Booster chairs are of two types: those that are used in the kitchen while eating and those used for car seats.

If your child has grown out of the high chair but not ready for seating at the table, you can increase the height of the chair as per the child using a booster chair.  Booster chairs are used with normal chairs to raise its height, unlike high chairs.  They don’t take up extra space.

Booster seats in cars are used when the child is too small to fit onto the cars seat belts perfectly.  To adjust the child’s height and position the seat belt perfectly two types of booster seats are available, high-backed booster seats and backless booster seats.  High backed booster seats attach themselves to the seat along with a five-point harness mechanism. 

Backless booster chairs just raise the height of the child so that the seat belt can be adjusted properly.  They consist of a seat and arm rest for the baby.  Booster chairs with padding can be chosen for more comfort.  Vinyl seating is usually more easy to wash and keep clean.

While buying the booster chair make sure that the child is comfortable in it and there is sufficient room for breathing and movement. Also make sure that the size of the booster chair matches that of the chair with which you want to use it. 

Same for the booster car seat, it should fit perfectly with the car seat using maybe a LATCH system.   The durability and the safety of the product, along with the comfort has to be kept in mind and not just the design and extra features.
