usually the baby shower occurs a few months before the mother gives birth to the child. However, there are couples who celebrate the big event after the mom has given birth. The guests will be able to see the baby and then give appropriate gifts.
All shower invitations as well as any other party invitations should be sent four to six weeks in advance. This is to allow time for the guests to arrange their work and to make a gift selection. If you are inviting far away guests, make sure you send out invitations a long time before the party takes place.
One of the most important things of baby showers is food and drink. Therefore, you should make sure there is enough food for all of the guests. Be prepared to serve for some extra guests so make sure there is ample food available.
