How to Care your New Born Baby
Author: bruce bud
Few newborns look picture perfect at birth. They have many variations in normal appearance – from color of the skin to its texture to the shape of the head. Some of these differences are just temporary, part of the physical adjustments a baby goes through. Mentally, mostly all babies are awake and alert during the first few hours after birth.
A newborn’s body is extremely vulnerable to injury. Soft flesh instead of muscles and cartilages instead of bones is what constitute a baby’s body. A newborn requires body care due to these simple reasons. Certain parts of a newborn’s body require extra care than others. These are mentioned below:
Baby’s Skull
Baby’s skull does not get fully formed till a long time. Complete formation time varies from child to child. Due to this, cradle cap is a harmless condition that often occurs in newborns. Severity levels also differ from mild; where scalp may turn flaky and produce dandruff, to severe; where scalp turns yellowish and scaly leading to crusty patches.
Easiest way to overcome this is to rub in mild vegetable oil or olive oil into a baby’s scalp at least twice a week. Oil must be allowed to stay for about 15 minutes. Use a soft comb to remove the flaky skin and a mild shampoo to keep the scalp clean.
Baby’s Fingernails
A baby’s fingernails can be his own enemy. Soft in appearance and definitely softer than your fingernails, these can be sharp nevertheless. If allowed to grow unchecked, these can be harmful for the baby. An active baby while flailing his arms can easily scratch his face or other parts of body.
A new mother’s apprehensions are quite understandable, but trimming your baby’s fingernails is not going to rip them off from the roots. A baby’s fingernails are soft and can be trimmed by biting also. If you find the idea of “biting to trim” a bit too much to handle, you can invest in baby clippers that are meant to provide extra care while trimming.
Baby’s Genitalia
The vaginal area of a baby girl needs to be wiped with a moist clean cloth during diapering and bathing, taking care to wipe from front to back to avoid transferring bacteria from the anus to the vagina. Genital area of a newborn baby boy also requires frequent cleaning to avoid diaper rashes.

QUESTION:
My baby pulled over a pitcher of hot water on himself. What should I do?
I had boiled some water for his bottles. He is 10 months old and still drinks formula…so I still boil his water for safety. Anyway, I had boiled the water and put it away in the refrigerator. My @$$hole husband came into the kitchen and was arguing about dinner. He opened the refrigerator and was looking for something to eat. I came over to to where he was an threw out some leftovers. While he was standing there arguing about dinner and I was getting a plate out the baby crawled into the kitchen and grabbed the handle to the water pitcher. The water had been in the fridge for about 5 minutes and when it wasted on him he screamed. I scooped him up and was kicking my foot at the same time because the water had wasted on me, too.I thought all was well after we dried him off. There were no scaldings or burn marks. So I thought everything was cool. I waited a little bit longer (like 45 minutes) before taking off the diaper (because he was afraid and was holding on to me). Right down front was a small amount of swelling and a couple of blisters.
He has been up playing and is generally in a good mood. He doesn’t act as if he is in pain or anything. I have been watching him closely to ensure he is okay. But I need to know what to do. Can I treat this at home or should I go over to the emergency room even though this happened a couple of hours ago?
Oh my husband is nonchalant and acting as if he doesn’t care. HE is trying to make it like it is all my fault. This is not a time to point fingers…it is BOTH of our faults because we were too busy arguing to even notice when he crawled between us.

ANSWER:
if he seems to be okay..and not in pain i would suggest just watching it for a while and see if it gets any worse. i would also suggest maybe just apply a cool wash cloth to the area and maybe a little cream.

ANSWER:
They have to do this. They are documenting what happened because a 10 month old can’t tell them. They would be bad doctors if they didn’t. I know it’s easy to become defensive about this. My daughter got bumps on her bottom and they thought they were warts. They recorded this info (they weren’t warts in the end…they went away with diaper cream.) I was upset at first, when babies have warts in that region it’s a sign of sexual abuse. But at the same time, I’m glad there are people out there looking out for those who can’t defend themselves. CPS might be contacted, but I doubt there will be an investigation of any kind. CPS gets many reports (I’m a teacher and I’m obligated to report anything my kids say.) Now if something else happenes they may come interview you and ask about what happened. CPS isn’t wanting to take kids out of homes, just those that are truely hurting their kids. They know accidents happen. They know the doctors are obligated to report. My little cousin had her hand on the ironing board when her grandma was ironing. The got a pretty bad burn and they took her to the ER. They also took pictures but wrote down what Grandma had said. There wasn’t an investigation.
