Babysitter rates depend on various factors. If you hire a teenage babysitter from the neighborhood, you can expect to pay lesser than the amount you pay when you hire a babysitter from an agency. Here are the reasons why:

1.    Experience and Number of Years in Service – Babysitters need experience to know how to handle kids with differing personalities. First-hand experiences also give you practical knowledge on kid psychology that teenage local babysitters don’t normally find in books. Needless to say, experience is a valuable teacher. The longer a person has been babysitting, the more skilled and the more knowledgeable she is expected to be in reacting to different situations or emergencies that may happen while you are out.

Experience, therefore, is one major factor when determining babysitter rates. Of course, there’s no guarantee or proof of experience. After all, neighborhood babysitters don’t get certificates or letters of recommendation from families they have worked in. The best way to get baby sitters with long years of experiences is to get them from babysitting agencies. But then again, naturally, they would have higher rates.

2.    Babysitter Training – Babysitters need not have a college degree for babysitting in order to get hired. It is, however, important that you hire somebody who has even just a minimal amount of knowledge or training on first-aid and on emergencies that may occur anytime. Remember that you’re entrusting your child and your home and property to the babysitter. It is only imperative, then, that she has the presence of mind and that more or less, she knows what to do when there is emergency.

Babysitter rates are based on other more practical factors, too, such as the number of hours you require her to be in your home, the scope of her duties and responsibilities.
