6 Baby Playpen Features to Watch Out For

Author: Stuart Sherm

Gone are the days when things were bought for the basic needs they were supped to fulfill. Now is the time when you buy things with the extra added benefits, to get the best out of the money you spend. With the changing times and changing lifestyles, with both the parents working it has become essential to have a safe playpen for the baby.

Though factors like safety, easy cleanup, and ease of use remain the most important criteria that must be borne in mind while buying baby playpens, there are other features you can check out too, in order to ensure that the playpen gets used even more extensively. Some of them are:

1. Wheels- Baby playpens with wheels are always better than playpens without them. This allows easy maneuverability of the pen throughout the home.

2. Easy to fold up- These days such baby playpens are also available that can be folded up completely, into a small compact form that can be put into a bag or a carrying case too. This means that no mater where you and your baby travel to, your baby never has to miss his or her playpen! Generally such folding playpens come with a carrying case itself. So that you can fold them up and keep them conveniently in these cases.

3. Canopy- It is generally preferable to opt for playpens with a canopy. This ensures that you can take your child with their playpens even outdoors, in the sun. The canopy protects the baby, as your baby happily plays away in the playpens, without being bothered by the strong sunlight.

4. Changing station- Many manufactures manufacture such playpens these days, than have an extra yard that can serve as a changing unit, when required. These generally fit on the top, where you can lay your baby down for changing. This is an extremely useful feature that comes in handy on many occasions.

5. Playpens that can be used as cribs- These are playpens that can serve as cribs too, as and when you require. This means, that when you want your baby to have a crib to sleep in, you can change these. You can immediately transform it onto a crib, and when the child wishes to play, it can be used as a playpen. While traveling, this playpen-cum-crib feature can prove to be extremely useful.

6. The playpen should merge with the overall décor if the nursery or the house, otherwise it will look out of place.

However as you watch out for these added benefits in the playpens, do not forget to take your most important needs and requirements into consideration. For instance, as you purchase a playpen, it might be helpful for you to first make up your mind as to how much traveling would your baby be doing. No matter how many additional benefits does your playpen provide, what is really important is whether these benefits feature to your requirements and your overall lifestyle or not.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How much did you spend on getting ready for baby?
New-ish parents: How much did you spend on gathering all the needs (and “extras”) for your first baby–including nursery decor and furniture, clothing, stroller, playpen, safety fittings etc.? What was given to you (i.e. hand-me-downs or shower gifts) and what did you have to save up to purchase yourself?
    Thanks!

    • ANSWER:
As a mother of 5 and grandmother of 4 I can tell you that we tend to spend way too much on items that are used for such a short time. I suggest looking for some items at resale shops or other places that sell used items. Borrow whatever you can from a friend. After buying an expensive swing I discovered that that baby didn’t even like the swing. Don’t go overboard on the clothes. There are so many cute outfits out there, but they outgrow them so fast. Ask friends and family to pool their money to buy you that special crib or stroller you want. buy combination items such as a crib that will convert to a twin bed, a playpen that you can use as a second or travel crib. But don’t go into debt to get these items. Your baby will never know the difference and you will enjoy your baby more if you aren’t worrying about how to pay for all the “extras” you thought you had to have.

  2. QUESTION:
Playpen safety for my 13month old?
My 13month son stays with his grandparents during the day on Fridays. He takes his nap in a play pen (same one used by my husband as a baby).

He is already 30lbs and 2ft 7inches tall and I’m concerned about him getting out of the play pen. He has started screaming at nap time there as well and I’m wondering if he doesn’t like sleeping in it.

I’m also concerned safety. The room is filled with a lot of stuff and he could get into items if he got out.

Should I be concerned? If so, how should I address this with my inlaws (should they get a crib, clear out room, etc)

    Thanks!
They also only live 5 minutes away. Do you think it would be easier for them to maybe watch him at our place where everything is available? Then we don’t have to worry about baby proofing that room (which has a lot of stuff in it – junk and otherwise)

Yes, they do provide a huge favour for us but his safety is what concerns me most.

    • ANSWER:
The playpen probably doesn’t meet current safety standards, and even if it did the baby is probably too big.

If your baby is a climber then a crib isn’t going to last for very long either.

They really need a toddler bed, or a nap mat like daycares use and to baby proof the room, including bolting furniture like bookshelves and dressers to walls with anti-tip devices.

  3. QUESTION:
    Baby Expensesfor new parent?
I was just wondering a Canadian site that I could go on to look at baby items and their prices.

Also I was wondering if anybody could suggest maybe a good brand they used for each:

    Baby Food
    Bottles
    Formula
    Infant Cereal
Breast Pump and pads(one that is not as painful)
    Disposable diapers
    Diaper rash cream
    Waterproof matress cover
    Baby lotion/oil
    baby shampoo
    baby soap
    baby carrier
    swing
    bassinet
    crib
    car seat
    baby bathtub
    playpen
    stroller
    safety covers and locks
    latches for cabinets

Also if you could please maybe say what would be best for what time during the baby’s first year
    e.g.
    1-3 months
    4-6 months
    7-9 months
    10-12 months

    Thank you sooo much

    • ANSWER:
Baby Food – Heinz, Gerber, or Beech Nut. There are a lot of no name brands too.
      Bottles – Medela
      Formula – I didn’t use formula.
Infant Cereal -Nestle for earlier months (I found my kids digested it easier) and Heinz later on.
Breast Pump and pads(one that is not as painful) – Medela electric pump. It’s pricey, but it’ll change you’re life. As for pads, the best I found are silicone pads. They don’t just absorb the milk, they keep your breasts from leaking!
Disposable diapers – My kids had problems with Pampers, but Huggies were great for the first few months. When their skin got a little tougher, Superstore/Loblaws brand, Teddy’s Choice were perfect. They’ve recently changed their diapers, but they’re still good.
      Diaper rash cream – Penaten
Waterproof matress cover – Not sure.. ours was a gift.
      Baby lotion/oil -Johnson’s
      baby shampoo- Johnson’s
      baby soap – Johnson’s
baby carrier – I love the heart to heart sling.
swing – Mine’s Graco.. just make sure it’s not a wind up or you’ll go crazy.
      bassinet – Didn’t have one.
crib – Anything’s good. It’s worth looking at the ones that convert to beds.
car seat – We have Graco and Evenflo. Both are good.
baby bathtub – Anything. They only use them for a couple of months.
playpen – Ours is Cosco and it’s great.
stroller – This is better to go online and check out individual models from each company. We’ve had problems with wheels not staying on ours (Evenflo). The systems with the car seats that attach are fantastic!
safety covers and locks – Safety First
latches for cabinets – Safety First

I’m not entirely sure what you mean about what is best from each month, but if you get “What to Expect the First Year,” you’ll have all the information you will need! You can typically find books like this at second hand shops for REALLY cheap. Libraries have them too!

  4. QUESTION:
    Are baby playpens really useful?
My baby and I are moving house this week so we will be living among cardboard boxes for a while. (not too long I hope!)
I’m slightly worried about the mess and the safety hazards that moving houses brings . So a friend suggested me to buy a playpen for the baby while I’ll be putting things together.
My son is almost 12 months and very active. I’m not sure a playpen would keep a crawling/cruising toddler happy.

Have you used a playpen before? Are they any good for older babies?

    • ANSWER:
I have a playpen for my 10 month old son (not a travel cot with mesh sides but a playpen with bars) and he is always happy to play in his playpen. He uses the bars to pull himself to stand and then cruises around the edges of the playpen. I also attach links to the bars which he rattles to make noise and put a few toys in his playpen for him to play with.

I have used a travel cot (with mesh instead of bars) with my son before as a playpen but he hated it as he couldn’t pull himself to stand in it and also he couldn’t get a good view all round as 2 of the sides were solid fabric panels as opposed to see-through mesh panels.

So yes i would say playpens are useful, but the ones with bars are way better than the mesh ones. Also, some playpens like the one i have can be converted into room dividers, stair gates and fire guards. I have included a link to my playpen – http://www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_0_10751_-1__5915_10001_

  5. QUESTION:
What do I need for a baby?
okay, I may or may not be pregnant. Either way, that’s okay. I know I can get through it and be alright. But if I am, I’d like to be prepared so, so far I’ve composed a list of all the things I’d most likely need (with costs and everything) can anyone tell me if I’m missing anything?

Crib (with crib mattress, crib sheets, and crib mattress pad)
Stroller (which comes with a car carrier)
    Diaper bag
    High chair
    Changing table
    Changing pad
    Playpen
    Blankets
    Pacifiers
    Bibs
    Baby bath tub
    baby carrier
    baby swing
    safety gate
    Bottles
    baby monitor
    onsies
    pajamas
    baby shoes
    baby clothes
    baby socks
    baby soap/shampoo

I didn’t calculate food or formula (or the big one, DIAPERS) but other than those am I missing anything I need to calculate into my possible budget.

I’m only 17, but I already graduated high school and I’m in college right now, my boyfriend also lives 13 hours away (he would move up here and we plan on getting married if I am, we were already engaged but it’d be for a sooner date, by a year). Any advice, tips, if I am, how should my boyfriend and I tell my parents? Also, so far with everything but the food, diapers, and formula I’m looking at spending ,600 and I have 0 already and a job, so does anyone have anything to add my list? Or tips like should I get another job (I only work 14 hours a week, and two days a week.)

I know I sound like I’m in a heap of mess and should abort it or set it up for adoption but I can’t deal with the conciousness of doing either since it’d be my fault he/she is born. I just need to be prepared for it and get tested and see my cardiologist (since I have a pacemaker) which adds into the mess of the situation but I’m not too stressed as I am trying to be prepared. So I’m sorry for rambling, but am I missing anything on my list?

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
The main things I see you’re missing are a baby first aid kit (you shouldn’t use normal thermometers or nail clippers for them), and if you decide to breastfeed (which is cheaper and very good for you and the baby), you’ll probably want a glider style chair and a breastfeeding pillow.
If you’ve got money in savings and a budget, you can be even more frugal if the town you’re in has a local freecycle community, and by checking craigslist.org. Mom2Mom sales are also a great place to get baby clothes and toys (and a lot of those items look like new). Just make sure that anything you get 2nd hand meets current recommendations and doesn’t have any recalls on it.
      Good Luck!

  6. QUESTION:
manufacturers equipment for children, is it nessecary?
Manufacturers are creating more and more equipment for parents to buy for their children. This equipment includes such items as car safety seats (essential to safety), playpens, walkers (essentially unsafe), baby gyms, baby monitors. These items vary in terms of how useful they are and how necessary they are. Equipment manufacturers would have parents believe that all equipment is both necessary and useful. In at least 300 words discuss whether pieces of equipment fill a need for infants or a desire for parents.

  7. QUESTION:
Is it ok to keep a maltese puppy in this playpen? (please click on link)?
I have been seriously thinking about getting a maltese for quite some time and i was initially going to use baby gates but then i was told a crate or playpen is much more effective, i started thinking of keeping the pup in this http://cgi.ebay.com.au/PET-TENT-PLAYPEN-Dog-Cage-Soft-Crate-Kennel-D-140cm-L_W0QQitemZ350094233655QQihZ022QQcategoryZ164488QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem.
He would be left here while i am at work and i will put plenty of toys, food, water.. i will make sure i let it out as soon as i get back from work and spend alot of time with it etc i am also planning on opening up one of the zippers and inserting a crete to attach to the play pen so it can go there to do it’s business or i can keep pads.
I’ve researched alot and i do understand that it is cruel to leave it completely alone however, my mum will be in the house, but they will have to stay in this play pen while im at work for safety reasons etc.
The pup is maltese, will be 8 wks when i recieve it and will be vacc, microchipped and vet checked. Please, no harsh answers or judging, the reason why i ask is so i don’t put the pup in danger at all so i would appreciate any info thanks

    • ANSWER:
Use a crate, do your homework on them. Dogs think of them as dens and in their den is where they feel safe. Think like a dog, not a human when you make choices for them.

  8. QUESTION:
How do I deal with this? Sorry long question about child safety?
So I’m a stay at home mum to a 9 months old very good girl. Which is not the problem. Before my daughter was born we hired a house keeper to help with the cleaning and ironing. She’s staying with us full time.
She’s very good with the cleaning and I couldn’t be happier because having someone else to take care of the house gives me full time to concentrate on my daughter. Now this person in the past has been taking my baby’s clothes without asking (I always give her the ones Emily’s not using anymore myself) and this is been going on for a while until I had a serious word with her and she eventually stopped.
She doesn’t speak any italian (we live in italy) and very little english so I find hard to communicate. What I know though is that she’s a serious threatening to my baby’s health. She keeps putting random things into her playpen (50 cents coins, sharp or very small objects, antique dolls from my collection) and doesn’t matter how many times I tell her not to put anything in there I still find the most random objects in it. I always make sure I check but I know that one day either me or someone else will put her down distractedly and something bad will happen.Playpen should be a safe space for a baby. Also the other day I sat my daughter on her highchair to get her lunch ready. After And I swear I could tell her/shout for days and still get no result. Should I send her away? Because i really feel bad about it but what else can I do?

    • ANSWER:
In a nice way- YES you should send her away.

If you have told her multiple times about the safety of your child and she still isn’t understanding, then she needs to be gotten rid of. Your childs safety is the most important thing in this situation.

You said so yourself- “Shes a serious threatning to your babys health”…its time to get rid of her before she does something worse. Please, for the sake of your Daughter, fire her!

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Can someone with legal experience regarding the new Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act answer this?
I am a Work-At-Home-Mom. I make custom baby carriers and sell them. Each of my carriers is one-of-a-kind. I buy my fabric from nationally trusted retailers such as JoAnn Fabrics, etc. I do not buy loads of fabric since I make them on an order-by-order basis (so I can customize for my buyer). How is the CPSIA going to affect me in particular? I am not the one importing the fabric or thread. Shouldn’t my supplies be tested before I buy them? Also, even if they are tested, I usually only buy fabric remnants instead of whole reels. It would be ridiculous for me to ask for certificates for 1 yard of fabric. I feel like this whole thing is going to put me, and a whole bunch of others like me, out of business. How can I possibly afford to have each and every one of my baby carriers tested for lead?

    BACKGROUND INFO:
Congress passed a law in August 2008 called the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act (CPSIA). This law came about because of the numerous recalls of children’s toys in the past two years and specifically the issue of lead in the toys. While I applaud the attempt at making children’s products safer, the law as stands, will actually remove many of the products that we have turned to in place of those made in China.

As of February 10th, 2009, ALL children’s products sold in the United States will need to be certified to be lead free and many products will need additional testing. To be certified, the final product sold needs to have each component on it tested for lead. This sounds wonderful when you think of all of the “Made in China” children’s products that are out there and all of the children’s items that are mass produced (mostly imported). HOWEVER, think of the handcrafted items sold within the US. Think of any children’s item that is a ready made item that has been personalized with a child’s name (it would need to be retested because it is the final sold product that needs to be certified). Think of the children’s items that are sold at craft shows, garage sales, ebay, consignment shops and fundraisers. As of February 10th, it will be illegal to sell any children’s products without certification, no matter when it was produced. Collectible vintage toys and trains? A “banned substance”. You will not be able to donate items for charity because they are a “banned substance” since they are not certified. This applies not only to toys, but all products such as books, shoes, clothing, school supplies, sporting equipment, jewelry, etc. that are possibly intended for children 12 and under.

    • ANSWER:
Write to your congress person and your states senators. Ask them to sponsor a bill exempting domestic craft products from testing provided that the components are lead free.

Then contact everyone you know and know of involved in making and selling domestic craft products and ask them to do the same thing.

If enough people write enough members of congress corrective action will be taken.

      Hope this helps

#1:: The first technique to choose sex of baby is to know when you should have intercourse. You must have a plan in order to choose gender of baby. Once you can find the date, you should start having intercourse at the right timing to choose baby gender.

Well, how to conceive a baby boy? You should have intercourse between 12 to 24 hours before the ovulation. And for a girl, you should do it more often and at least 3 to 4 days before the start of ovulation. This technique is very effective and have been used by many couples to choose sex of baby.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
What are the best stair safety gates for a baby/toddler?

    • ANSWER:

  2. QUESTION:
    Best baby gates to buy?
Can you recommend which gates are the best for safety and also that are easy to use. Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
I have been though a few of them . The 1st was an evenflo gate (extertier wood, intier plastic ) just to block of a room although it was inexpensive it wasn’t a good buy becuase it got broken quicky , so stay away from those . On the main door to our house we have another even flow gate , it is an extension swinging gate , for high traffic , it works very well , even my little excape artist can’t figure it out , and it screws into both sides of the door it was about .00 at target and worth every penny . best of luck

  3. QUESTION:
What is the best baby gate for top of stairs?
I just bought the Safety 1st Perfect fit, it’s wall mounted on top of my stairs and I don’t trust it. Also every time you open it you have to readjust it loosing its one hand open feature. Please share your experience.
    Thank you!
@barfly: So I should teach my 9m old (and walking) not to fall down the stairs and yet make sure the cabinets are locked? Sorry, a gate is a must. Anybody with kids have any suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
I have Dreambaby gates and love them. They’re metal and come in black or white. I have the standard size at the top of the stairs, and the extra-tall ones blocking access to the bottom of the stairs in the hallway. It takes a while to mount them properly, but the instructions are good and they’re strudy once mounted. They also swing closed automatically in both directions, though the click in kind of loud so I usually close them gently by hand. I ordered them online. They were more expensive than many gates, but totally worth it. You can open the gate easily with one hand.

You need to measure the space exactly, then buy any extensions you may need. The bottom and top of the space may be slightly different widths if you have a baseboard, but the mounting cups can screw out to different lengths. The more they’re screwed out, the less secure it is (thus the importance of getting extensions, if needed, rather than screwing out the mounting cups to the maximum). I wouldn’t trust any gate enough to lean against it at the top of the stairs, but ours has held firm every time we’ve bumped into it by accident, and it’s steady when my 13 month old daughter tries to shake the bars.

  4. QUESTION:
What are essential/best baby items to have as a new parent? What’s junk? What’s invaluable? Hints? Tips?
(Sorry this is so long! Many thanks in advance to those who reply!)

We are at week 34 awaiting the arrival of our Babygirl. Gifts and hand-me-downs are starting to come in that we’re marking off the “need to get” list (per Babies R Us).

We still have lots we need to get, so I wanted to ask for your opinions. For all those moms and dads out there, I have attached, below, the Babies R Us “Parents Checklist.” What is necessary? What is not? What is invaluable? What did you get on a whim and are eternally grateful for having? What turned out to be nothing but junk? What brands are the best (i.e., I hear that Boudreaux’s “Butt Paste” is the best there is)?

I’m starting to scout out Craigslist and eBay for deals (who the heck knew breast pumps were unbelievably expensive??? At least I can get new, in box items from eBay and save a few if I watch like a hawk!). If any of you have insights that you would share, we would be very grateful. Thanks!

Easily clogged nozzles
stars-4-0.gif
Nice item and I like it. The nozzles do a good job of creating a fine mist with the occasional stream instead of mist. The mist is not as fine as I had hoped for, what ever it falls on WILL eventually be wet. Depending on the temperature of your water source, it may or not feel all much cooler while in use. Tip: Use a light colored hose, a dark hose will certainly spew forth hot water.

My reason for dropping one star on the rating is that the nozzles are very very very fine. They WILL clog, guaranteed. And sadly, there is not so much as a mesh filter/washer included.

My solution cost another , I bought a mesh cone filter at the Depot/Lowes with the gasket molded into it, and then loosely shoved a cotton ball into the hose opening before attaching to the mister. The mesh cone filter will catch the cotton ball, and together they will provide decent filtration.

Great Cool-down

We have attached the system inside our screenhouse which gets very hot during the heat of the day. When we turn the mister on, it brings the temperature down immediately.Orbit 20066 Portable 1/4-Inch Outdoor Mist Cooling System

I had trouble finding the mesh cone filter, which I thought odd, as every sprinkler on the shelf came with one. I finally had to buy a two pack designed for pressure washers, along with various sizes of useless (to me) O-rings. Maybe you’ll have better luck finding one for cheaper. You DEFINITELY need one. After just a few hours of use, the cotton ball was really disgusting. If you are using a brand new hose, you may have less gunk, but you still NEED the mesh filter/washer, the replacement nozzles are almost as expensive as the whole kit.

I have had these years before. They last a long time if you take good care of them.
I just bought new ones. They are well worth the money. Everyone that has ever been around them,
loves them, including me. They drop the temperature in the area they spray but
watch out for a false sense of security from the sun. Your party guests will still
need waterproof sunblock. Ouch.

Perfect

I know it sounds silly but when I bought this sytem I didn’t realize it was portable…so neat. We take it to our neighbors house when we are around the patio and hook it to their umbrella, works perfect! The reason why we got it was because it was small and to go on our two year olds swing set, again works perfect! Couldn’t be happier with the product! A must have!

A great value and installation is very easy
stars-5-0.gif
The Orbit 20066 Portable 1/4-Inch Outdoor Mist Cooling System is an incredibly good bargain. It has about 20 feet total of flexible plastic hose. One end has a hose adapter that is compatible with any garden hose, and it comes with metal mister nozzles spaced every two feet in the last ten feet of the hose length. Additionally, it comes with five alligator clips for mounting the Portable Outdoor Mist Cooling System on a chain link fence or thin pipe or rod. Each clip comes with a plastic fastener that can loop around a chain-link fence and snap into place.

Installation is amazingly easy. String the length of mister hose where it will be mounted, snap the clips into place, put the mister hose into the alligator clips, then screw the mister nozzles in place. I bought four Orbit Mist Cooling Systems to cool four of our dugouts on our Fast Pitch Softball fields, and I had all four in place and tested in about an hour. Most of that hour was spent stringing out and connecting garden hose. All four worked like a charm.

What impressed me even more than the low cost or the easy installation was the robustness of the design. I believe this mister system will work with almost any water pressure. Our softball facility has one regular garden water spigot per softball field. To supply the misters in each dugout, I had to use one 50 foot garden hose connected to a Y-gate, followed by another 150 foot of garden hose. One mister hose was connected to the Y-gate, and one was connected at the end of the 150 foot length of hose. Both misters worked fine, even the distant mister, in spite of having half of the water going to the first mister and losing water pressure over 200 feet of hose.

If looking for an outdoor cooling system, it is hard to imagine a better value than this product.

Good Value

Being called basic, I was suprised to find how well it works. My climate in Northeast Missouri is extremely humid, and figured mist cooling would not work as well as in AZ or other arid area. I was wrong. It turns a warm breeze into a cool one. I hang it on a portable canopy with a cooler full of cold ones and enjoy the afternoon outside at 90 degrees instead of in the AC

Baby Walker Reviews

Author: Roberto Sedycias

Baby walkers have been around for many decades, and many consumers might remember using them ask kids. Now as parents and caregivers, it is their time to hunt and shop for baby walkers. These items are fantastic for promoting early walking muscles to develop. They also give babies the opportunities to explore their environment and get used to the motion of walking. There are some great ones to view that high light some of the pros and cons associated with each model.

Graco mobile entertainer is a product that is easy to assemble making it handy for parents. It is able to hold baby’s attentions pretty well and keep them busy for as long as they are in there! It is a stable item, however it is tricky to store and big to move around. This walker is ideal for early walkers.

Chicco little driver walker- baby sketching is a nice new model to chose. It features an easy to clean material with great support for babies of all ages. It is very lightweight which makes it easy for parent and child. With a simple assembly feature, it makes it perfect for anyone who just wants to set it up and go. This walker has some animal sounds that create a soothing experience for baby as they motion around.

Chicco DJ baby walker is a walker that had many bad reviews. Many people claimed that it was hard to clean which meant that it added frustration to the routine of the day, it is also heavy to move around, that is a problem for any parent who needs to carry it from place to place and for the baby to even move it around. Some parents found that this walker was hard to assemble and not as entertaining for their babies as other models were.

The Chicco Sea dreams walker seemed to have nice reviews. It contains music and rhythm features, padded seats that are washable for everyone’s convenience. It also folds flat so that it can be stored easily and taken in the car for quick mobile transportation. There are three heights to pick from because not every baby is the same size and it has brake pads for safety. The seat has a liner that comes out for cleaning.

    • ANSWER:

  2. QUESTION:
Does anyone know any nice baby safety gates?
i’m looking to find a nice looking safety gates for the stairs. My home is very modern and I would like it too fit in.
    thanks.

    • ANSWER:
Try looking at this website www.firststepahead.com they have a lot of gates, ans a catalog you can have delivered to your house..they’re a great company!!

  3. QUESTION:
top stair safety gates? where to buy a gate for the stairs?
Hello, we need to buy gates for our stairs. We have a 15 months old baby, and she is in every place, I’m scary that she can fall on the stairs on our new house.
I want a gate screwed into the wall but we don’t know where to find one like that.
Please any help would be appreciate.

    Thanks.

    • ANSWER:
The one I had was bought at walmart I think. It was a swing gate and very hard for kids to open it. Kinda hard for me actually lol but hey it worked. I’m not sure if that’s where my parents bought it so I’ll ask them tomorrow and email ya.
The one I had was made of thick plastic so you didn’t have to worry about it breaking.

  4. QUESTION:
What do you do when your baby can climb over safety gates?
Today I watched as my 11 mth daughter climb up the safety gate. She was able to get her upper torso over the top and would have toppled over it if I hadn’t been there to stop her. Now that she can get scale this how do I protect her form the stairs?

    • ANSWER:
get a higher gate or get another gate and stack them, just make sure the upper gate is sucure. thats what i used to do with my neices, and i treat them like my own. or u can always put it on the first stair up so it has a higher elevation and the baby has no way to climb it

  5. QUESTION:
Please help! Am I being unreasonable about baby safety?
Hi, im 22 and i first time mum to be living in Germany, and my question is: do you think its unreasonable to disallow your newborn child into a house that is not baby safe?

My husbands parents are kind of expecting to be able to have the baby for afternoons in their own house (rather then coming down to our granny flat down stairs to see the baby). However at the present point i am really concerned about the lack of general health and safety in their house, its a hayfever haven! There are hundreds of bottles of chemicals just lying around the place, even in areas where they prepare food. Not to mention the dangerous objects laying around the baby could get hold of, the dirty cat food bowls that sit around for weeks before being washed, the cartons of fresh milk that sit out all day in the warm, the cat hair that is never vacuumed from the sofa, dust sits everywhere in the lounge room; my hands burn just from touching their laundry or bathroom from the amount of chemicals used in them. And their cooking standards (ie not mixing raw meats ETC.) still shock me!

Don’t get me wrong, im no way an uptight, ritualistic, clean freak, and i realize that people from different countries do things different (I’m originally from Australia), BUT i do expect a little bit cleanliness around the house and chemicals (if one must use them) at least put away in a safe place if there is a baby around.

And I dont want to stop my husbands parents from having the baby, but the health and safety of the house makes me really anxious, and would rather not unnecessarily expose the baby to chemicals.

I was a nanny for quite a while before i was pregnant so im not completely naive as his parents like to think i am, but im really afraid to say something. Maybe im over reacting completely…? Either way none of the houses i worked in as a nanny, or my mother own house ever operated like this one. Should i say something?

Any opinions on this would be really appreciated. Many thanks and im sorry this got so long! :o )

    • ANSWER:
Momma knows best. That saying exists for a reason. From what you described I wouldn’t let a child of any age over there. It doesn’t sound safe.
Maybe just tell them you’d like for them to come visit you and your child but also be upfront as to why you aren’t comfortable in their home. A simple “we just don’t feel comfortable having the baby there because of allergies and so many chemicals being exposed and around.” If all else fails, push it off on the doctor and say that the doctor said that the baby needs to stay in their own environment due to allergies. Who is going to argue with you if you tell them “the doctor said”.

If confronting it head on isn’t something you feel you can handle then offer to come over WITHOUT the baby and help them kid proof their home and explain that you aren’t comfortable with your child being in a home that isn’t child proofed for safety issues that they probably don’t realize with a young baby/child and could you come to help them child proof.

  6. QUESTION:
At what age…? Baby safety questions – Help!?
Do you quit letting your child use the pacifier?

Do you switch to a toddler bed?
From a toddler bed to a traditional bed?

Do you allow your child a pillow?

    Do you quit covering outlets?

Do you quit using baby monitors when they are asleep?

Do you quit using baby gates around stairs?

I’m curious as to what your family has done – or what the experts say.
    Thanks!
Do you quit letting your child use the pacifier?
My oldest quit at 18 months – but he was an easy child (and I was pregnant w/brother and didn’t want any confusion over what was a baby item and what wasn’t) – My youngest is 2 and still has it at nap/night, but never any other time. I’d like to break him of it, but it is hard (both boys sleep in the same room – space issue)

Do you switch to a toddler bed?
Oldest @ 2.5 so baby brother could have the crib. Youngest, at around 20 months – was ready…

From a toddler bed to a traditional bed?
    When we have the finances/space…

Do you allow your child a pillow?
When they start to sleep in a toddler bed!

    Do you quit covering outlets?
We still have ours covered. Our oldest is 4, and still attempts to mess with them occasionally…

Do you quit using baby monitors when they are asleep?
We still use them – hubby is dependent…

Do you quit using baby gates around stairs?
We still use it (ages 4 & 2)…
Thanks to everybody who answered. I wanted to get peoples opinions on when some of these safety measures aren’t needed anymore.

I do strongly agree that the BIGGEST factors in determining whether a particular safety feature is needed or not is family situations and child’s personalities. Because there is no right/wrong answer on this – I am going to have a tough time picking best!

    Once again, thank you :-)

    • ANSWER:
Pacifier ends at age 1 for my daughter-Its a pet peeve of mine seeing toddlers running around with pacis.

My Crib’s safety suggestions suggest switching from the Crib to the Toddler bed at 15 months. Then at 50 lbs it suggests switching it to the regular bed.

A baby under the age of 1 for sure does not need a pillow-I would say when switching the Crib to a Toddler bed, then add a pillow.

Baby monitors aren’t really needed unless you are planning on being on the opposite side of the house a lot.

  7. QUESTION:
Baby Safety gate for against banister?
I am looking for a GOOD! safety gate that I can use for my stairs, I have a banister so it would have to go against that, I would prefer to have one that DOESNT ruin the banister nd wall, but I want to make sure that if my son pushes against it, it wont fall over.
It needs to be able to open because I cant climb over top of it

    thank you so much!!

    • ANSWER:
At the top of stairs, a pressure-closed gate is not adequate. It will eventually given way, leading to a big tumble down the stairs. There are gates with “gate door” in them, with a handle to lift while pushing a release button. If your stairway is not near standard size, (ours is 23″, no gate fits), there is a gate which is kind of like a window shade turned sideways, with a latch to keep it in place. Pricey, but it did work well.

  8. QUESTION:
I have 2 steps at the bottom of my stairs without a bannister, what can i do about a safety gate for my baby?

    • ANSWER:
as long as you got a safety gate for rest. i wouldnt worry about two steps, baby can fall and get bruised but baby will soon learn that hurts, and wont be doing it to often,

How to Settle a Colicky Crying Baby

Author: C.L. Hendricks

To know how to settle a colicky crying baby, one must first understand that there is a real reason for the baby crying.  According to the American Heritage Dictionary Online colic is:  Severe abdominal pain caused by spasm, obstruction, or distention of any of the hollow viscera, such as the intestines; or a condition of unknown cause seen in infants less than three months old, marked by periods of inconsolable crying lasting for hours at a time for at least three weeks.

It’s the second type of colic that can be a trial for parents of newborns. There is nothing more frustrating than to have your baby crying continually. Not only does your baby’s distress tear at your heart, but it can be mentally and physically draining.

We asked a group of parents who had experienced a colicky crying baby. Here, sometimes in their own words, they share the various methods of settling a crying baby.

Remain Calm

a€œOne of the most important things and often the most difficult is for the parent or caregiver to try to stay calm, as the baby can feed off of the tension or negative vibes from the parent. If it gets to be too much, see if you can take a break (even a few minutes can help you refocus).a€

White Noise

Many parents have found that soft background sound seemed to have the most effect; not only does it soothe the baby, but it also helps calm the parents. Often soft soothing music combined with the movement of a rocker or baby swing worked perfectly to settle a colicky crying baby.

Some parents discovered that running the vacuum cleaner was the perfect noise to quiet their crying baby. Another woman discovered that if she would place her baby in a baby seat and then set it on top of the clothes dryer. Then keeping the heat off, she would turn on the dryer. The combination of sound and vibration worked every time.

Keep Moving

a€œBabies can detect up/down, left/right and forward/back and are comforted when some combination of two of these movements. Rocking the baby in your arms while cradling him/her and going up and down on your toes will activate all three. This seems to soothe them, but be prepared to be doing this for a long time!a€

Another mother found that it helps to sit on one of those exercise balls and gently bounce up and down, especially when the baby is naked and has skin-to-skin contact with you. Other parents swear by the rocking chair, a drive in a car, the baby swing or being pushed in the stroller.

Holding or Swaddling

Swaddling is done by wrapping a small blanket firmly, but not too tightly, around the body, this seems to comfort the baby.  Another type of swaddling is accomplished by holding the baby close against your chest.

Massage/Warmth on the Tummy

Gently massaging the baby’s belly with a little almond oil in a clockwise motion has proven to sooth the baby. It also serves to relax the overstressed parents as well.

As one parent reported, a€œI have found from dealing with a colicky crying baby, that warmth on the tummy works wonders. I have done the warm rice pillows and a swing at the same time. He slept so wonderfully. It lasted until the swing stopped anyway.a€

Peppermint

One parent suggested: a€œGive them peppermint water. Put one peppermint candy in a baby bottle filled with water. Then let the baby drink it. This works very well.a€

Of course, before trying any of the suggestions above, one would want to make sure that the baby’s basic needs of a dry diaper and a full tummy have been taken care of.  If those don’t settle a colicky crying baby, then try one, or all, of the suggestions above.  Just remember you must be calm first. If it’s been going on too long, get someone to watch the baby and get away for an hour or two. Not only will the break help you, but it will help the baby to have a relaxed parent.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
How wide apart can stair banisters be and be safe for a baby?
What width would be safe (i.e. baby couldn’t stick their head through and get stuck) to have stair banisters apart for a crawling baby? They are currently 10cm apart in width along the corridor at the top of the stairs. Does anyone know if this is safe?

    • ANSWER:
10cm is the Building Regulation maximum spacing between the ‘faces’ of the banisters.

If you are really worried about baby, screw some solid boards on the inside of your banisters, along the stairs and landing, till he grows bigger.

  2. QUESTION:
Do any baby gates exist for stair cases where the banisters are not aligned?
I am unsure if this makes sense, but basically the bottom two wooden banisters of our staircase are not aligned – so we cannot use a normal baby gate, as they are usually created only for banisters that are parallel to one another. Has anyone encountered this problem? Any brands out there offering a solution?

    • ANSWER:
You can get a custom baby gate that has several parts to extend further or at different angles. These are available on website or some children’s furniture stores. I’m sending a link of baby gates and on there are two:

  3. QUESTION:
24 weeks pregnant and i fell down stair. Is Baby alright?
I just fell down a flight of stairs. I hit every step extremely hard with my butt and my back is in alot of pain, however, i’m concerned about the baby. I’m trying to eat something to get baby to move. Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Was baby alright?

    • ANSWER:
The baby is most likely fine. A lot of first-time mothers get scared when they fall. The baby is surrounded by both you and amniotic fluid, that’s a lot of protection. If you’re really worried though, there’s never anything wrong with seeing your obstetrician.

This excerpt came from Beyond Fertility, “The truth is many pregnant women fall and go on to delivery full-term healthy babies. A baby is very cushioned by the amniotic fluid within the uterus. It would take a very hard blow to the lower abdomen to cause the bag of waters to bust. I even personally know a woman who fell down a flight of steps at seven months pregnant and she and the baby were unharmed, except for a few bruises on the mom’s arms and legs. The mother did go immediately to her physician to be checked out.”

  4. QUESTION:
Baby gate or something for a stair case with a rail on one side? ?
I have a 15 month old who I am constantly keeping away from the stairs! ;) I would love to be able to but a gate up, but with my staircase, there is a wall on one side, and the spokes of the rail on the other, so the gate I have won’t adhere to the other side. What can I use to keep him off the stairs? Any suggestions. . . ? Thanks in advance :)
It will be for the bottom of the stairs.
    And wooden rails

    • ANSWER:
Just a couple questions before I make a suggestion. Are you looking to gate the bottom or the top of the stairs and is your railing metal or wood?

Here’s a pretty good gate that has an installation kit for use with a banister: http://www.kidsmartliving.com/newrolkidgua.html
      banister installation kit: http://www.kidsmartliving.com/kidguarsafga1.html

Or here’s a baby gate installation kit for spindles that allows you to use virtually any gate against a stairway railing: http://www.kidsmartliving.com/negainkitfor.html

  5. QUESTION:
    Baby gate and stair railing?
I need to get a baby gate for our stair case. The problem is, the only ones I can find are made to fit in doorways or they will attach to one railing and the other side is meant to be put against a wall. I need to find a gate that attaches to the rails on a stair case. Anyone else have this problem? Any suggestions would be great.
I thought about just buying a regular gate and attaching it with zip ties, but then realized that if I did that, we wouldn’t be able to get downstairs, lol!!

    • ANSWER:
I know it sounds crazy, but try a dog gate. Most are made for areas like that, and open and close to making it better than jumping over.
You can also try flex-gate,or kid Co…are just a few.Good luck.
I actually had to call and order extension parts to fit my stair well since it is much larger than the normal fitting.

  6. QUESTION:
What are the best stair safety gates for a baby/toddler?

    • ANSWER:

  7. QUESTION:
    Stair gates & baby gates?
I am in the middle of moving house this week, going from a ranch style to a two-story home and I am on the hunt for baby gates. I am having trouble finding baby gates wide enough and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or recommendations on gates that they like and what gates I should try to avoid.

I need one stair gate for the top of the stairs that needs to fit 41″ wide, I want one the opens easily with a door or something. I also need an extra wide gate dividing the family room from the kitchen, which is 101.5″ wide and the third gate needs to fit a 53″ space.

This move is proving to be quit costly so I don’t have 0 to throw down on a super gate with a superdooper extension (especially seeing as I need three of them), I am trying to stay within a reasonable budget. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  8. QUESTION:
    Stairs w/ a baby and a stair-savy kiddo…?
Any thoughts on how to handle keeping stairs safe for a baby while also NOT locking an older child out (or in) the upstairs where all their stuff is? She’s old enough to handle stairs just fine, but not old enough to manage the child-proof latches on gates…
    Thoughts?
(Putting the kid stuff downstairs isn’t an option as there is not room! The bedrooms & play rooms are all upstairs…)

    • ANSWER:
Here is an idea. If your older one cant open the gate herself …DO IT FOR HER

My 16 month old son learned long ago how to undo the gate on the stairs and goes up and down them just fine (standing up) so we have to watch him closely(but the gate is always in place). I also have a SD who seems to think shes a baby and acts like she cant undo the gate(shes 7) so I have to undo it for her. Rule is do not go up and down the stairs if your going up stairs FINE but dont make a game out of it ..UP OR DOWN

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Can you use a jogging stroller for a newborn infant?
Or are they recommended for babies a little older? Someone gave me a Safety 1St.jogging stroller and it doesn’t seem to have much support. It wasn’t given to me for jogging, because I don’t jog. A friend of mine bought it after adopting a baby and they didn’t like it because the wheels don’t swivel. I find it bulky and cumbersome.
Anyone else experience with this gear?? Thanks

    • ANSWER:
      Here is what I found;

“If you are going to be running with a newborn, ensure your stroller comes with a head and neck support. If it does not, you will need to purchase one. They are the same types that are used for newborns in car seats. It is recommended by many that children under 12 months old do not ride in jogging strollers at all due to the possible rough ride. If you choose to take your newborn, take care to ensure his ride is as good as yours. Stay on the smooth pavement, recline the seat as far back as it will go and ensure the harness is properly fitting and locked.”

  2. QUESTION:
What items did you need to buy for your 2nd baby?
I’m pregnant with my second child and my nesting phase is in full swing. My husband insists we don’t need a thing since both are boys and the new baby will probably be able to wear most of his brother’s clothes. We’ll need some seasonal items like a snowsuit (first born in early September, this one due in late December). I know we need a new crib mattress (1st will be using his in his toddler bed) and probably a double stroller but is there anything else you found you needed for your second child? The boys will be just over 2 years apart so I don’t think I need to worry about safety recalls on any old gear.

    • ANSWER:
      Right there with you girl!

I mostly had to buy small stuff. I had a shower but only got a few things which included a boppy, bouncy seat, diaper bag, and some toiletries. Last night I bought bottles, changing pad cover, another crib sheet and a good thermometer.

I had all the big stuff, like crib, bassinett, playpen, and high chair. I just didn’t have some essentials. My nesting syndrome is bad. I am 32 weeks. I only have a few more things to get, like a head support for thecar seatt and a mirror for the car.

      Good luck!

  3. QUESTION:
    Small SUV or Family Sedan?
We’ll be in the market for a new car later this year/early next year. We have a 99 Camry just over 110K (00 resale???). We’ll be trying to start a family next year, so we’ll need something to tote baby & gear.

We’re deciding among many models but the front runners are: Mits. Outlander, Honda CRV, Accord, Toyota Rav4, new Camry, or Subaru Forester (not sure about trims on any model yet).

We’ve done research on Cons Rpts and now we’re looking for opinions from ppl who have owned, researched and/or test driven these cars. Important to us: gas mileage (live in So. Cal), best cash price, reliability, safety, owner satisfaction, replacement parts costs, room/ease for family (getting baby in and out of car seat), warranty, and comfort (I’m 5’1″, he’s 6’1″). Looks, luxury, & bells & whistles not that impt. Loans/Lease deals not important at all.

We don’t want to test drive 6 cars, so if you can help us narrow the field, it’d be much appreciated.

    • ANSWER:
I own a Honda CR-V, and it is a wonderful vehicle, not a scam as others have stated. I have a Great Dane and need the room, and live in rural Wisconsin so I need the AWD and ground clearance. It looks like for your needs a Camry or Accord would be great, unless you plan on using it for camping or hauling dogs to the dog park, etc. You have to think long term on these things. I have a big dog and am a triathlete so I needed a larger vehicle to fit my life into. Honda and Toyota are the way to go right now for gas mileage, reliability and overall satisfaction. I owned a Toyota for many years with only a small transmission problem later in it’s mileage. Subaru has a lot of catching up to do to be considered a contender in the auto world, and Mazda nearly went bankrupt a few years ago. Mitsubishi has great engines but if you look at the numbers for safety, not as good. If you only plan on a couple babies in the near future, here is how I would rate the vehicles from best to worst for YOU.
      1. Honda Accord
      2. Toyota Camry (very close second, trans. problems in some)
      3. Honda CR-V
      4. Toyota Rav4
      5. Mitsubishi Outlander
      6. Subaru Forester
      Good luck!

  4. QUESTION:
    Should we get compensated?
I rent from a very big rental corporation, Canada wide, mainly known as Boardwalk. Can I say that?? Anyways over 40 townhouse units were flooded with sewage, from a city sewer line break! Water was turned off and we were all told the problem would be fixed asap. NOT!!

Tuesday the incident happened, we were sent letters stating our basements were full of raw sewage, not to go near the water. Then all water sources were shut off to the units! After the third day emergency water tanks were brought in, again we were told it would be up to 48 hours till things were fine again. Then the Friday, porta potties were brought in with hand washing units?? and 36 bottles of water were given to all 40 town houses.

Then we received a letter stating that we the people had to physically move and empty our basements for cleaning crews to go in. No cleaning gear, no safety suits, we all had to go in and get sewer soaked items out of our basements.

Saturday and Sunday there were no crews, we ran out of water, we had to phone the city for more water. Monday came and finally our basements were cleaned but by a mickey mouse cleaning crew!! probably the cheapest crew in the field. The crews they did send in a week later wore head to toe safety gear; while the tenants had no protection.

Boardwalk says they are not responsible that we should have had tenant insurance. The majority of families did not have insurance. Most families had babies and children, for days of hauling water and using outhouses. The City says its not their fault! its Boardwalks fault, Boardwalk says they owe us nothing in return. Boardwalk takes no responsibility especially when we pay ,295.00 a month for rent!! Not to mention the fact workers of Boardwalk were very ignorant and condescending when people would phone about concerns.

Does anyone have any ideas or possible solutions to this problem? Its not only me, its 39 other units including me who are looking for some kind of compensation and help with this huge poorly handled problem. Things have gotten fixed, and we all lost alot of things, but its just not good enough.

We did have media here 3 days in a row Global was nice enough to handle our story!! The public now knows, but whats going to happen now?? A petition is going around for lower rent? But? I don’t know if that will help???

    • ANSWER:
You probably have a case. You should contact an attorney, and have him file a lawsuit on behalf of all the tenants.

  5. QUESTION:
Dear Christians ,What can be the meaning of the most terrible dream I saw on April 24,2008,at about 3:30 A.M?
I have never experienced such a horrible and terrible dream so far in my life.In the dream I saw millions & millions of fat elphants ( young and old including the baby ones ) coming down from the North marching towards the South. They were in innumarable gangs occupying all areas of the plains destroying all agricultural forms and fields .There was no place unoccupied by the gang elephants .In order to escape from the elphants we some people were travelling in a 4 wheeler ( Jeep ).Since all roads were too fully occupied by the gang elephants, we suffered a lot, And in some places the driver applied the reverese gear and drove fast backward to escape from being caught by the elaphants . Since the van was useless ,we all began to run across the muddy corn fields where too was no safety for us.My wife was holding our eldest son and I was holding our 1 year old daughter . In great horror we were running here & there unsafe . It was dusk. We were afraid that we may hit at the elephants.
Within some time ,from the plains millions of the elephants climbed upon all mountains. Hence some poeple who wnated to run away to the mountains too could not do that .In the dream ,no building or any other construction guaranteed safety for humanity from the reach of the elephants .Night fell .The cry of the whole humanity was reverberating everywhere. The whole planet was thus engulfed with terror, horror ,misery and sorrow …!

When I got up from sleep ,with an atmost sad heart , I couldn’t understand what can be its meaning. After some time , the voice from my inner heart spoke to me that God the Creator of every thing is not at all satisfied with the ways how people enjoy licentious and immoral sex orgies .
I was clearely reminded of the Bible verses :
” …Then when you eat and are satisfied ,
be careful that you do not forget the LORD ,who brought you out of Egypt ,out of the land of slavery ”
    ( Bible : Deuteronomy 6:11 ).
“When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the LORD your God for the good land he has given you .

Be careful that you do not forget the LORD your God ,failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day …”
    ( Bible: Deuteronomy 8:10-11)

    ” When I fed them ,they were satisfied ;
when they were satisfied ,they became proud;then they forgot me.”
    ( Bible : Hosea 13:6 ).

    “…you are destroyed ,O Israel,
because you are against me ,
    against your helper…”
    ( Bible : Hosea 13:9 )

“I supplied all their needs, yet they committed adulery
and thronged to the houses of prostitutes.

They are well-fed ,lusty stallions ,each neighing for another man’s wife.
Should I not punish them for this ? ”
    declares the LORD .
    Should I not avenge myself
on such a nation as this ?

Go through her vineyards and ravage them, but do not destroy them completely.
    Strip off her branchess ,
for these people do not belong to the LORD.”
    ( Jeremiah 5:7b-10
” You rely on your sword ,you do detestable things ,and each of you defiles his neighbour’s wife.Should you then possess the land?”
    ( Bible :Ezekiel 33:26 )

    ” In you are those who dishonour their fathers’ bed;
in you are those who violate women during their period, when they are ceremonially unclean.

In you one man commits a detestable offence with his neighbour’s wife, another shamefully defiles his daughter-in-law,and another violates his sister, his own father’s daughter

    In you men accept bribes to shed blood ;
you take usury and excessive interest and make unjust gain from your neighbours by extortion. And you have forgotten me ,declares the Sovereign LORD.”
    ( Bible :Ezeliel 22:10- 12 )
When I dicussed the dream with my wife she told that it can be of a terrible famine which may threat the whole world like any thing.

During the evening ,as usual we (with our two children ) went up to the upper terrace of our house and prayed to God to first of all forgive us all our transgressions and iniquities towards the Lord’s Commandments. We prayed for the whole world too.

Dear Christians ,shall we all humble ourselves before our Lord,Redeemer and Helper atleast a bit today itself.

    May God save the world.Amen.
    [ a small spelling correction please :
Please note the nineth line from below there is word " threat ".Please read it as " threaten ". Thank you friends ]

Again ,whenever someone asks some very serious questions there are some people trying to just teas or humiliate the askers. What would the they lose if they don’t just answer ?Why should they try to humiliate the askers?

Our friend gordooo2 says,” Why did you post this here? if v want a sermon we will go to church!! I come on here to read jokes!!!.

I know well that I am not that much fool to send my questions to such wrong sections. When we speak of dreams it automatically goes to jokes and riddles.Perhapes I might have failed to notice it keenly .Is it a great mistake with me ? More over gordooo2 says that he would go to church if he wants some sermon .I don’t know what sermon does he hear in his church to fill him with proper maturity .I speak of a terrible thing (of course Biblical too ) ,but gordooo2 wants jokes
Again ,with pussycat : He too is such a type. Purely selfish people ,and that is why they always try to criticise others.
When we try to send some personal explanations ,O…they just hide behind curtains and just show their Profiles that they don’t receive E-mails.What nonsense these people are doing by purely hiding behind the curtains…?

I Do my duty only to the Humanity.
To be frank ,I am agaisnt Lie.
    I am against inequality .
    I am against oppressors .
I am against Corruptions and Exploitations.
I am against Immoralities which put to shame every human being.
If ‘A’ carries out an immoral activity towards B’s wife ,B is put to shame .Why can’t every one be a B .I am fighting for every one’s safety only.

In none of my questions I ask any unnecessary thing other than the present global problems . I am not at all such a mean person to be interested in mere jokes when the whole world is to face greater problems .I may be against bad people and not against the good .

    • ANSWER:
Is one of the elephants Horton. He hears even the littlest who.

Anyway. I can ask God. Obviously the elephants are a form of a threat to destroy our agriculture & economy.

And I have been aware of a lot of concerns about our economy.

But then the attack on the agriculture could be as simple as the enemy attacking our bees. As the bees need help. We need to learn what is hurting them. But the bees are hurt from the south west to the north west.

So? This would be an attack from the North. Not the bees dying then. So we have a date & time. And I think that we need to ask God for discernment. As long as this is a real dream & not a joke. God gives me answers to riddles like this sometimes later, regarding a yahoo question.

Or maybe it just appears to be a bigger problem than what it really is. And that is what your fear is. Something seems to be a huge problem you can’t solve. When it isn’t that big after all. Just guessing here. Maybe you are making sexual imorality bigger than what it really is.

The truth is that there are many sexual abuses to children going on that is getting uncovered. And elephants do represent a big problem.

  6. QUESTION:
    What decent Parent would???
Leave their young children in a car by themselves in a busy carpark at a busy store? I had only ever seen things like this on the news, until this past week, on Wednesday afternoon (was fairly warm and sunny) we pulled into carpark and could hear a car horn going crazy, looked around briefly nope couldn’t figure out who it was, until my step daughter (12) saw, 2 small children (all of the age of myabe 2yrs old 3 at the most) both running amok in this car, blasting the horn constantly playing with the gear shift and indicators , anything they could push they did. where was there mother – inside too busy gasbagging to other shoppers. Grrrr was not impressed.
Then yesterday afternoon it was really warm and sunny, and pulled into same carpark and my step daughter said “Mum some idiot has left a lil baby alone in their car”, went and looked and yep, there in a car seat was a lil one (maybe 4 months old) plus what looked to be a 1 -2 yr old both sitting in back of the car all windows up.
WHY? Why do parents do this? I just can’t understand how people can be so damn stupid,I would never leave any of my kids in the car, even if it’s hassle to me to drag all 4 around, I don’t care their health and safety come first. Doesn’t it just make you angry to see parents leave their kids in cars?
For the one calling me names ASSUMING I didn’t report it, you can take a flying jump, I DID REPORT IT! immediately.with store staff (have friends and family who work there) and called the police from their phone (forgot mine) so not only did the cops come but their number plates were written down by the staff at store so if they came back they knew to look and make sure no kids are left in the car.
Sorry Correction, there was no name calling ( my step daughters were just talking about name calling and I wrote that down instead lol)
PollyAnn, it makes you ANGRY that YOU ASSUMED I didn’t report it, where did I say that? If I didn’t report something like that it would make me just as bad as the idiot parents who do it.
and Amy- please you can’t be that knaive, 10 minutes in a car CAN and HAS killed young children (and pets) if it’s really hot out, cars heat up like pressure cookers in seconds.

    • ANSWER:
I was charged last year with breaking and entering, after I smashed a car window to get a couple of lethargic kids out.
It is the most disgusting thing to do, and there is no excuse for it. EVER. I don’t leave any of my 5 in the car, ever. I get them in and out like I do.

If I see kids in a car, I go into the nearby shop and ask loudly for the staff to call the police – *A child is dying in a locked car*
I have no shame at all. Makes me sick to my stomach. Then those who leave their dogs in the car, grrrrr.

  7. QUESTION:
Does Obama want to nationalize oil, tax gas, make the US dependent on foreign oil and weaker?
BP wanted a big deal with Libya, and Libya wanted their nonsick Lockerbie terrorist in exchange for a HUGE contract, so Obama helped them like BP helped him, massively, during his campaign. Many Americans were killed in the Lockerbie attack, and Obama said zero. Obama also gave Qadafi .5 million recently and he’s linked to Qadafi through Wright/Farrakhan who met with him in Tripoli pertaining to Islamic USAfrica and Qadafi called Obama muslim brother…plus Qadafi is linked to Odinga for whom Obama campaigned in Kenya (illegally).
Obama wanted fuel for his cap and tax, and to mock drill baby drill, and to dish out a hefty helping of punishment to southern tea party gumps, and to get China to buy more debt in exchange for it taking over the gulf seafood industry. China is already gearing up to meet the need. Obama also wants to raise taxes on gas and eventually nationalize the oil industry (into ruin, as Chavez did).
And BP, being one of Obama’s biggest donors, would not be harmed financially because American taxpayers would pay the insurance to cover the rig loss plus it sells the chemical used for clean up (never mind that hay works better and is practically free and nontoxic and adsorbs oil at a 1:200 ratio). Halliburton, which built and can we say—blew– the rig (every safety valve had to have been turned off simultaneously) would be rewarded with a 0million no bid contract directly from the Obama regime, and nobody would be the wiser since Obama sent in SWAT teams to prevent any other investigators.
This all keeps the US dependent on foreign oil and weaker, and ultimately Obama will seek to nationalize the oil industry.
The oil is going to swoop around to the East Coast and even go up the mouth of the Potomac.
Obama really stuck it to the tea party gulf gumps, must find it really amusing.
Obama received a total of ,051 from BP During his time in the Senate and while running for president, Obama received a total of ,051 from BP and is the top recipient of BP PAC and individual money over the past 20 years, according to financial disclosure records.

    • ANSWER:
I think you’ll find it was the right wing governments of Bush I and Thatcher that are at the heart of the Lockerbie miscarrage of justice, so perhaps not bring Obama into this one.

They guided the investigation away from the real culprits (Iranian funded terrorists) because they needed Iran’s support in the Gulf War. Iran and Islamic terrorists wanted vengance for the US Navy’s actions when it shot down an Iran Air airliner killing many Iranian civilllians (the US warship had illegally entered Iranian waters and placed itself in danger and took the horrendously wrong decision to shot down what it suspected to be a fighter jet).Libya was one of only a few nations that backed Iraq’s right to Kuwaiti land, and therefore the US decided it was best to blame Libya, rather than Iran for the Lockerbie bombing.

  8. QUESTION:
PlanB seems to be my only hope, or am I over thinking this?
well it’s that time again, where one person and another fall into a hole of decisions, I’ll give you a quick story plot…

Lady friend and I have a few drinks, get a lil’ intimate, slip a rubber, glove, get strapped, condom, w/e you’d like to call it, but before we do, I slip it in with out any safety, just have a little four-play fun. I’ve read a lot about ejaculation, and I keep doing what I’m doing, just being reckless, well last night, we tried these new Trojan condoms – Fire&Ice, but burnt the hell out of her…as it does quite a bit for myself, this was just a few hours ago, so listen up…we then decide that lets just do what we do, and see what happens, those exact words have been repeating themselves over in my head…I can’t afford a baby, I’m 20, going to college, barely even hanging on…we had sex, i pulled out a few seconds before even having the “bigbang” feeling, I urinated, so any left over sperm would flow out, and not come on the next pre ejaculation, so then we have more sex, no condom, but no finish that round. I’m a bit worried, I have these options, and I prefer, not ever trying this again. I’m going somewhere in life, but sometimes I make reckless choices and don’t take lead and say no, I want to start a new leaf, so help me decide.

    1. PlanB — taken after non protected sex,(before 72hrs to take affect) drops eggs, and mistral cycle flips. — ***** but does PlanB, make the women infertile? she hasn’t taken it in years, and it’s her only scare…Is PlanB bad!? for once and a while?

    2. Wait it out, it’s been 10 days since her last period, and she not ovulating yet, but you can get pregnant anytime…just more likely then…

    3. I can’t go thru with abortion, so I won’t even list it…I just think i should spend dollars on PlanB…and not risk everything. I want kids, but the time isnt now, I’m just turning gears in my mind and need advice, i was as honest as can be.appreciate your help.
    Pro & Cons of PlanB?

    • ANSWER:
Do the plan B. It’s the best and Cheapest way by far. Plus pregnancy is going to be way worse on her than the plan B pill. There are studies that show it hurst and not..

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Need websites for baby furniture safety?
I’m trying to see if the mattress and crib I’m hoping to buy are safe, etc. but I’m unsure what websites to look for. Does anyone know any good sites?

    • ANSWER:
go to the website of the company that makes it, they would have any recall info. also if it is sold at babies r us they always have a ton of reviews on all of their items that are really helpful.

baby furniture under australian safety standards?
where can i find information on baby furniture in Australia that has information including the tick of approval for the australian safety standard ??

    • ANSWER:
Any BabyCo store Or most baby shops. Possibly at your local GP’s office or any Hospital. I know when i was looking at carseats at BabyCo they gave me a pamphlet about Australian Safety Standards so Im positive about that one, and also the hospital where i have my routine prenatal check-ups gave me a lot of information about safety and things. Usually in the waiting room they have TONNES of pamphlets, im sure you would find something there.

  4. QUESTION:
Where can I find safety information on baby gear?
I am 22 weeks pregnant and have been searching for baby stuff–furniture, strollers, etc.–so we can make up a registry. Up to this point I’ve just been reading other people’s reviews of the items, but I keep reading reviews where the parent mentions that the item meets safety standards (no recalls, etc). Does anybody know where I can find the safety information? My husband and I don’t have much money so we’re buying less expensive items, and I want to make sure I’m not sacrificing safety in the name of my budget.

Any help would be greatly appreciated; I don’t even know where to start searching!

    • ANSWER:
I would go to the consumer website information because if you go to the product web site of course they are going to tell you that there product is the best

  5. QUESTION:
Do you think baby furniture from a resale shop is Ok?
Ok so I am on a really tight budget. And have a long way until my child is born. However I don’t have money for brand new baby furniture.
We are sharing a room with my boyfriend which is already crammed.

I’m talking swing, crib, bouncer, etc.
I have a travel system picked out already just for safety purposes.
Thanks guys you are helping a lot.
Especially with the matress I hadn’t thought about that.
And the car seat I am expecting to get at a baby shower if not that we will buy straight from the store!

    • ANSWER:
Well you could reuse some of the stuff from your oldest child, like crib, high chair and carseat- if you bought your carseat new for your child they’re goo for 5 yrs…

But to answer your question: The crib is fine-I personally like wooden colour cribs- or dark browns..

As for the carseat-you shouldnt get an infant carseat that’s not the same brand as your stroller-they wont fit.
As for the Safety First Stroller I dont like them. I think they’re OK, but they’re cheap and cheaply made. I would suggest getting a regular Graco stroller…

      http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2813887

      The high chair is OK… they’re all OK… it’s a matter of taste…

As for the paci-well the one you’re showing is the very common Nuk.. which is a very good brand so it’s up to you….

I particularly like the Nuby brand

      http://www.nuby.platformtwo.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=35&Itemid=52&lang=en

      because the shield is soft…
As for the sippy cups… I would go for the Nuby brand! They’re amazing! No valve, no leaks, just perfect!

      I think I’ve covered everything!

      Good Luck!

  8. QUESTION:
Is it safe to paint a babies crib?
Having a baby soon, started looking at baby furniture, not really in to the wood or metal frames which are black or white, thought about getting one with a little more color to it, but of course those cost a lot more, I’m wondering if it’s safe to buy a crib and paint it myself, I’m pretty good at painting things, I did a couple bike frames, but of course that’s completely different and the concern is about the babies safety, so is this a safe thing to do? If so what kind of paint would be best to use, thanks.

Teach Your Baby to Sleep Through the Night

Author: julie gardner

As a Mum, it’s pretty fair to say that your life will never be the same!

But night time doesn’t have to be a big upheaval. Once your baby can sleep through the night, and you can get uninterrupted sleep. You will be amazed at how much easier everything becomes.

If you are one of the lucky one’s whose partner takes it in turns with the night feeds… Well you should count your blessings now. My partner is a professional driver, and I didn’t want him tired while at work, dangerous driving wouldn’t keep his job!

Firstly you have to remember that all babies are different. If your neighbour is boasting that her baby slept through from the third week, unfortunately it doesn’t mean that your baby will be the same! My son slept through from 6 weeks, my daughter from 11 weeks. While you are getting up in the night to feed your baby, it may seem like an eternity that will never end, it will though!

Teach your baby the difference between day & night

It’s a good idea to get your baby into a routine as soon as possible. At first he doesn’t know the difference between day and night, so you need to teach him.

Establish a bedtime routine. Maybe a bath, put on pyjama’s, followed by a story and a last feed. Try putting your baby into his cot awake, and let him fall asleep by himself. This will help to stop problems in the future when baby wakes up in the night. He will then be able to settle himself instead of needing poor old tired mum to help him get back to sleep.

Baby’s night feed tips

Some babies will still need their night time feeds for longer than others. The idea is, that if your baby doesn’t need his nightly feed, to encourage him to sleep through instead.

  • Keep the lighting as low as possible when feeding your baby in the night. If you turn the light on full, to your baby this will look just like daylight.

  • Keep the night feed as un-stimulating as possible for baby. If you spend time cooing over him, he will think it’s a great playtime. Make the feed quiet and as quick as possible.
  • Try to avoid direct eye contact with your baby (I know, I know, easier said than done) All you want to do is look into his eyes and smile lovingly at him, even if it is 3am! Try not too, your baby loves nothing more than gazing at Mum, but he needs to know that now isn’t the time. If he doesn’t get stimulation he wants he will be more willing to go back to sleep.
  • Only change your baby’s nappy if he really needs it doing. There’s no better way of fully waking your baby than changing his nappy.

By the time your baby is 6 to 9 months he will be a lot less dependant on these night feeds. It could be more of a habit than hunger at this age. To determine if your baby does still need this night time feed, try offering some cooled boiled water instead. You may find that he loses interest and goes back to sleep.

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. QUESTION:
Fisher Price recalls 7 million trikes & tough trikes toddler because 10 children hurt.Is this excessive ?
In the article I read, it stated that 10 children had been hurt, 6 of whom required hospital treatment.Apparently , there is a protruding ignition key that could cause injury if a child sat on it or were to somehow fall on it.I have raised 2 children and have grandchildren so I am aware kids may not always use a toy as it is intended.I also know that it was also up to me to diligently supervise them while at play to try ensure they didn’t get hurt.

I just wondered why the toy companies do not have someone from the Consumer Product Safety Commission on staff to see if they could come up with a product design that is 100% child safe.I just think that 10 reports is not a very significant amount .Before anyone thinks I’m a child hater or something let me state that when my children were babies and toddlers the accepted walker at the time was a tubular steel folding frame with a plastic seat with snap in wheels , the high chair was raised on 4 legs with no supporting base braces and a small tray intended for eating in (not all day play area) and I regularly checked on my babies because we didn’t have baby monitors. We had an expanding door gate.My point is my children were never hurt by the lack of the current safety standards because I watched my kids. I’m not saying kids never got hurt in the past, maybe I was just lucky.I just don’t know if a product can be made that is 100% safe and nothing ,not even the Consumer Product Safety Commission can replace parental supervision. Anyone have any thoughts on this
Sorry for the thumbs down,I just don’t feel the need to.

    • ANSWER:
With the amount of products that have been recalled, between poor design, and lead paint, it seems like the trikes got thrown in with the rest of it. It is a bit excessive, but lead poisoning concerns me most, since I have several of the items on the list(still waiting for the e-mail detailing how to tell if they’re toxic or not), and my kids did use them to teeth. I recall a hot news story a year or 2 back in time where a toddler actually died because she had eaten some lead paint chips while playing on her front porch, after tricking her immigrant(legal) parents into signing forms that they couldn’t even read about lead toxicity.
I agree that no product can be 100% safe, but in the world we live today, with everyone so lawsuit happy, that Fisher Price is taking a better safe than sorry approach. Those 10 sets of parents probably raised hue and cry and threatened them with lawsuits and bad press had they not recalled them. It’s the same reason that every single plastic bag you come across in the US has a “do not allow babies or infants to play with this, or use it in their cribs” warning printed on it(because, ya know how some bags are safer than others…./end sarcasm). Common sense is a thing of the past, unfortunately, and I know I sound like an anti feminism type person(I’m a woman myself) when I say it, but with so many woman leaving their child(ren) in other’s care so they can work, a lot of good parenting skills have gone out the window.

  2. QUESTION:
Long story, Crazy neighbors. Please help!!?
Last year their daughter would give us dirty looks because I was pregnant and play her music very loud at all hours of the day, she was doing drugs. I would call the cops and it would stop. Then their dogs kept getting in our yard and running away through the hole in my fence. They expected us to fix both holes in the fence. I wouldn’t as it was not my problem, they then would put things in front of my gate so the dogs would stay in my backyard and not run away. I would move them and they’d yell and get pissy. One day their dog ran into my house and I told them to keep the dog off my property or I would call animal control. She then starts yelling at me and tells me my unborn baby is going to run away and that the state was going to take him. As a pregnant woman I naturally got really pissed, I knew her daughter had been pregnant so I told her that I was glad the state took the baby away from a drug user and I hoped they would never see it again. She was using in plain site before hand. She yells to me that her kid has a “mental illness”. When her dog finally runs away and doesn’t come back she leaves a note on my door blaming me that it ran away and that “Carma a bitch”. (She can’t spell) She called the cops saying it was in my backyard. Of course it wasn’t. Since then they have been harassing us non stop. She asked my husband If his dad was gone as in dead. He has cancer and she knew this. She keeps parking in front of my house which I can’t do anything about, but when my guests park in front of her house she comes over and bangs on my door till I answer and tells me to move it. If I don’t then she keeps banging on my door. I have not been nice in any of these circumstances, I honestly don’t help the situation but the things she says..she’s lucky I don’t do worse. I do not start things when I see her, I ignore her until she starts threatening me or saying things that would make you want to jump her. I never go on to her property and verbally abuse or threaten her in any way, she has done this numerous times. Plus I think the daughter and her male friend are dealing drugs and I am scared for my sons safety. The HOA will not deal with them, they said they are getting a break because they are going through “hard times”. They are breaking so many of the rules that are enforced on everyone but them. What the hell can I do? The HOA president won’t do anything and I’m pretty sure I don’t have enough evidence for the police. Please help…
I have already and my son and I think it’s way to late to try and make peace. They want a war.
